Been watching anime for the last 4 years and just started watching Naruto about a year ago (I know I'm late) and I'm a little past halfway through shippuden. Spoilers: I have a question for all the Naruto fans on Sup Forums, do you feel that Itachi was justified in killing his family to stop a revolt in Konoha? I would say he is justified but he killed them while the Third Hokage was still negotiating a peace deal with the Uchihas, so there could have been a peaceful solution without anyone getting killed so his actions seem unnecessary/premature. So what you do you guys think? Is he a hero? Evil? I'd like to hear both perspectives.

Danzo pretty much forced him into it. He wasn't going to settle for anything less than the annihilation of the Uchiha, and peace talks were certain to fall apart as long as he took that position.

That being said, Danzo was right and the Uchiha are a cancer.

necessary drama for the plot to be convenient. Nothing more.

lurk more

Good shitpost

Cancer.

>peace talks were certain to fall apart as long as he took that position
Did Danzo really have that much power where he could prevent a peaceful solution singlehandedly?

Danzo controlled a complex network of deep state actors. The peace talks were unlikely to work out in the first place—sabotaging them would not be difficult. He didn't even need to do it intentionally. Just approaching the problem with the mindset that the Uchiha were a problem that needed to be dealt with permanently was enough to make certain the situation would escalate.

Hiruzen was the only person in power with a real desire to see peace, and it seemed as though Danzo was taking point on this operation and largely keeping him in the dark. By the time Hiruzen realized how dire the situation was, extermination was inevitable.

So isn't the real problem Danzo and not the Uchihas then? Wouldn't it have been better if Itachi had killed Danzo instead of his entire clan? That way peace talks would have continued without his interruption and a peaceful solution would be more likely to happen without Danzo getting in the way

There was literally no reason he couldn't have used the eye he received from Shisui to do any number of things, not least of which could be
a) tell Danzo to calm the fuck down
b) tell all the Uchiha to calm the fuck down
c) tell Obito to calm the fuck down, and then kill himself

Danzo killed Shisui. Itachi probably wasn't powerful enough at that point to kill him and his Root bodyguards (which is probably specifically equipped to deal with Uchiha). Even then, killing Danzo doesn't fix the Uchiha problem. Danzo needed to be taken out from the very beginning, and Tobirama before that. He's emblematic of an anti-Uchiha sentiment which predates him and exists without him, and probably still permeates the ANBU. Remember that Obito was also fucking around and trying to cause trouble as well.

Doesn't Shisui's eye take like 10 fucking years to recharge? who knows if Itachi had the chakra to use it on one person, let alone all the people he'd have to defuse to stop the coup.

From what I understand he couldn't use Shisui's eye because you can only use that eye's mangekyo once every few years and that eye had been used recently. Itachi explains this when he's edo tenseied by Kabuto in the war arc

Justified...? I don't know. Itachi feels like more of an excuse to give Sasuke motivation to me more than anything, no matter how well it's written. Itachi was a very powerful shinobi, and he clearly cared at least somewhat for his clan as evident by the fact that he couldn't bring himself to kill Sasuke. It kind of begs the question of why he didn't take different action. Why he didn't try and escape the leaf with his clan or kill Danzoo and his people or anything really. It just feels poorly planned when you observe it from that perspective, especially considering how big of a role itachi plays later on. I don't think I can really consider him a hero though, even though I can see the justification in his actions. A really hero would've gotten the good ending and kept the whole clan alive while resolving the conflict.

Kill yourself you cancerous shitposter.

I agree, I feel like Itachi could have told the Uchihas what was going on and either
a. Left the village altogether
---or---
b. Team up to take out Danzo and then negotiate a solution after that.

I don't really think Itachi was evil necessarily, I just think he made a poor decision with good intentions. I see some say he's a hero for making such a tough decision and sacrificing for his village but I feel like he gave up on his clan too quickly since he didn't hold out for a peaceful solution

...

>made a poor decision with good intentions
seems to be a running gag with the Uchihas.
I cut the show some slack in that regard though, Naruto has ultimately been kind of a shit show in terms of it's narrative and plot structure. I feel like it mostly makes up for it though with how well it can characterize and world build. Like, sure, the reasons for a lot of things happen can be stupid as hell and not make a lot of sense, but damned if Kishi doesn't make you care about the characters and their interactions. There's a lot of pretty heavy scenes in Shippuden and some of them are with characters that aren't even really related the main characters & plot. It lends a lot of legitimacy to the world.

For sure, Naruto has some of the best character development I have seen any anime. And even though I criticize Itachi's reasoning for killing the Uchiha clan I still enjoy the fact that Kishi added nuance to his character by having him do it for the village and not just some selfish reason or the typical one-dimensional evil villain who's evil just for the sake of the plot

>For sure, Naruto has some of the best character development I have seen any anime.
come on now, i like naruto but this is just silly.

Narutards should be permabaned on sight.

There was a time when this was actually the case.

Narutards really are newfags. They can't even keep their reddit background from slipping by not even knowing how to do spoiler tags.

You were never funny, you cancerous spammer.

Problem?

this coming from a narutard

It takes ten years when it's in a crow. Regardless, using it on any one of those groups would've fixed most of the problems. Kotoamatsukami doesn't require eye contact, and so he could easily cast it on all the Uchiha at once.

The eye that Shisui gave to Itachi hadn't been used as of the night of the Massacre. Shisui was actually waiting on the go-ahead from Hiruzen to cast it on his clan anyway, but Danzo got to him first.

He should've just cast it and asked forgiveness later.

MODS?

Do you really let a webm of a children's cartoon upset you this much?

It's Sup Forums, what do you think?

Your post looks like I could substitute it with an exchange on Sup Forums so I think it's wrong.

It WAS in a crow, though. And we don't know if it can be used on more than one person at once. I'm thinking it probably can't be. Shisui wanted to use it on Fugaku, which only would have delayed the inevitable.
