I've been trying to learn how to do it and it really is quite difficult. It took days for the first doujin. Most of the time went redrawing all the shit underneath text and not just whiteboxing it.
I'm curious, how much does good typesetting affect your enjoyment of manga? Have you tried Scanlating or Typesetting? What are the best resources for learning good typesetting, and what's the best way to improve?

Honestly, I believe free fan scanlations shouldn't bother too much with redrawing. If it takes more than 5-10 minutes you're doing too much. Just paint white over the text (better than whiteboxing imo) and slap the translation on top. As long as it's readable and you use a good font, the readers will understand. And if they don't, let them learn Japanese.

A lot, considering if the font type and size is what helps me read the manga.

Yeah, I used to be a cleaner too, but quit because too much drama bullshit. It's like you go in with pure intentions and come out dreading the fucking world because a few people decided they deserved a fucking medal for wanting to share manga in a readable way and build a fandom in the west.

You're complaining about the typesetting before the translation there?
Try to keep a better white margin around the text, never touching the bubble if you can avoid it. Your text size doesn't need to be huge, people can read it just fine. Aim to have the center of the text dead center in the bubble.
Thanks. How was the redrawing? It was the brickwall/floor in the second half's cumshot and the hair/glove on the last real page of the first half. Does it look okay?
I think I just got stockholm syndromed since their old translator was, if you can believe it, MUCH worse.
why is there a random heart on page 26? did you forget to turn on/off the layer? Box on the left is supposed to be blank? redrawing looks fine especially for retarded filtered images those are the ones that make you regret picking it up in the first place.

Touching the bubble or filling the bubble is fine if the original text touched or filled the bubble on accord of the character screaming.

I don't pay attention, I just read the text and look at whatever of the drawings
Looks great, mate. I agree with but otherwise it's a top notch scanlation.
As I've said before, at least that version of the watermark is still somewhat readable.

I think you should lower the vertical spacing (leading) a little. This is pretty minor and pretty subjective.

How do you typeset well? Read and understand what you're actually putting on a page.
