Regretting sound effects exist
and that I figured I'd clean them all off and now have to stick with it for the rest of the volume

Come on, user. Just ignore them.

Don't alter the sound effects, they're part of the artwork. Just provide a little fx note next to them.

My fellow scanlators who do it for free, remember that the perfect is the enemy of the good.

You don't need to slave yourselves and waste time on stuff nobody will ever notice. If you need to crank down the grays to 0.1 to see the dust and imperfections, then that is not worth cleaning.

Want to get into scanlation again, but dunno if I feel like hanging out on irc again. Is there any fun project with just a dropbox who needs a cleaner/typesetter? I can pretty much do everything except translate, proofread and QC'ing the text.

I figured I wanted to be consistent with it for the rest of the volume, I'm halfway through at this point anyways. It's probably the biggest time-eater in the process for me, so it's going to go eventually.
Also, how does one rip from HJ? Is there a script or something I can get a name or github to?

Drama and egomaniacs that infest scanlation groups like ticks, user-kun. That is what I am working on.

>groups

Found your problem

Let me know if you find this mythical beast...

this apparently took 12+ hours, how does that make you feel?

>vertical text
>grand

Feels like somebody wasted their time.

If anyone has free time:
no one is translating Fire Force (from the same guy who did Soul Eater)
You can get the raws from the digital version so very few cleaning / redrawing required.

nyaa.si/?f=1&c=3_3&q=weekly shonen magazine

mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=126173

12? On that single page?
I haven't seen the raw, but it looks like something you could get to "acceptable" levels in 1-2 hours, and even a perfectionist shouldn't need more than like 3-4.

i don't want to be mean, but that is kind of hard to read

This, honestly. It's pretty difficult to read thanks to the varying sizes of the letters and the words are too close to even say the spaces worked. ItSlIKerEAdInGtHiS.

Oh, did this get dropped? I figured the guy doing it was just taking longer than usual.

Here's the raw

That definitely doesn't look like something that'd take 12 hours to clean and redraw. I call bullshit on your previous post.

There's this You'd need to contact the translator on Batoto or Discord because he always liked to TL check the pages after they've been typesetted.

the last release was more than a month ago (47d ago), it's a weekly series.
it has stopped before, but i don't think it ever stopped for this long.

Yeah, I can't see anyone taking 12 hours on that, unless it's their first time redrawing.
If it actually took them that long, they really should have typeset first.

My bad. Apparently 3 pages of these type of edits took 12 hours according to the group.

They even skipped a chapter to put this chapter out.

see

>your
That wasn't my post, I just thought I'd post the raw page. I agree with you, even 3 of these pages shouldn't took as much as 12 hours.

the vertical text is too close together and the all caps make it hard to read.
i'm just a reader, though, i never done shit in translation.

That's more believable, but still on the long side.

I guess it depends on the redrawer's skill.

Continuing on, yeah, the inconsistent sizes and vertical text combined with the serifs on that font make it pretty hard to read. Rule of thumb is that English is read horizontally, so you should try to keep it horizontal save for extreme cases (this isn't one).
>We Will
>everything else is allcaps

Scanlators are shitty drama queens and half the time you are better at cleaning than at translating.

I can forgive them for typesetting the lyrics vertically (although I probably wouldn't, personally), but the horrible execution on top really does kill it.

So the other half are better at translating than at cleaning?
Sounds like a good fit.

k

it changed groups a bunch of times

mangaupdates.com/releases.html?search=126173&stype=series

The SoJammy guy who did the last chapter has an account on both batoto and >reddit you can try contacting him through to see what kind of purgatory the chapter's sitting in. It's a pretty generic shounen series but not bad in my opinion.

>submitted 1 day ago by SoJammy

>Looking for a redrawer for Fire Brigade of Flames

>As the title says... my current redrawer is on holiday so this is just a temporary duty (unless you'd want to continue helping which would be great). There are currently 8 chapters we need to catch up on.

>If you're interested or know someone who might be please get in contact with me as I'd really like if we could start pushing out these chapters again!

How can people actually manage to do shit low quality scans? Scanning is literally a simple as putting a piece of paper on glass.

What resolution will that be released at?

I think they chose to use vertical text, because the English parts of the song were written like than in the raw. However, I have no idea why they thought mixing uppercase and lowercase like that would be a good idea. Sorry for the shitty screenshot

3000px, obviously.

Ah, well it looks like the mixed case also comes from following that example.
Still doesn't really excuse the illegibility of it though.

Forget the second part of my post. The author did the same some pages later.

Bless you. I was fearing you'd say something like 1600 or 2000.

I think it's usually a hardware issue.
There's one provider for pubraws that consistently has a line running through the images at this particular spot because his bulb or something is fucked. The other is that said scanner applies filters and just muddies entire pages.

