It's all about location in the United States. My home cost me $265,000.00 USD and if it was in some middle-class neighborhood in San Francisco it would probably be worth 1.5 million. In parts of Texas, I could build a much larger home for that same price and get several acres of land as well. Then there are places like New York where you have to pay several million dollars for some tiny condo.

Not that guy but I live in northeast ohio. Its not hard at all to find a house in the 30-40k range that might not be up to date in terms of style and shit. But still move in ready. Spend 20-40k more and you can find more modern houses move in ready. All depends where you live.
