Reminder NieA had the best opening out of all ABe shows

He didn't make Japan great again.
No reason to appreciate the fucker.

Abe will make anime great again. Japon superpower by 2020

kill yourself

I don't even like Sup Forums memes, but shitposting about Abe always seems funny too me.
His face just somehow looks funny too me (not the wrong kind of funny).

Despera when?

Sora no Woto is Haibane Renmei done right.

...

Sora no Woto is totally different, friendo. They're not comparable.

They're very similar anime: first half or so is SoL then second half or so gets more serious. Both have "deeper" themes than your average mostly/all female cast SoL. Some of the characters are analogous too: Konata = Rakka and Rio = Rekki. Both anime have a pervading mood/feel of mystery, as one wonders what lies outside of the Haibanes' town or the Wotos' habitable zone.
SnW is objectively better, however, because its girls are much cuter.

It took me so long to realize juno reactor did the music for the matrix as well.

Call me a fag if you will, but HR is probably one of the only anime where I actually felt a connection to the problems of the characters. Despite them being angels, they had refreshingly human problems.

>Sup Forums boogeyman

fuck off

Haibane Renmei is the one show I have no intention of ever talking about on Sup Forums. Sorry guys, most of you just aren't worthy.

It's sad but I agree.
Haibane Renmei holds a special place in my heart, and I'm not willing to let others into that place.

The above-ground scene was the best part of texhnolyze desu

Somebody explain to me the big deal of the crow skeleton in the well. Obviously it dealt with Rakka's falling dream, but what was the significance of what she talked with it about?
Maybe I just had bad subs, or something.

Incidentally, what group has the best subs for Haibane?

Fair enough. I don't have an anime equivalent of that feeling but for /lit/ it's the Redwall series.

The crow was something or someone that tried to follow her from her old world, but she couldn't remember exactly who or what it was.

I don't know about subs, but avoid the bad BD upscale.

After seeing , I can relate.

Glie is a place of healing and rest. Wotoworld is trying to kill them. That's the root of the variance. It feels similar because it's a group of girls living together and hanging out in a friendly European town, then dealing with internal conflicts, but the haibanes' conflicts have much more to do with their own problems than the wotos, who are trying to have love in their hearts even in an apparently hostile, uncaring universe.

The climax of Haibane Renmei is an intimate scene between two friends, the climax of SnW is a declaration of grace from a literal trumpet from a literal rooftop. I agree that they're comparable, but not that one did the other better.

>tfw Despera will never drop

I really enjoyed Niea Under 7, but I tend to only see people shit on it for whatever reason.

Haibane Renmei is about personal unhappiness in a kind world, while Sora no Woto is personal happiness in an unkind one.

Nods silently.

get out

Nope. You're the one who has no place here. None at all. Please leave. Now.

*nods wisely*
very much so, sirrah, kindly depart *draws swordcane*

Both are overrated garbage.

Haibane Renmei is one of the easiest 8 or 9s/10 you'll ever give and is still considered one of best shows in the medium, meanwhile Sora no Woto is only alive because of a piss episode and memes.

It's almost as if Sora no Woto stole almost every element from Haibane, had no idea what to do with those with a focus that's all over the place and opted for cookie-cutter character interactions and K-On character designs instead.

You can't really compare a masterful Iyashikei subversion and poetic as well as cathartic existential introspection with cuteness + PTSD.

Unfortunately, probably never

this this this this

That's because literally every element in the show pushes you to feel that connection. The strict focus on the two mains, the abstract symbolism, the implied character interactions, the melancholic atmosphere, the vagueness that also affects the characters psychologically and pushes you to dig further and while doing so you start discovering more about the world, the characters and more importantly yourself.

Haibane Renmei's understatedness pushes the viewers to feel more intimate with the elements of the show. And it's extremely effective at doing that.

Will this be the ~once a year Haibane Renmei/ABe thread that reaches bump limit?

Was Yoshii right?

At this rate and considering No.
But that doesn't mean you can't have fun.

No. It'll probably be bumped off next morning. That's alright though, his stuff is too good for this world.

youtube.com/watch?v=CRitFx2pRpQ
comfy thread theme

Fair enough.
On a different note, holy shit. I didn't know ABe had a 30 page feature in the Illustration magazine, or that magazine even existed.

could somebody drop some of abe's art books?

codeartstudio.org/artists/artist.php?id=13&page=1

>stole almost every element
>had no idea what to do with those
Maybe rather than SnW doing Haibane Renmei wrong it was actually doing... different things? And instead of it being completely unfocused at being Haibane Renmei it was actually being very well-focused at being Sora no Woto?

>subversion
ah nevermind, opinion discarded

thanks man!

fuck off

Shigofumi is my favorite ABe.

if only they kept delivering letters instead of doing that retarded 2nd half...

mine is Chaos;head, which was Lain done right.