I would've set the previous lyrics in another font (and horizontally) anyways. In my opinion, legibility trumps imitating the original page's stylistic choices.

I still feel like there could have been a way to do it better. Like others said, it's annoyingly hard to read.

playing league now but I'll checked it out soon, thanks!

>half the time
I'd say 90% of the time, even when the cleaning is done poorly. Groups really need better standards for whom they let work as translators.

porn dialogue is mind numbingly boring to translate

Then don't.

>translating porn
You brought this on yourself.

You lie in the bed you make.

Would anyone consider scanning Aoi Honoo? Given how popular the J-Drama was, I'm surprised only one chapter has been scanned.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

It has unbelievably massive text dumps every chapter, no one's going to translate those.

A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

"Make your bed, now lie in it" actually makes sense in context, it's not just a random idiom.
pls no bully

A nod is as good as a wink.

should I replace all the porn dialogue with random unrelated idioms?

If the shoe fits, wear it.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Can't judge a book by its cover.

>this is the raw

Can any kind user with the ebj ripper script share it in a timed pastebin?

Looking for editor for Rokudenashi Blues.
delinqanon at gmail (dot) com

Holy shit, you're looking for yet another editor? How many has that series killed already? I remember you posting this question here some months ago.

I dont know if it was me a few months ago but I still havent got one. It's a really easy to edit series though. It took me an hour for 2 chapters but I have a million of other series to translate so I'd like for someone else to edit it at least.

Read "meme queen"

>that consistently has a line running through the images at this particular spot because his bulb or something is fucked.

I really hate that shit and it seems to be a common problem with scanners, even HQ ones suffer from this.

Yosh needs an editor for loli train, please help

What kind of quality do you want? Manual dust removal or just some leveling? Redraws? Background pattern repair?

>series gets licensed
>translations is shitty and filled with stupid localizations
>doesn't get picked up again and we're stuck with shitty releases
why does this happen

Post examples

I literally just ran some actions that an user gave me a long time ago for another series when I did the last 2 chapters. As long as it looks nice and the text is redrawn (covered) is all I care about. I just want to be able to dump translations and let someone else work on it on their own pace. I'm not looking for much.

pastebin.com/vJsgsDkP
Here you go lad. Make sure you read the tips in the code too.

What is the problem?

It's like 1am here and I haven't done anything in a while so I would have to download photoshop and stuff before I can give it a try. But feel free to contact me on e-mail or in the next scanlation thread and I can at least help out, can't promise I'll stay and do THAT many chapters but even 5-10 is better than nothing, right? anonscan at gmail

Waiting on my typesetter.

Alright, I'll send you an email tomorrow. Thanks man. I just want to get it going

Works great, thanks a ton user! I can start on a new series next week now.

Just make it up as you go

Souldn't be within 24 hours because it will be kept in the archives.in. like this archive.is/qbaWG

Cool, here is some HxH I cleaned and typeset in '12 or so. Used to have a lot of complicated redraws and shit on my computer but everything is gone.

This is not really anything complicated but only to show you that I can place the text nicely.

The leading on that hurts.

Not the Rokudenashi guy, but the leading is a bit high, and I think you wrap the text too aggressively in spots. Like yeah, the blockiness is pretty and all, but the unnecessary hyphenation hurts readability more than uneven lines would.
/opinion

Yeah it's kind of much but that's not hard to decide whatever is needed fontwise. Was more thinking about placement and splitting the lines and all. It's a really old release and I don't plan to do anything with it again since Viz released it digitally.

Typesetting expert here. Yes, the leading is too high. As for the hyphenation, I don't have a problem with it and it personally does not affect my reading experience, but those bubbles are wide enough to fit all the text without hyphenating anything, so you should do just that.
Remember that my opinion is objectively right.

Yeah, just something to keep in mind for the future. Remember that you can always adjust it manually, usually setting it to be the same as the font size +/- a few pixels will look best.

You know I just made these expire so jcafe tards wouldn't have as much of a chance to grab it. But hey, I can't stop you man.

Does anyone know if there is a list of recommended hentai fonts anywhere?

Why would you ever fiddle with the leading? Most of the time the default leading is fine.
My only problems with leading so far have been due to 2 fonts: Boogaloo and DS Marker. Everything else just werks and looks good.
Same goes for kerning. The default kerning the author has given the glyph pairs looks good most of the time, so there's no need to change it to optical.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions

The same fonts as for everything else

Any fags want to typeset/clean some BL? I have a oneshot from Syundei and Fujitobi.

Make up your own dialogue, it's not like any of the retards reading it will know the difference.

Question to cleaners: how much dust is acceptable?

How much genocide is acceptable?

>grand you the key

Hey I'm like half done damn it.

Just let me finish Sentou Hakai

All of the ones I don't notice. Which is apparently a lot
