you get jaded. I've been a fan of nip-shit since I was in highschool and saw the VHS of Ninja Scroll. Hunted down Akira, then started tracking down fan-subbed VHS at comic-conventions.
Chio-chan cracks me up. So does Kaguya. There are a few other manga I hunt down from time to time to read, but mostly my manga consumption has gone the way of my anime consumption. It has to entertain me for me to watch it. I used to watch pretty much anything. but you see enough of this shit and eventually your interest wanes a bit, you realize how bad most of it really is, you learn to recognise how shit the nip VAs are in most stuff. Eventually all the strangeness of japan becomes normal, and you realize you only like most manga/anime because its "foreign" not because it's good.
The strengths of anime are the ability to tell a long form story, most american TV is episodic, anime tends to not be episodic. Sometimes a studio captures a look, sound and lands the right cast and plot to make something that stands on its own. Most of the time whats put out by the industry is pure shit.
I'm not some elitist, I tend to favor comedies over most other anime content, probably because comedy can stay fresh. I like trash just as much as I like good "normal favorite" anime/manga from time to time too. I'm probably going to toss "the world god only knows" season 1 or 2 in and just let it run in the background while I game persona3
I've pretty much dropped everything airing this season (well from watching week to week, there is stuff good enough i'll probably try to marathon after the season).
I guess this is a long rambling answer to say I like reading Chio-chan because it makes me laugh.

I still read a fair amount of manga but a lot of it is just to pass the time or read on the toilet, there's probably about half a dozen manga that I actually look forward to reading including Chio-chan. There would be more if they were updated somewhat regularly.

I don't know whether or not to be happy or mad about this. On the on hand, Chio is pathetic and I'm glad the girl confirmed it. On the other hand, Manana and Andou is not an endgame pairing I want to see and I'm not looking forward to any chapter that teases it.
