Top-Selling Media Franchises in Japan: 2017 (First Half)

This list covers sales surveyed from December 12, 2016 to June 11, 2017. It includes the raw yen totals of Blu-ray Discs, DVDs, music CDs, novels in print, and manga in print, but not games, film tickets, digital downloads, and other forms of media sales.

Still trying to deny KF existence?

>not games, film tickets, digital downloads, and other forms of media sales.
kek
If this was an actual realistic list, the top notchers would be Gundam, AKB0048, One Piece, Love Live, Im@s, and of course, Fate Franchise

I forgot to mention Touhou, Kancolle, and Kemono Friends

The list is pointless.
It doesn't count merchandise, games ,etc.

>but not games, film tickets, digital downloads, and other forms of media sales.
So it's pointless for sales circlejerking, but that's not going to stop you cancerous sales faggots.

You also forgot Dragon Ball

>No naruto

Narufags BTFO

Everything too mainstream like Pokemon and shit is just commonsense

For the millionnth time, there's no record of its sales out there for people to see, because it's an extra.

But you're going to keep playing dumb and ask this the next time anyway.

Lurk more fucking retard.

>Yuri on Ice sold that much

Jesus christ.

Literally the only time you'll see a yuri title that high.

But One Piece has been up there for decades! And YOI isn't even a year old!

>tfw you live in a time where YOI is the best selling tv anime of all time

But yuri was supposed to conquer the earth

wtf is High & Low?

> Full-Time Wife Escapist
What the heck is that? Hang on, I'll google.

Oh, lord. Never mind.

>One Piece defeated Gundam
>Im@s defeated Love Live
>Attack on Titan defeated Kamen Rider
>Yuuri on Ice even comparable to anyone

>Fucking pokemon, which is responsible for 6% of Japanese GDP is waaay down below

The movie was so popular that it made the manga huge. It will get an anime likely.

Resident Evil is just Pachinko Machines these days.

What the fuck is this shitty list.

IDOL AKBAR
LLFAGS ON SUICIDE WATCH

Fujoshit.

>The Full-Time Wife Escapist
Oh, it's that J-drama with the meme ED dance

Seriously, man? Can't a man enjoy watching badass bro-on-bro fisting without any of you calling it gay?

>fateshit tops star wars and potter

Shhh...

Kamen Rider?

Watch Crows if you want something good, HL is defintely gay idol shit.

FGO pulls in like 1m$ a day every day, in this case for half a year. Unless Star Wars/Potter releases a film soon it'll stay that way.

Dude, its the very founder of Super Sentai and was where Power Rangers based on

Are you an idiot?
Do you even know how much merch Star Wars and Potter sells in a single minute?

I see a purple power ranger wearing a green bike, is that kamen rider?

Please all franchise you mention is nothing and going to get anal devastated by a fucking POKEMON.

whats Crows

We are talking about Japan, Star Wars and HP aren't even in the top merchandise sellers.

Well, if you are gonna play it that way then Mario is going to devastate Pokemon

The world of celestial giants is just too mainstream to argue about

>Token Ranbu
>But no Kancolle on list.

They really fucked up hard on Anime or what?

You should check again. Mario isn't that big. It's big, but don't underestimate Pokemon

Isn't Pokémon the most valued media franchise?
The estimates I have seen put it around 20 billion and are considered underestimations.

It's time for more suffering in season 2 major

Pokemon is very close to catch up with Mario, despite years of advantage that mario have.

Shit literally prints money.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable

Part 5 confirmed?

Pokemon is far bigger than Mario, Pokemon is even bigger than Star Wars and HP.
Recent estimates put Mario at a value of 10 billion.
Pokemon at 20.

To put merchandise sales in perspective, Bandai Namco made $600 million with dragonball and $750 million with gundam last year.

50k BD total is pretty good, right?

For how long it was and the QUALITY from the TV anime, I'd say it's alright.

Last year Diamond sold 50k, so yes part 5 confirmed.

well that's fucking obvious, those franchises have been popular for +40 years and are practically household names.

like saying mario sold +1billion in merch.

>Star Wars at 17th
holy shit

It flat out said it exclude games. And for Gundam, it doesn't include gunpla, which is where the real value is.

Seriously, this list is very flawed since you're comparing using incomplete data and putting together franchise with different focus.

