If during the first season you'd told me there would be a million more seasons of Symphogear I'd have been pretty hyped, but I ended up dropping G halfway through and I never even tried the third one. Why does this of all things get so many seasons? Is it just music marketing?

I have to miss the livewatch due to work

Several reasons. Being cynical:
One is that, since it has the promotional aspect, Symphogear has another source of profit other than merchandise and BDs, meaning KR makes more money off of Symphogear than they'd make of most other projects, and Symphogear can stay profitable even though it's an anime-original property. Not to mention the possibility of making Symphogear events like lives.
It's also a great venue to promote the idols and Seiyuus working on it, since they can display a huge range. Symphogear has dramatic scenes, intense action scenes, singing, all of it wrapped in a single show. Minase Inori got her musical debut in GX if I am not mistaken.
It's also a surprisingly good seller. It's an anime-original series that got 3 seasons and the third season, GX, was even summer 2015's top seller by a country mile.
Now speaking as a fan of the series, It's just a load of fun and Chris is best girl.
The action scenes for the most part are cool, or inventive, or both. Chris does gun kata at some point, Hibiki suplexes a space shuttle, all of Hibiki's kung fu is actually traced from real people, Tsubasa is loads of fun with making swords rain, pop out of the ground, making a huge sword shield, etc.
Also, the staff look like they have so much fun, they put references and other fun things in the anime all the time. Like Tsubasa being asked to draw a noise, and then it turns out her drawing is a drawing Nana(her Seiyuu) made in an event. Or Chris goin "Yassai Mossai" or "Chossei!"

Managed to get GX done yesterday as well. You guys weren't kidding when you said it was shit, not only did it lack the moderate sense of balance I felt between the protagonists and antagonists that both previous seasons had (it was great seeing the antagonists getting their shit pushed every so often, in comparison GX felt like the protagonists were playing catch-up with Carol and her dolls all the fucking time) and their crazy pacing as well but Hibiki also spent most of the season moping around and didn't punch anywhere nearly enough things. Also the villains were dumb as fuck.
And I want to fuck Chris and Kirika.

The biggest kick in the ball was the better part of Carol dying
I rewatched S1 and G in 2 days and loved them again a little bit more than ever, while I have GX downloaded but I've yet to start it, I actually don't want to suffer though it again.

I like to think Carol is inside Elf9 and will come out at some point.

The villains were great, it was just a shame how they were handled.
