Most European countries have pretty much undeployable armies. Germany had 5,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and led the North command, but countries like Hungary or Estonia had like 20 soldiers there.
NATO is just a building. A building where countries agree what to do in war. The EU army would be about spending, procurement, cooperation and deployability.

As said above, we need deployable forces. What if big daddy Trump doesn't want to come to our rescue in a year or two? What if we have to invade Libya? What if we can't even scrape together 50,000 soldiers for such an invasion?

myth, the G36 is a great weapon. H&K said the rifle was not designed for sustained, continuous fire. German soldiers gave no negative feedback. Operational commanders advised allowing the weapon to cool between periods of rapid shooting.
i havent fired it so i cant say what its actually about. i've read about an weapon ingenieur that works at h&k who warned years ago the front (Lauf) is melting during permanent fire.
I know a girl at H&K and she says all the media reports are bs. This is also why courts threw the case out quite fast, saying H&K doesn't have to pay dime to the German government and is in complete and full fulfillment of its contract.
I think if the G36 were as crappy and shit as people allege, my guess is they would have had to pay damages due to breach of contract.

I as an American patriot am 100% in support for Europe building its own military power, even competing with the US and Russia if possible. So long as the sovereignty of each nation is protected.
i think taking that step will take some time. althought the europeanarmys worke very intensive together, they even havea meet up once a year where they mess in a friendly enviroment. the problem are the many small countries in europe wichseperate themselves from the other by language culture and ideologicy and every nation thinks it's the best
