How is Berserk 97 generally regarded?

best animation of a berserk anime

Its ok I guess.

Decent Animation + good soundtrack.

kino
at least the soundtrack is

except for the ending

really though, read the manga. Biggest gap between manga and anime Ive seen

I liked it.
I would literally kill for a show like this that does the whole story (or at least, as much as it can because we all know Miura will never wrap shit up). All properly animated, no CGI anywhere to be seen.

>skinniest kid at fat camp

probly one of the best anime soundtracks of all time.

>kino
>at least the soundtrack is
That would be zvukovaya dorojka

0/10 not enough [CLANG]

Pretty good adaptation, except the last few eps, which are anime original.
Also that sweet 90's animation.

I cant understand how they could make an ending specifically for the anime and fuck it up that bad.

How did they "fuck it up that bad"?

Entertaining and has style. Both qualities are lacking in the last adaptation.

There is literally no resolution

It should just say "Read the manga" at the end

Knew when to end at the right place. No point continuing berserk after eclipse

Good direction.
Great OST.
Almost no animation but whatever.
Best animation for Berserk we have so far, which is a shame given how much they cut out and where they stopped, although I can't be arsed to check up how far along Berserk was in 97 so maybe there wasn't much else to animate.

It's an alright adaption that leaves things out, but it's fairly solid on its own merits if taken as a standalone thing. Though, it does end with Guts walking out the door with Dragonslayer and opens with Guts murdering the Count I think, only for the rest of the show to be about the Golden Age arc.

I want to say that they were finishing the Lost Children Arc and just about to enter the Holy Chains Arc (is that an arc I can't remember).

That's exactly where the manga was at that point. The manga was only at the 13th volume by the time the 97 series released, so the anime adapted all of the manga that was released up to that point. Of course there would be no resolution because that was the extent of the story at the point.

Then why not end with a glimpse into the Black Swordsman arc, which had already been produced?

The manga began in the late 80s but the anime aired during the end of the Golden Age arc and the beginning of the Lost Children arc. So it does make sense that they ended it where they did.

Like everyone else, I do think the biggest issues with the anime are the animation and the fact that they stopped short but it's kind of understandable, given how complex the art got as the manga went on. They probably just didn't have the budget to pull it off. There are a few anime only shots that I really love though, like pic related.

They wanted to end the anime as a tragedy, and the eclipse is the height of that tragedy. Just cutting to Guts as the black swordsman after the eclipse wouldn't make sense from a narrative point of view (in other words, how did Guts get there?). The show set out to adapt the golden age saga, showing Guts after that as the black swordsman without much explanation (since that part of the manga of how Guts escaped the eclipse was not even released yet) would not have made any sense to audiences.

Great. Good animation (when there is any), direction, soundtrack, etc. Just the whole package

PUT YOUR GRASSES AHN

Resoundingly OK.
Phenomenal when you consider it's budgetary constraints.

No excuses for money.

It makes the 2016 berserk look like crap, well I think everyone would of come to that conclusion anyway... So sad for berserk fans.

It can't be helped.
