That's just it. They're a cash cow designed to draw in fans who heard the show is well regarded, but can't be fucked to sit through it because it's 26 episodes long and "old". Not much of what makes NGE great is packed into these films, although I'll admit the soundtracks can be pretty great at times.

It had an idiot plot. It required everyone to act out of character and as an idiot for the plot to happen.

Plus Mari is one of the worst characters ever.

Let me lay out for you just one of the many issues with the movie. Let's focus on one of the many characters who were required to be an idiot for the plot to work. Let's talk Misato.

Misato spent the first two movies + off screen time with Shinji. In that time she learned some very basic things about him. If you treat him nicely, he'll do whatever you want. Conversely, if you treat him horribly, he will shut down and not listen. It's literally one of his fucking defining character traits. So what does she do when they get him in the beginning of 3? Locks him in a cell, explains NOTHING to him, and treats him like shit. If she weren't an idiot, she would know that's the ONE WAY to get him to NOT do what she wanted. And don't give me that crap about "she blames him for what happened". Do you remember what happened at the end of the second movie? That's right, Misato was cheering him on, telling him to rescue Rei no matter what, even if the entire world was against him.

Again, this is just ONE aspect of the movie that makes no god damn sense. There are so many of them I don't have time to waste typing them all out. It's got the plot of a Michael Bay movie. You can like it because it has pretty colors and shit, but don't pretend that it was well written.

Misato and crew were all going to be tried for allowing 3rd impact to happen, but nerv went on the defensive and abandoned Misato and crew.
Now that the world was destroyed even worse Misato creates wunder and collects people who survived the 3rd impact, and doesn't tell them they were apart of nerv in fact tells them who caused the 3rd impact and shinji was resposible. So they use him as a scape goat to get people to trust them to fight off Nerv. 14 years later they have kept this act and when talking to shinji they act like they hate him for the security camera and the new crew'crew's sake. They also probably hate Shinji for the 3rd impact any ways but thats a feeble excuse.

All she had to do was EXPLAIN things to him. Are you telling me there was never any way for her to do that? Slip him a note? Get someone else to tell him? Toji's sister seemed like she was willing to be nice to him. Literally ANYTHING said to him would have prevented the entire movie. "Hey Shinji, your dad is being evil and trying to destroy the world. We need you to hang here and not do anything while we figure this out. Oh and I'm sorry but you failed to rescue Rei. They made a clone of her. Sorry."

chill man, shinji was a wild card they couldn't loose, they were tieing him down and not telling him the truth. It was stupid in my opinion but that seems to be their logic behind it all. If they did tell him he go ape shit and trigger another impact, at least that's what they think. Misato isn't known for making the best decisions.

It's pretty safe to assume that Eva 13 is based on Lilith like Unit 1 was right? Since the Angel in unit 6 and Kaoru is what causes 4th impact and that seems to be the cause of the other impacts in the series, that would make sense wouldn't it? That seemed like the plan, and that Gendo wasn't really assuming 4th would actually go off that time. Though I don't quite get how Kaoru gets "demoted" to being the 13th angel down from the 1st. Seemed like it involved him "ascending" in some way to stop 4th from happening and that's why the collar killed him, but honestly I'm not sure since I've only seen 3.0 twice and I feel like I need to watch it again to put some pieces together.
