Can we have a thread about Scanlating/Typesetting?
I've been trying to learn how to do it and it really is quite difficult. It took days for the first doujin. Most of the time went redrawing all the shit underneath text and not just whiteboxing it.
I'm curious, how much does good typesetting affect your enjoyment of manga? Have you tried Scanlating or Typesetting? What are the best resources for learning good typesetting, and what's the best way to improve?

Why do people even bother deforming the text? In a pointless attempt to fill up the bubbles?
Hudson Scott
Ah yes, the anti-ripper .gif watermark release. Does anyone still do this?
Samuel Richardson
The fuck is this atrocity

Scanlation group drama.

>Most of the time went redrawing all the shit underneath text and not just whiteboxing it. Honestly, I believe free fan scanlations shouldn't bother too much with redrawing. If it takes more than 5-10 minutes you're doing too much. Just paint white over the text (better than whiteboxing imo) and slap the translation on top. As long as it's readable and you use a good font, the readers will understand. And if they don't, let them learn Japanese.

Doing the Lord's work.
>how much does good typesetting affect your enjoyment of manga?
A lot, considering if the font type and size is what helps me read the manga.
> Have you tried Scanlating or Typesetting? Yeah, I used to be a cleaner too, but quit because too much drama bullshit. It's like you go in with pure intentions and come out dreading the fucking world because a few people decided they deserved a fucking medal for wanting to share manga in a readable way and build a fandom in the west.

I typeset my first doujin. My friends and I are attempting to do more over time. Can I get some general feedback/assistance?
I still need experience typesetting, any of you guys need help?
Jaxon Ward
I looked through it all and I thought it was pretty good
Austin Scott
If people used even a slight bit of common sense in typesetting the whole scene would improve so much.
Logan Scott
You're complaining about the typesetting before the translation there?
Grayson Taylor
Try to keep a better white margin around the text, never touching the bubble if you can avoid it. Your text size doesn't need to be huge, people can read it just fine. Aim to have the center of the text dead center in the bubble.
Landon Ross
Thanks. How was the redrawing? It was the brickwall/floor in the second half's cumshot and the hair/glove on the last real page of the first half. Does it look okay?
Benjamin Powell
I think I just got stockholm syndromed since their old translator was, if you can believe it, MUCH worse.
Austin Richardson
why is there a random heart on page 26? did you forget to turn on/off the layer? Box on the left is supposed to be blank? redrawing looks fine especially for retarded filtered images those are the ones that make you regret picking it up in the first place.
Ayden Anderson
Still no BookWalker DeDRM? With them having exclusive shit now, it's kind of a hassle. Also, thanks to the user who went through the trouble to give us this by actually doing it the hard way.

>touching the bubble if you can avoid it Touching the bubble or filling the bubble is fine if the original text touched or filled the bubble on accord of the character screaming.
TF made a series of guides everyone typesetting should read.
Levi Nguyen
I don't pay attention, I just read the text and look at whatever of the drawings
Jayden Morris
Looks great, mate. I agree with but otherwise it's a top notch scanlation.
Jacob Davis
As I've said before, at least that version of the watermark is still somewhat readable.
Asher Bell
>Page 12: "Hora" Did you leave it like that as a joke? If that was a mistake, then yeah, just pay a little more attention to that kind of stuff I guess.
>Page 22: "A sorcer // er's" I'd personally go with "A // sorcerer's", or maybe "A sor // cerer's"
>Page 27: "Ahh... cumming inside my mother" I think you should lower the vertical spacing (leading) a little. This is pretty minor and pretty subjective.
>Kamui, Shara >Tharja, Noire Don't mix English and Japanese names.

How do you typeset well? Read and understand what you're actually putting on a page.
