The polls definitely had an effect, but this is more of Hori trying to develop the secondary characters. class A has 20 people, then you have All Might, and now Sir, and the Big 3, and Fatty, and Bubble girl, and Eri, and the Yakuza, and Overhaul, and etc. There are a lot of characters and they are gonna need to get some development.

Iida has a part in every arc so far (with the exception of the exam arc), so him being out for this arc isn't that big of a deal imo. Also it's better than Kirishima is getting his chapters early in the arc, we will get Ochako too. It seems to me that Hori is giving them screen time based on their teams, we got Suneater already and now we get Fat and Kirishima. After that i'm guessing he'll move to Ochako/Froppy/Ryukyu/Nejire team and then finish it with Nighteye/Deku/Mirio.
