Has there EVER been a live-action adaptation of an anime that wasn't a complete fucking disaster?

Edge of Tomorrow
That was quick
>tom cruise movie
>not complete shit
Pick one.
It's almost like this conversation has happened over, and over, and over. We find a conclusion to the argument, only to wake up the next day to start the argument all over again.
That's not an anime you fkcuing idot
That is the best casting choice they could've made.
That's why I posted it.
Everything else confuses the fuck out of me, though.
Akagi was fine, uzumaki too
Nips can actually do good live action adaptations of their own shows.
It only turns complete shitshow when roundeyes attempt it.
Oldboy was an amazing film
>japanese live action movie
Yeah senpai their theatre industry is a fucking joke
The only good nip one I can think of is Ichi the Killer, and that's based on manga, not anime.
I can't wait until the day some classic anime with entry-level waifus gets americanized, like Evangelion, and Asuka becomes a sassy black woman.
Just imagine the reaction.
Fuck you Cruise is based.
edge of tomorrow is fucking great what are you talking about?
It's based off All You Need is Kill
And that's a manga, not an anime.
The only correct answer.
youtu.be
Yes, I know its loosely based on manga instead of an anime - but its telling something that the quality of the adaptation depends on the adaptor's willingness to present something that are actually great even with loose adaptation, instead of souless cash-grabs capitalizing on existing fanbase.
Not a fan of Cruise or the original manga but Edge of tomorrow is awesome.
Action movie done right.
>grasping at straws
op didn't mean only anime and if he did hes just dumb. anime is normally adapted from manga.
>hasn't watched Vanilla Sky, which is clearly superior to the original Spanish version
What a pleb.
Honestly, American Netflix Death Note might not even be as bad as the recent TV drama of Death Note.
Detroit Metal City
I saw the trailer. It didn't look like complete shit but I'm not going to hold my breath either.
That's a light novel though.
Rurouni Kenshin
Hentai Kamen is quite good
That was actually a really great movie though. Not sure how you could hate on it. Didn't even have a lot of hype behind it.
Speed Racer
Rurouni Kenshin
Like Death Note?
underrated post
Yeah, I don't expect it to be good, but my point was the Death Note TV drama was a catastrophe.
Yes
Interview with the vampire is literally Blood+
Man, the fucking hollywood-style action and nigger-L is too much for me. I wouldn't mind a black L if he spoke like a normal person, but he just sounds like a fucking thug
Is that Kevin Bacon?
>Code Geass but the Elevens are niggers
Nah that's Nick Nolte
Ghost in the shell was pretty good.
Dragonball
Best comedy of our generation
from a manga but Old Boy.
its far better than the manga as well.
Gee, it's almost like more than two people browse one board. Isn't that fact simply bewildering?
L is probably the most beloved character in Death Note so I'd say that was already a pretty big "fuck you". Though, yeah, Afrogirl Asuka would be something to see.
Great no but it's definitely one of the rare american blockbusters that I enjoyed watching. The ending was terrible tho, really a shame that they didn't stick with the source ending. The Alien designs were also disapointing. But overall an enjoyable movie.
Keep that garbage to yourself.
The exception that proves the rule.
Plenty. It's just that ones that need to use special effects are more likely to end up as misses than hits.
Hongo is built a little too small to really be Akagi but the j-drama was pretty great. The Nana movies are good.
>Hentai Kamen
I love it.
Does he? I remember too little of the trailer to notice, but I also don't care enough to rewatch it.
Kuragehime live action was charming and fun.
Speed Racer
quite enjoyable and perfect adaptation of an anime's style into the big screen.
There's been loads of them for decades, but very few people outside Japan have ever heard of them.
The American Death Note shouldn't have been made as an adaptation of the original but have been it's own story set in the same world. The manga already makes it clear that the death note has interfered in human history many times before, so it'd make sense if there was one that dropped in America. But trying to shove elements of the original story into an altered setting and characters would just be jarring and seem completely out of place. It would've been best if they came up with an original story that captured the identity and ideas of the original instead of superficial lifting certain aspects into something else.
transformers
Ghost in the Shell was alright.
>Pork in Taco Bell was terrible*
FTFY.
this shit right here
just see the movie as a new death note dropped in the human world (burguerland to be precise)
Wangan Midnight movie is a fucking masterpiece. Low budget but so fun.

Dafoe is smiling because he gets money and a perfect casting choice.
The only reason I'm upset about this turd is because it's such a waste of Ryuk Dafoe.
Except they have that big KIRA written in candles.
You mean a western adaptation
is a kira return kek
>starring fran drescher as asuka
I'd watch it
>Nipponese live action adaptions
>Nippon movie anything
Man, their movies are shit.
What would you suggest they do then?
Go back to Formula?
Speed Racer is a legitimately great and massively underrated movie. One of my favorites.
>The story starts with Light in Highschool but quickly switches to college and the actual workplace.
>The live-action is probably going to stay in high-school for most of the movie's runtime.
Why do people bitch so much about anime being stuck in School when Americans love highschool shit just as much as Japs. The only difference is that all American highschools are apparently filled with drugs and sex.
Nobody ever mentions Mushishi
