Cnn is trying to make it seem like intercepting spy planes is something new
T. Guy who use to be a crew member on a P-3

Is there some specific criterion that distinguishes a safe intercept from an unsafe intercept?

Warning shots

...

It flew within 5 feet.

...

So was this intercept safe or unsafe? Which news source is lying?

Probably safe, considering it's more embarrassing and annoying and not "holy shit we nearly died".

Probably "safe", but i'll assume that russia really didnt need to intercept this if it was actually in international airspace, but CNN wants to come out on top to make the most of the moment and keep up the anti-russia agenda.

Flying with 5 feet is considered unsafe. That said, I wasn't there, so I don't know.

SLIDE THREAD
Stop and think! Why is OP posting what he's posting? The answer is he's trying to distract us from talking about the crucial business of gassing the Taig menace. Remember lads, it is your duty to ensure that your children do not have to live in a world where these subhumans, these literal baboons soil this pure Earth. A bright future is within our grasp.

Don't thank me lads, i'm just doing my duty - NOW DO YOURS.

The virgin American and the chad Russian.

It happens all the fucking time, non news

if anything the american spyplane intentionally tried to fly to close to vodka drinkers to get intercepted so that the spy plane could try to pick up and decrypt russian radio keys that SU used when communicating with base on a "successful intercept mission"

dumb vodka drinkers fall for it every time

also radar and infared signatures were probably gathered from the SU fighter

So what was the point? Checking to make sure they're still checking?

>RT calling it a spy plane

It looks for submarines. It's not a spy plane.

...

Devilish Mr Grinch Defense.

RIP Ty3

So which one is it?

>military aircraft looks for submarines near Russian ports
>not a spy plane

Reading between the lines, my guess is that the US plane was in international airspace but headed towards Russian airspace. Only way both reports could be right - it was in international airspace, and the Russian plane did escort it away from Russian airspace.

the ep-3 is a sigint plane

This happens all the time
