Why is horror manga/anime so scarce and unpopular?
Why is horror manga/anime so scarce and unpopular?
Because it's all the same shit, weird faces and eyes, there's nothing more to it
But you are wrong
This
Asian horror is fucking boring and silly
Because you can find better horror outside of the horror genre because the horror genre is fucking trash.
I want to ask something
Does anyone get scared when they read horror manga?
Because i read shitton of this and i didn't get scared even once.
Even horror anime
because it's never scary
Read Tomie in nighttime, scared? I'd say yes, I was a little.
Because we're in the era of kawaii girls and moeblobs
Everything else doesn't matter unless it's a classic
The visual novels are scary though. Just by their atmosphere.
got freaked out a little reading junji once.
only thing that has seriously scared me was fucking terra formars
because it sucks nigga
>Sup Forums hates horror
>Sup Forums loves moeblobs and shonen shit
What the fuck happened?
kids found Sup Forums
Yami Shibai was kinda spoopy.
Everything went to shit since gg. Also, the reddit invasion that keeps growing since the last years.
There's not a lot of great examples of it. Horror manga requires both writing and art. Portus is great to look at but the writing is pretty bad.
Compare it to other genres where the artwork can just be charming and serve to carry the characters/writing.
Watched the first season and it was 90% of ear-raping spook scares.
Kagewani was much better when it came to building atmosphere and keeping up tension, some reasons being lack of ear-rape, a more realistic artstyle, rememberable characters (both humans and monsters), and well-paced directing. While some episodes were definitely unintentionally funny (eg. the ceiling turtle), most of them managed to set their mood properly whether it was suspense, panic, or disgust.
Also, ARRIVAL OF FEAAAAAAAAR
Silly Sup Forumsnons that think the thrill of horror is about being scared
I don't understand why horror as a genre is popular in the first place. I like more atmospheric horror like Kuro and Ghost Hound and Dead Space but the vast majority of horror tries to be as gory as possible and chock full of jump scares for some reason.
Because it's fun and the settings are limitless.
How is a cartoon suppose to be scary?
It's literally not real, so there's no possibility at all of a threat happening to you.
This.
How is a cartoon supposed to be funny/cute/romantic/etc? It's not real
How is resident evil 7 with VR even scary? It's not real
Horror novels have been a thing for ages. But it takes more to make drawings scary I'd think.
Something like:
Video Games>Film>Book>Cartoon
Anyways as far as horror manga goes there are a few good ones but most of them don't pull it off well.
Dead Space is both less atmospheric and more gorey than almost any horror manga.
I remember reading Uzumaki like 10 years ago during the night and a scene involving a staircase going down to the basement creeping me out (can't remember what exactly).
I think that's the only instance of me being scared by manga/anime.
I probably should re-read Uzumaki someday.
Not the same thing, you're retarded. Something can only be scary if it's a threat to your well being.
It's not. Who actually thinks it's scary?
Dead Space 1 only becomes scary when you play it in imposible, you fear for your life at every corner. The anmo is so scarce that you'll have to slow enemies and run away.
How can demonstrate and ghost be scary if they aren't real
How can cockroaches be scary if they can't really harm you
How can the dark be scary if you don't see anything
How can noises be scary if it doesn't physically hurt you
How can divorce be scary if all you lose is paper with imaginary value
How can death be scary if you can't be conscious
How can the unknown be scary if it's not known
That's not scary, being annoying to play doesn't make something scary. Being afraid of your fictional life isn't scary after your first death.
I love horror stuff but I never get scared. Horror is not about being scared to begin with. You just don't like/understand the genre.
>
I love the creepiness more thant the horror, weird stuff it's entertaining.
>158222461
You should, and other works from Junji Ito if you still haven't.
They aren't.
No one is really scared of cockroaches, but they are disease ridden, and used to be one of the things that spread the plague.
The dark prevents you from seeing threats, thus is a threat itself.
Noise can psychically hurt you, you dumb fuck.
Money is not an imaginary value, and who hell thinks that's scary?
I mean, you're not even smart enough to type correctly and literally all of your examples are wrong.
Horror is literally define by intense fear, disgust and shock.
What are you doing user?
Anyone reading this?
>but they are disease ridden
That is dependent entirely on their environment. The average roach is probably cleaner than you are.
Failing quoting
You are a very autistic person.
I can't read it if I don't know the name.
Because Japan consider horror shitty child ghosts you can kill with dick strikes?
Manga/anime is just bad for any kind of horror and no adult men should be scared about "scary" stuff displayed in a screen anyways
Not really. I've seen/read/heard so many horror stuff so far that I'm practically desensitized by it. And I still love it.
>Noise isn't scary if it doesn't hurt you
>if it doesn't hurt you
Reading comprehension. Get it.
It's hard to not come off as cheesy. I don't know why all asian horror has this feeling.
