Anyway, the idea of 'color blind' used to be the primary argument pushed. "Hey, we're all human, get over it." Now, the narrative has changed to "Don't invalidate my racial/cultural identity!" The goalposts have legs and won't stop running, no matter what changes. The double standard issue is really starting to grate on people though. Historical context doesn't come into play when you feel like you're being attacked personally because of your race. There's also a huge strain of revenge running through a lot of movements like BLM that is only going to result in negative reactions and validating concerns about nonwhite "racism".

If you read the original book by Victor Hugo, Esmeralda was actually born a normal human white French-blooded girl named "Agnes" and was kidnapped by the gypsies who left Quasimodo in her place.
One of the main premises of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame is that Judge Frollo gets enchanted by Esmeralda because she's not like all the other Gypsies. She's a French girl who was kidnapped and raised by Gypsies.
This is actually an example of the harm of Disney propaganda. The movie makes you think gypsies are just travelling romantic bards like Esmeralda in the hunchback of the Notre Dame. To clarify, gypsies are an ethnic group that came to Europe after being exiled from India. Next they settled in Europe but never assimilated in any way and stuck with their medieval culture. Gypsies don't participate in any way in their host country and live only to leech. It has been this way for centuries. 95% of the gypsies (Romas as they call themselves) are unemployed and unwilling to work, they live entirely off theft and fraud.
So because of the Disney film you now have an entire generation brainwashed to think that Agnes from The Hunchback of Notre-Dame is brown, and not a French girl when that isn't the case at all, and that Gypsies are all good-natured, fun, easy-going, harmless, friendly people.
