Greyscale for phones

What does Sup Forums think of the greyscale feature on their phones? It makes your phone like an e-reader, black/white/grey, saving your battery and supposedly curbing phone addiction.

Something to do with the dopamine we get from all the bright colours on our phones makes us more dependant on them.

Is this the way to free yourself from the technological beast?

Yes

I never realized ignoring the hue but not the saturation value saved so much power.

On my OnePlus its called "reading mode".
Pretty aesthetic

How do you turn it on

Never even knew about this

Search in your display settings. Reading mode or greyscale. Or google how to do it, most phones have it.

Mine doesn't make the screen grey. Doesn't appear to do anything, actually.

Don't own a phone.
How can I do this to my desktop?

>phone addiction.

Developer options - simulate colour space - monochromacy (on android)

>Is this the way to free yourself from the technological beast?
put down your phone faggot

It doesn’t it’s been tested. Greyscale/Black & white mode actually uses more battery because the phone still generates the colour images and then applies a filter on top. They have tested this in various YouTube tests

Thanks

I wish I could get a phone with a monochrome plasma display.
It would not be more efficient.
I don't care.

Depends on the phone. On amoled displays it saves power. On Iphone LCDs it doesnt.

Chromatic Austerity Pill. Nice. Only enjoying natural colours rather than synthetic simulations. Kind of like porn is to sex.

Okay that made a difference. Neat.

An interesting idea. There are plenty of pretty clickbaity articles about this online, but we can also think about it using some common sense. It's a fact that many mobile applications use the so-called slot machine effect to invoke impulsiveness and such in the user. Also the way your mind reacts to monochrome display sort of makes you concentrate and take everything more seriously, as opposed to colorful displays that set your brain towards the mood of leisure and entertainment (this is why official texts are always black on white, whereas advertisements are colorful). I don't personally use social media and I don't play games on my phone, so I wouldn't fully know about mobile app stuff though. Gonna try it anyway. To me smartphones are great tool because I don't waste my time on stuff I mentioned, but it'd still always be good to use phone a little less.

What OS?

Question:

What does this have to do with politics?

Addiction to technology is a major part of the modern political climate.

>everything is political
literally feminist logic

It's modern-day "Bread and circus".

nothing, it's a slide thread and dumbasses are falling for it hook, line, and sinker.

Societal issues are relevant for policy considerations. If this is an effective way to reduce phone use it has huge implications for the economy.
Fucking angry birds cost companies $1.5Billion in productivity.

Have there been any well designed studies on academic performance?

Not that guy but do you known how to on GNU/Linux

There are many apps that make this for you, most of them are just changing the color palette of your screen to eliminate the blue light that supposedly damages your eyes or something, but there are many with the greyscale feature. Search for "no blue light" or something at the store.

Not really. Technology makes you slightly more prone to guessing. But nothing comparing grayscale really. Even if its a placebo, Id rather save my dopamine for real life colours.

Just means more emo types will spend more time on their depressing phones and less time cutting themselves.

Politics is downstream from culture, if our culture is one of addiction and distraction from truth, then so to are our politics.

Politics is the study of human nature and interactions.

...

Simulate. aka use processing power to make all colors to bw. Slows your phone down.

This is how I do it
Simply and masonic

Dev mode>simulate color space> monochromacy

On my motor g4 plus

>
fuck u op
this made me realise my fetish for monochromatic colours

>saving your battery
This is not how an LCD works and if you for a moment thought so you should kill yourself

No, sorry. I'm stuck on Windows because of CAD work.

I meant in terms of cellphone usage/distraction and academic performance.

...

There's a program called RedShift. I don't know if it does greyscale but it can adjust the color temperature to remove the LED blue light that fucks with your brain, effectively doing what greyscale does.

What I tell people is that you may not be interested in politics, but politics are interested in you. Ignore it at your own risk.

Found out about this a few days ago and it's amazing. My phone is boring as fuck. I still have all the actual functionality but it's no longer a timesink. I was very prone to spending too much time on my phone and I realize not everyone is, but for me it's been great. Don't think I'm going back.
You're technically correct but you'll use it much less. I used to have to charge my phone halfway through the day and now I'll have 40% left by the end of the day.
You need third party software in unity, e.g. CCSM. Not sure about other DE's. Look here askubuntu.com/questions/657620/display-in-grayscale

the colors is not what gives us dopamine lol

on the iPhone in the accessibility settings page

>It makes your phone like an e-reader
It doesn't do that

Are you implying e-readers arent in greyscale? Obviously I didnt mean it changes your LCD display into an e-paper one.
So this is the intelligence of the Serb

nope maybe on eink display or amoled, they do save battery