It helps that Pokemon is much more diversified than Mario.

>Tofu Pro Wrestling

>power rangers was based on super sentai

Huh. The more you know

No, you're missing the bigger point, it means the list is pointless. What's the point of calling it top selling if you're going restrict what can count for stuff like Gundam.

The power rangers you watched as a kid are two different shows spliced together. The americans shot the scenes for humans part while all the fighting in suits against monsters? Those were the actual jap footage.

Digimon is still going?

Naruto video games sell more than bone peace manga

Where's Pokémon?

#23
A joke more awful than German comedy

IM@S reigns supreme.

It's only anime stuff?
IM@S ftw

That list didn't include merchandise.

Yes, there's an Evangelion homage in it as well.

>Yo-kai Watch

>They still keep the no fangame policy.

I dunno if this is smart or retarded as fuck, because Kancolle Kai on vita was a fucking abomination, even the browser game was miles better.

Meanwhile kemono friends got gorillions of fangames quick.

>even the browser game was miles better
What
How
What is the gameplay

do you even know what kancolle is

I do, I played it, and I hated it
Which is why I'm wondering how the fuck does a handheld game manage to have worse gameplay than the browser game.
Arashi a best

ye i was confused.

>Godzilla Series still that high

>he play video games for gameplay

It was pretty much the same as browser game but dumbed down, it got some QoL stuff but the ugly ass UI don't help in nothing.

Also they delayed back and forth that crap.

What is it with Japs and this idol shit?

>let's make a game for a handheld
>except it's also gonna be a waiting game with minimal input by the player and still has grindan out of the ass
Someone kill the devs

Eh.. If makes you happy, Sega AM2 made a arcade game with 3d models and a "proper" gameplay.

But, you, never ever etc. Kadokawa is just sitting on IP milking it to death, I really find that no fangame policy silly as fuck, considering that they said that the game don't make that much money anyway.

>AKB0048
Wait, what? I thought this was relatively obscure.

Spoilered for completely off-topic: Is anyone else getting bogus "image appears to be corrupted" errors with Sup Forums X right now, or just me?

Yes. S8 is airing right now.

Well, it was based on AKB48 - the #1 idol group in Japan. Even bigger than Love Live

>What is it with Japs and this idol shit?
Japs otaku are retarded.

>Wait, what? I thought this was relatively obscure.
Pretty sure he means the whole 3D idol franchise it's from which is the biggest one in Japan.

Didn't LL blocked fanwork or something? Shit is pretty stupid considering that this thing pretty much moves any IP.

they only blocked bootleg merchandise

This list doesn't include fanwork, merchandise, etc....
It's pretty much a pointless list , since a substantial amount of anime revenue comes from merchandising.

>yfw Animal Friends didn't even sell past the Manabi Line

When merchandise is included,
Pokemon would No. 1 by a very, very large margin

The vita game was made by a different group of devs who delayed it for over a year and then rushed it out the door when Kadokawa discovered they had barely made any progress. They already cancelled support too so you can't even buy it aside from second hand. It was truly an abortion. The pace was actually slower since the battle cutscenes were somehow longer and much uglier.

Where's HxH?

>no other forms of media sales

Gundam earned like 80 billion yen in like 2013 or something.
What's the point of making a top-selling list if you don't even include merchandise, the main selling point of animu?

>49,925
>JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable
I thought it'd sold like 6k BDs per volume?

Ah nevermind, it's total sales

BDs and DVDs are the most sure indicator of how well an anime is making a profit. Literally nothing else matters. I learned this from reading Sup Forums sales threads and everyone in there knows what they're talking about.

>live action adaptation of a josei manga is literally almost as big as LL and above scores of chuunishit
YOUR TIME IS ROLLING OVER
MY TIME IS COMING SOON

FGO alone in 2016 probably made over 3 billion, include the rest and Aniplex is getting over 5 billion from them last year in sales as a publisher.

It's not exactly that difficult to out sale an established franchise using well-written and well-marketed creative work.

Unfortunately, it won't be a long lived victory as the other party has lots of merch, games, and internet presence to keep its revenue going inspite of all the years of fame.

Any list without fate in the top 5 is a list without mobile and that means it means jackshit

>Kek one piece number one
