After the slump that was this winter, and the only show that I cared about last year being Kagewani Shou in the spring and Thunderbolt Fantasy. I just gave up on anime and worked through my back catalog. But please, pretend that you're oh so clever calling someone a summerfag.

Nigga, you don't remember, but there were fucking drama over using spanish colloquialisms in their subs, especially for AU, who ironically was an spanish group. More recently there are fags complaining about honorifics, and purity of the spanish language or some shit like that.

I personally don't get it either. It is just general internet drama that happens with any of these groups I suppose. I hate it when it leads to the detriment of the scene itself though, as when they banned Doki from Nyaa for personal reasons. And creating a culture were memesubs are OK isn't good either.

A translation that is wrong on purpose for any reason at all is unacceptable. Everyone involved knows that the meaning of the language could have been conveyed in a better way, and the quality suffers for it. In this case, it isn't the quality of the translation that is the problem, but what could have been the quality of the translation that is the problem.

Most anime dialogue is written in a format such that it most closely matches the spoken word. Seeing phrases that are never spoken in the most common context, such as "my sides" or saying "af" when they mean "as fuck", is incredibly grating. It's like seeing a memespouter in real life.

The only situation where seeing such terminology in a translation is acceptable is when translating text (messages, BBS, etc.)

That seems like a lot to ask for, subbers don't seem mature or concerned with the intent of the original language at all. They want to use their favorite words, sometimes outright reinterpreting the dialogue.

I think they are, there's always been a segement of the fansub scene with shady translation ethics, and I think that segment has grown since we got spoiled by the CR subs. Most people want the quantity and speed first, so quality was/is suffering.
Do people still post that they are 'waiting' for a certain group to sub it? I haven't seen that in awhile, but I remember people saying that they're going to wait for a more serious sub-group instead of just watching GG or something. Those days are numbered.
