The Fireworks movie specially looks like a monogatari clone. Maybe not storywise but the style is the same, same character designer, even. If I didn't know about the movie and I saw the key visual, I'd think it's one of the main monogatari girls. Then there's Mekaku City and Zaregoto which also completely copied the monogatari style. Yes even Fate/Extra seems to be copying it.

Not really. The Watanabe designs are a bit tiring to see again, but, from the PV, the anime doesn't actually look like Monogatari, stylistically.

I remember that the publisher ended up asking the author to write more books specifically for KyoAni. So it seems we have reached the stage where the new books are being released near when the films are coming out.

It is win-win really, the important thing is that Eupho is published by Takarajimasha, a tiny company that sells magazines as its original income. And as such they are grateful to get exposure via KyoAni's animations.

I still find it hilarious that the author got surprised that her books based on exaggerated personal experiences ended up being animated. Remember that this is a small publishing house and they didn't have the resources to pay for anime. Not being Kadokawa had its down sides.

I didn't know this, no wonder S2 felt very off. S1 was honestly much better in how it was structured, the way the plot moved felt very natural unlike the arc structure we got in S2. Now I wonder how much better S1/Vol1 would have been if she wasn't told to stretch the series out.

It depends on who is actually to blame. For all we know the novels are fine and KyoAni just made unnecessary changes. Unless you actually read the books themselves you wouldn't know who is at fault.

Monogatari is still better than generic LN haremshit KyoAni animates these days.

Monogatari LNs are decent, anime adaptations arent - probably the worst Nishio "adaptation".. no, that`d be Zaregoto - Shaft completely slaugthered best Nishio work.

You`ll realize how shit anime is if you read the novels or even compare with Live Action adaptation of Okitegami Kyouko: which is actually probably best Nishi adaptation to date.

Katanagatari is inferior novel to Bakemonogatari, but its still superior adaptation to what Shitbo did.

The books for S2 were written before the anime was announced. S1 is one book stretched out to 13 episodes with a ton of original content, S2 is mostly the second and third books. All the Asuka/Nationals stuff is a separate book to the Nozomi stuff. I was impressed by how well Kyoani progressed the story between the two books.

Monogatari is walls of text the series. Go ahead and show me a studio that could adapt it better.

That's just because you haven't been paying attention. KyoAni's standard formula is two seasons plus one film that may or maynot be a recap. They are one of the most reliable sources of anime sequels in the industry. If they can make a sequel, they always do.

Shuka/old Brainbase. Plenty of other studios, the main requirement is just to have good director. Monogatari novels arent big, in fact, they are rather slim (compared to likes of Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere), their main appeal is Nishio language and intricate writing. Its not complex nor big - its just well crafted.

On other hand, the reason Bakemonogatari anime became popular is not even Nishio popularity, but because Shaft turned it into Pornogatari - all fanservice and Shaft personal visual style, no substance. Current monogatari anime series is epitome of "fanservice" - absolutely everything in it is attempt to appeal via style: erotic, poses, visuals, conflicts, how dialogues are adapted. Everything to appeal to teenagers and look "cool".

It could be entirely different experience if done by other people, considering the story on large is actually decent and Nishio writing provides great material.

Its like say, if Eccentric Family was made by Shaft right now - it`ll look exactly like Monogatari too, and maybe be as popular: except that would be insult to novel and author.

At least Nishio doesnt give a fuck and himself likes overthetop nonsense (ironically Medaka box, with all flaws is better "adaptation" than Shaft works are too)

Going full year without announced anime and producing minimum 6 (likely more, since VEG is not listed there yet) movies and telling "Its Movie Year, baby!" is something new.

There is still no TV anime announcements for 2017/2018, and given that now they have hands full with a lot of movies there might be none at all. I doubt they`d adapta Manzaika/Gay Archers/Robot Heart and that other novel in passing by along the Movies, they already should be 110% busy. VEG alone is high profile enouth for them to focus lot of resource on it, and now theres 6 other major works. (well, 1 recap)

It's funny that you are complaining about style over substance while defending KyoAni.

Phantom World, KnK, Chuu2 and Amagi were 100% style over substance.

Yamada did shit in Hibike aside from making few plot decisions, majority of work was done by Ishihara - especially in S2, where Yamada was pretty much not involved other than in a name.

She only directed 1! episode in S1 and 1 in S2, and neither comparable to the better ones by Takemoto, Ishihara or especially Ishidate, Ogawa and Fujita. Same with storyboards.

Yamada is a meme. Yamada "involvement" in Hibike is like telling Urobuchi is responsible for Aldnoah and Gargantia.

Main praise for script goes to Hanada, overall productino and direction of series to Ishihara and most of particularly great moments to directors of specific episodes. All Yamada did is tell Ishihara "she doesnt have time to look at storyboards" and made decision to make it more yuri overall.