Most anime/manga art style don't look very creepy sans a few exceptions, most of the time it looks more stupid than unsettling.
this user has a point
Spooky ghost waifu.
It's not. It's just actual scary ones are scarce.
>The dark prevents you from seeing threats, thus is a threat itself.
and thus 'The Dark' is scary, you just proved his own point not refute
Pls source user
It's funny, because you're the autistic one for not actually addressing anything that's said. I also love when people reply "autistic" while act autistic themselves.
>this user
It's just you. And retard, the point is that can hurt you, which everyone knows, which is why you considering it a threat. Knowing it can hurt you is where the threat comes from, not if it's currently hurting you.
Stop your bullshitting, Dead Space if any fucking horror game is atmospheric as fuck. Now usually I'd refrain from making vidya posts on Sup Forums, but I can not stand this fucking bold faced lie going uncalled.
I haven't played the sequels but the first one was definitely atmospheric. It was definitely gory but it wasn't in your face all the time.
You can't read at all. Not can you type.
>his
You.
Google it's your friend.
Now this is an image I can reverse search with. Thanks user.
It's a shitty shooting corridor simulator.
You could say that about horror in every medium
Your mom is a shitty shooting corridor simulator
My mom is also not scary
Naah. Horror movies and vidya are plentiful, it's just rare that they're actually good.
kek
If you haven't noticed the recurring theme of happiness and confidence reassurance within anime, you clearly aren't aware of the reserved timid attitude that sweeps across 80% of the average Jap teenager
What's a good horror work?
Thanks for just continuing to show what a bad poster you are.
Franken Fran
John Carpenter's The Thing
Devilman
A Deserter in the House
The only kind of horror that matters is existential horror desu
Yami no Koe
It's barely translated because no one wants anything to do with the cancer that plagues horror. Not even 50 replies and it's already a Sup Forums thread full of "kek" and "vydia".
That's more of a straight up gorefest, innit?
Maybe it's just me, but that story has been storytimed to death in LOL threads that it stopped being spooky. Ito's works ranges from gross to spooky to unexpectedly hilarious in general.
>That's more of a straight up gorefest, innit?
No, it's more psychological if anything.
Silent Hill WAS good. Lovecraft is good. Poe is good.
Gamesforgirls
>it's another glyceride re-read
How devilish
Devilman is not horror
Moeblobs and shonen shit is miles better right?
...
>That's more of a straight up gorefest, innit?
I wouldn't call Franken Fran a horror. I think of it more like a macabre slice of life.
>Maybe it's just me, but that story has been storytimed to death in LOL threads that it stopped being spooky.
Ignoring the fanbase and just looking at the work itself, I still think it's one of his most spooky stories. The first time you read that one you're genuinely creeped out by that final reveal.
You make a good point. Horror is about the unexpected, and reading things where you already know what's going to happen takes a lot of the impact away. Now that I think about it, I do genuinely feel spooped out the first time.
Because horror needs hard work to be good and nip artists that do that are scarce.
It's definitely horror, I'm not sure how you could ever consider it anything but that.
>Implying there is a correlation between genre and quality.
>Caring about something being a certain genre without actually caring about the purpose of a particular story.
Ah yes, I remember the part where two sentient fursuits have unprotected sex. Truly horrifying.
Because it's not scary, and it rarely ever tries to be scary. It's just dark. A bit like Berserk, I don't consider that a horror either despite it being shock full of horror elements and gore
Franken Fran is more like a comedy with horror elements
It doesn't matter what you consider it.
Horror anime is probably ruined by the limits they can do on TV.
Even late at night I doubt they could do much.
>and reading things where you already know what's going to happen takes a lot of the impact away
Definitely. The ending of Amigara Fault terrified me for a while when I was younger, but I've seen and discussed that manga so many times on Sup Forums that it has absolutely no impact on me what so ever anymore. I can understand that a lot of people feel this way about Junji Ito. However he's still a creative genious when it comes to body horror art and character design, and some of his stories are still very well written.
But it's not scary, and it doesn't try to be scary. How can that be horror?
Just because you personally didn't find it scary doesn't make it not horror. Your subjective experience doesn't change a genre.
Then what fucking characteristics defines this comedy as a horror?
Maybe you should actually read it instead of shitposting you fucking Sup Forums crossposter.
Plain horror doesn't sell, what we need is battle horror, isekai horror, idol horror.
Maybe with streaming sales getting huge they will try some.
I HAVE read all of it you fucking imbecile, it's one of my favorite manga because of the fun one-off stories format and the fantastically drawn gore. I even made a fucking honey select card of her
But Franken Fran is not a horror. A few of the stories parody horror, but for the most part it's just a black comedy
>shonen
>isekai
>idolshit
Hope this is bait
>isekai horror
We already have Drifting Classroom. Not that I've ever read it, but I think it counts.
