It is calculated (though I cant find the source on the web now, read it in some medievalist research paper in Polish) that over 50% of actual Western Balts physically survived Teutonic conquest and were just germanized. They were the majority in the countryside, especially in eastern parts of Prussia. That means that XVIII cent. Prussian peasant conscripts fighting for Frederic the Great were to a large degree Old Prussians, just unaware of their ethnic origins and with a strong new German Prussian identity.

So its not exactly true that German Prussians have nothing to do with Old Prussians except the name.

The Allied Control Council dismantled Prussia by decree and forbade its use, instead made Berlin and Brandenburg.

No, and aside from militarism there never really was a distinct Prussian culture (unless you're talking about the medieval Old Prussians from the Baltics). All these blue regions in your map had (and still have to some extent) regional cultures, and these regions were simply incorporated into the Prussian state by conquest. There are Frisians, Pomeranians, Rhinelanders, Brandenburgians, and there were East Prussians and Silesians (but those were quickly assimilated by other German subcultures when they were expelled from their homelands after WW2).

Its always sad listening to my grandmother tell stories of Prussia, and how she escaped. She and her mother had to walk two hundred miles in the dead of winter (father died in gulag after capture in Kiev), hounded by packs of hungry wolves and the ever present sound of approaching Russian artillery, to Konigsberg only to finally reach the city and get bombed by Russians. They had to dig themselves out of the rubble of a family member's basement by hand the next day and then walked another 50 miles to a nearby port to get on a overloaded refugee boat. However they had no food and the ship had run out of rations, and they only managed to survive thanks to a elderly couple that gave them their hidden food cache and starved to death instead. Most were not so lucky; many mothers that had no food threw themselves and their children overboard rather than starve slowly over the two week voyage.

It was all very necessary though, literally every German that stayed in her small town was murdered or raped. The Poles took over all their houses, businesses, farms and churches almost overnight, and renamed everything in Polish. Prussia only exists today as a historical footnote and as a story told to grandchildren.
