Back then the Jesus movement was still a Jewish cult; whereas, Paul the Apostle made the first real separation between early Christianity and Judaism which is why the word Catholic is derived from the Koine word kathilokos meaning ‘universal’ meaning you don’t have to convert to Judaism to believe in Jesus’s teachings pretty much. Jesus started the Jesus movement and laid the foundations for Catholicism the church came into its own through man’s ideas and their interpretation of his works not just from the teachings of Jesus there were plenty more ideas and beliefs peppered into Catholicism by ordinary men. Martin Luther sought to bring the word the teachings of Jesus to the common people who sought salvation only through the Catholic Church and not directly through the teachings of Jesus. Catholic services were performed in Latin which only the educated would be able to understand, so Martin Luther brought common people closer to the actual words and teachings of Jesus written in the Bible and not just finding salvation through the church.
