How'd they manage to fuck up the anime so badly?
How'd they manage to fuck up the anime so badly?
Because they turned it into harem shit instead of just following the Agave route.
Not enough Maru-san.
this
Lack of best girl.
...
I liked it.
Harem good user.
They should have done the omnibus format or followed the Momoyo route.
I want a Yukie route
superb taste user
Miyako didn't get to have her way with him.
That girl with the bow was a total slut worst girl
What a Slut
w-wanko best girl

My wanko is more satisfying than yours

The anime was clearly not intended to be good. It was made as an advertisement for the VN. You watch it and think "yeah these girls are cute and it's kind of funny" and try out the VN. It worked on me so I can say it wasn't a bad idea.
Best girl coming through,
I'd rather they just made a whole original route instead of starting with the final battle, that just killed it.
But the Tsubame cameo was a good touch
Does this VN have something like two dozen potential heroines?

Well, I will be honest with you. Majikoi's plot is not particularly good, like, the quality of the work is not that great. There are no interesting themes, the situations and solutions are contrived, and character motivations are often ridiculous. Many of the routes are also flatly stupid.
Majikoi is enjoyable because you spend a lot of time with the characters, enjoy their silly but senseless adventures, and come to appreciate everyone's role in the story. The Agave route is also a very rewarding conclusion, but it really cannot be appreciated on its own and does require backstory (they literally work every single named character into it).
So, the anime does not get much to work with-- it gets only enough time to show Majikoi's weaknesses and cannot execute on its strengths. I do not know that omnibus would have been the better option here since some of the routes are just plain awful (literally, the girl's challenge is talking to a horse cell phone strap). They probably could have done a common route that also added some of the other events from a non-romance angle and then pushed forward to Agave... but even then I feel like Majikoi would suck if it were not an eroge.
The first one has 5 main heroines, 2 side heroines, and 2 others who aren't really heroines but have an h-scene.
This is tame compared to the sequels
