In a year in which the #MeToo movement has exposed the rampant predatory behavior of men, a holiday that celebrates the sexual predation of women and the emotional manipulation of romantic relationships has no place.
Each year the commercialization of Valentine's Day glorifies rape culture, romanticizes the sexual gratification of men, and justifies the predatory nature of 'courtship' and 'love' and it's detrimental effects on women. In the year 2018, it is time we recognized that Valentine's Day, a day named after a white, privileged, Christian man, has no place in a progressive society.
That is why we are calling on all warriors for social justice to #EndValentinesDay, a holiday that celebrates rape culture and the patriarchal nature of romantic love. Take to social media and spread the word.
