Your life was ruined by a mix of you being a shitty person and your parents being shitty parents. Atheism didn't ruin your life; you did. It just happens that atheism was vaguely involved in the root of the problem and religion was vaguely involved in the solution. If a regular person who just wanted to do good came up to you and offered you food and a place to stay so you could get back on your feet you wouldn't blame your failures on atheism. You just want something, anything to blame your failures on so that you don't have to accept that it was your fault, and the person who saved you influenced what that happened to be. I'm not saying Christianity is evil, I'm just saying that you really don't have a good reason to call atheism evil.

Well, in a world with a god, what is the point there? To be good so that you can get to heaven? Then what? You end up with the same problem. In a world without god, the point of living is to experience what you can in the limited time you have. An argument could be made to say that Christians waste their lives focusing on a future where they live in heaven and do whatever, not focusing on their lives. If anything, atheism makes you cherish life even more.

I was an atheist for longer than I'd like to admit, it was these kinds of threads that made me at first reject the fedora identity, but more so realize I was not content with atheism. I was so open to it, but kept hitting the wall with "real" faith. It's not a thing that's easy to overcome, like most here pride is a real blinder, i could never do it because it took real humility and having my pride shattered, broken... This is usually when the atheist I was would curse God, but instead I called out to Him and He was there. My experience was emotional, but it was as real and tangible as any proof I ever thought I required, the so called proof I always said I needed was in my reach the whole time I guess, but it took life pulling the rug out from under me to ever really seek God. Christ sparked a real faith in me that's never gone out since.

I will be honest, I am not a Christian in name (although I am deeply invested in God, and am in the process of exploring that relationship), and my intention is not necessarily to convert him, only to suggest that his biggest flaw at the moment is ignorance and intellectual hubris.

I wake up every day and try to improve myself, and I am not above reflection, but I am also not inclined to convince someone that learning is worthwhile and valuable.
