yeah

Watch more anime faggot

I remember watching it in like 1988 or 89.. was maybe 11 or 12 years old. I wish there were more animuvies like it

>Akira is the pinnacle of animated story telling in all aspects
Youre pleb tier judgement makes me vomit

Yeah, plenty of anime already has. Don't get me wrong, Akira was pretty good though.

what's better then?

This is usually consistently voted no. 1 animated movie in Japanese polls. Contrarians bore me.

Provide recent sources

Does it matter what I reply with here since im already taking the bait?

I'm sure there's a lot that tops it, but it was good.
Always liked the art style of anime back in the 80's/90's

No thanks, I'm good.

excellent taste desu my friend

Most Ghibli, Oshii and Kon films. Also Mind Game.

>Japanese polls
>one American's list from an American magazine

He said Jap polls, not some autistic shit written by someone who worked for Playboy.

>popularity polls are a relevant way of gauging quality

>implying Japs arent autistic and dont have shit taste

It's really pretty, but story wise it's nothing out-of-this-world. Not like it's made out to be by reputation, at least

nothing will top it's importance in the west. but anime has produced a ton of great shows that some would say "top it" in animation, story, and/or designs.

the movie is a complete mess when compared to the books. read those instead

Yes. It's pretty to look at but that's about it.

Read the books for the actual story and watch the movie for top notch body horror animation.

Better question, will anything top this?

Probably not as it's sort of been placed on a pedestal of "Great Anime Ever" because people obsessed with lists decided there needed to be one.

At this point, it's sort of a meaningless accolade.

watch more than 10 OVAs/movies

also this is a rec thread that belongs in /trash/

when the only anime movies you've watched are akira and spirited away there isn't a lot of competition. popularity polls are inherently flawed in this way.

>list made by Adult Swim creative director

Fuck off.

Sequel when?

Memories topped it

>6 the wind rises
>Miyazaki's worst movie is somehow #6
its a shit list. Princess Kaguya isn't even listed for fucks sake.

The story is lacking, but the animation is still top tier and it's oozing with style.

Akira is honestly shit desu. It features some of the ugliest character designs of all time and there is barely any shading. None of the girls are even cute. And let's not forget the retarded story.
>edgy kid gets powers for literally no reason and becomes evil
What a masterpiece.
