the presentation of the anime is quite unique, it uses lots of cuts into panels with words, and the stuff going on in the background is very stylized. The show even to a degree lies about what is really happening since it is mostly dialog between friends, where peoples emotions are portrayed via the character AND what is going on on screen at the time.

Weird ecchi harem with bantz, surrealism, and once in a while a graphic disembowelment.

It's not just a weird ecchi harem show, it's a artsy, well directed, well written, tasteful ecchi harem show with lots of supernatural entities and witty banter.

There are a couple of ways of thinking about it that make it palatable, beside "lol she's a ghost anyway", like how he gets called out for it and his sister threatens to cut his dick off later in a similar situation, how it's really a character study of the female characters and them and they can do whatever they want with that in mind, and underaged boys still in highschool (you kind of forget he's that young) don't really know what they like yet and the fact that all age groups are represented in his 'harem' is just an expression of uncertain sexuality. But you have to like the show and want to enjoy it to bother thinking about it that much, otherwise it's pretty fucking creepy.

Remember, Tsukihi's phoenix is just a glorified cuckoo.

there's a part in this that's supposed to say something like, it's really a character study of the girls and not Araragi and understanding their relationships to sexuality is part of their character development, where Araragi is just a sounding board, or a stand-in for any generic guy and he's only useful as long as he plays the role opposite whatever it is they're doing. It's like he's a part of the scenery
