What is practiced under the name yoga in the west is Scandinavian not Indian. Downward dog is as Indian as General Tzu's Chicken is Chinese. Also many yoga studios have at least one "karma" class per week where you pay whatever you wish or even nothing. In addition, many towns have meetups that do free yoga.