It's my favourite by far as well, the ED is fantastic as well. As less polished as NieA is, it really had some great things about it.

It's the show that most people watch last after having seen every other ABe related work. It's understandable that the other shows might leave them with higher expectations that in turn leave them disappointed when they realise how comparatively simple and unpolished NieA is. I still love it to bits though.

Yoshii is the best ABe girl.

The sheer number of unscanned ABe doujinshi and even a few art books always makes me want to cry. Pretty much none of his newer stuff is out there.

So Sora no Woto was focused at being mediocre? At least it's somewhat commendable.

And you really have to be blind not to notice that Sora no Woto straight up copy/pasted many things, it even has a budget wings scene except one of the MCs caught a cold instead.

And how is Haibane Renmei not an iyashikei subversion? Next time you watch something make sure to interpret the dialogue and the symbols present in the show. Even the anime's multi-layered atmosphere screams that. It's almost as if one of the MCs considers the setting to be a comfortable prison and wants to achieve "death" by faking her own happiness and kindness. If that's not subverting that trope, then I don't know what is.

>Shigofumi
...But it's different Abe.

>>Sup Forums

It's not an ABe thread without Lain

Don't understand people who find the early episode Texhnolyze boring. The atmosphere and world-building is amazing. It does a great job of telling a story with minimal dialogue too.

>t even has a budget wings scene except one of the MCs caught a cold instead
So every cold scene is now a copypasta? SnW cold was focused on Rio being nervous as fuck, because of her fears, whilst HR scene was about Rakka herself going through tremendous pains.

SnW and HR have similarities, but by reducing every plot element you can argue that practically every story in existence is the same.

I wholeheartedly agree
Texhnolyze is a fantastic show

>Next time you watch something make sure to interpret the dialogue and the symbols present in the show.
gee, maybe if you'd done that while watching SnW you wouldn't be embarrassing yourself on the internet right now.

I'd love to find out one day whether the settings in Haibane Renmei were based on real world locations.

Apparently ABe might have based Old Home on an abandoned boarding school that he went to visit in or near Paris.

>And how is Haibane Renmei not an iyashikei subversion?
No one said it wasn't. The implication was that you're a faggot for throwing out the word as if it wins you the argument. SnW was a subversion too. Girls are in a place they would not normally be! ...but that's because so many men died and they're still trying to have a war. Motherly girl can be relied on all the time except she has a cute fear of thunderstorms! ...but that's because she's shell-shocked from tank combat and is trying to use the girls to replace the comrades she couldn't save. There you go. Subversion.

Claiming SnW was HR but bad is as stupid as claiming it was HR but good. They were different stories going for different things.

You can't really compare a masterful CGDCT subversion and poetic as well as cathartic paean to grace with cuteness + depression.

Mayuko was 10/10 waifu material

>that guy who realizes it but is too spaghetti to do anything but bring her rice

Lain is just a Key ripoff

...

She's definitely a contender for my favourite ABe girl. She's underrated, like the entire show.

I wish he would still draw such masterpieces. His recent works lost all their power, they look more like some mildly interesting fanarts now. What happened to ABe nowadays anyway? He was handled as a great artist during the early 00s.

Since we're shitposting about SnW and HR, figured I'd throw in my two cents.
I don't want to see the characters from SnW anymore. Not saying that I don't love them, because I do, but I feel like their story is more complete, and progression in the story will only lead to suffering as an eventual war breaks out again. I like that they're in a happy place at the end of the series, and that is good enough for me.
The Haibane girls however, I do want to see more of. Pretty much entirely because of how fleeting their lives can be. At any moment they can be called to ascend, and then they're gone. It feels like their lives are so much more finite and up in the air than the wotos.
Lain just tries too hard, and didn't leave a large impression on me. Parts were cool though.

It's also unbelievably dry and boring, it's like taking an Advil PM in the morning

...

Nice reading comprehension.

Is there any OST more emotional than Haibane Renmei's? The closest comparison I can find is Spirited Away's summer and closing themes.

Let's replace masterfully woven into the narrative abstract symbolism with trumpets and tanks, such poesy, wow, nice.

At least Haibane's first part had more going on than just aimless cuteness + cookie-cutter character interactions. And it perfectly knew what it wanted to accomplish in the end.

Yes.

He's probably spending all his time playing Kancolle.

And being cute with his son.

I've watched Lain and Haibane, what should I watch next? Technolxyze? Heard that it's a bit heavy though.

You could watch Niea_7 if you want to feel like you've had a light, unrestful nap

ABe is one of my favorite artists but I don't think he's a very good storyteller.

Sounds perfect.

>We'll never get another ABe anime, let alone Despera.

The worst thing about Despera is not knowing. I know it's probably dead but without confirmation, I can't help but hope.

Oh right I need to finish the last volume of Ryuushika Ryuushika

Why the fuck lain's ost is so good
