Take a look at the first one. She's clearly not acting like the real Tomoko here, but an idealized Tomoko who can actually remember her name and cares about her feelings. She's probably pissy because Tomoko doesn't give a fuck about her. On that page, she's intentionally bringing up a time when Tomoko stopped talking to her when she was in the middle of a sentence.

She's one-half pissed at Tomoko and one-half wants to stop being ignored. That scene where she was in the dark was both. She was openly inviting Tomoko to talk to her, but also mad because of the incident at lunch.

The fanged bitch bullies Yuri, so she enjoyed the insult.

It's not a character assassination. It's more a look at two characters taking different routes through life. Both had neet tastes and aspirations although Tomoko's fantasies about becoming popular typically revolve around being sexually appealing but we don't really see what nemo thinks so it's hard to gauge. It's kind of a critique on society since even when she fantasizes about being smart to get popular, her fantasy self-image is large breasted with a short skirt.

Anyway, Tomoko has traversed the phase where she's realised that the things she used to worry about are trivial and meaningless to the point where her fantasy of going back and repeating it to be popular would tire her out and she's happy being a loner. She gets headpatted and doesn't freak out or think anything of it beyond her old self would have went crazy over it.

Nemo, however, is a social conformist denying her own ambition, interests and betraying her friends so she can be "popular".

That's what the series is ultimately critiquing though. Tomoko has friends. Nemo does not. Tomoko is content with herlsef. Nemo is not. Who really is the biggest loser here?

But she didn't change. She fantasized about many things, NEET simply being one of them. She's an average or slightly above average achiever, she's athletic and she has days where she's cute. The people who interact with her accept her for who she is. She isn't the centre of attention and she realised herself that she doesn't actually want that.

This attitude isn't actually different to how she originally was. She called the girls who went to karaoke sluts and bimbos at the beginning, now she doesn't care. In a way she's retained her true identity and isn't any worse off for it as she has decent relations with people while Nemo has shallow relations.
