The 90's ended

90s were space. 00s were school.

Now is the age of iskei

Moeshit happened.

Although why we can't have moeshit in space instead of school is beyond me.

Got you covered OP, here's a modern take of Outlaw Star

Nerds whine and bitch and harass the fuck out of the staff while sales tanked because nobody like whining and bitching in their entertainment when the Internet, a free medium, is chockful of that.
It's become obvious that sci-fi had become the genre of choice for whiny PoS to lecture everyone how shit society is and naturally few enjoy that and are willing to pay anything for that kind of drivel. Even Gundams get by with less lecturing, more relationships and more toys merchandising.
Same as Macross once the creators realized few willing to pay to listen to people bitching how shit real life is, something their western counterparts still haven't realize yet.

Everyone enjoy character dramas, battles and adventures while exploring new stuff so while spaceshit tanks, fantasy adventures prosper until today.

TLDR; few going to pay to be lectured by faggots who populated space settings.

Isekai is nowhere near idolshit, yuribait and fujobait.

It got cheaper to render things more complicated than an empty black void.

This really needs another season.

>There used to be so many series happening in space. What happened?
Have you tried looking at the actual numbers?
How many space series aired at a given point in the 90s and how aired at a recent point?

Moeshit always existed. It's like you haven't seen anything from the 80's.

Moeshit doesn't exist, so it couldn't have happened.

Yuribait and fujobait don't exist either.

Could have been, if they had toned down the school antics and gone space adventuring on a grander scale. I wish the school setting had been left behind after the first half.

Got full up, no more space.

You delusional motherfucker.

You are the delusional one if you think any of those things are real.

It, like you, got old.

space got old?

Technically, every series happens in space.

Anime about bounty hunters in space got old. Space Dandy is made for people like OP. It's now a nostalgia market. The genre's dead.

Its the rare case where when they strayed from the source material, the show became amazing. iirc everything from ep 20 and onward was anime only, so all the actual crazy fights and the movie was the staff going 'lets do a goddamn space pirate show'

I don't think he specified bounty hunters.

A lot of people don't like sci if these days.

New Season for Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom >> oxvo.info/phantom-requiem-for-the-phantom-season-2/

Trends change all the time. With a new Star Wars movie every year you can bet space anime will return.

I fucking wish

Fuck those people

Space Patrol Luluco is recommended for anyone who enjoyed Legend of Galactic Heroes.

No it won't, especially when the new Star Wars look more like a flashier Call of Duty LP video than a space movie.

Yamato, The Jetsons, Gundam, Harlock, Defenders of Earth, Transformers, Macross, Star Wars, and Star Trek. During the era around the Space Race there was a certain optimism in art and culture. "By the year 2010 all wars will be ended, and no one will be hungry, and science will carry us into the far reaches of space!". It was a time where superweapons were at the forefront of public consciousness (nukes), so giant robots powered by nuclear engines and the like, fighting vicious wars in space were a reflect of the fear of the Cold War at the same time.

This changed in the late 90s/early 2000s, particularily after 9/11. Terrorism became a fear of all people, we had entered the 21st century but still no flying cars, AIDs epidemic in Africa, Chinese killing babies, etc etc. Pop culture began to reflect this in a shift from optimistic settings to ones of apocalypse. The fears of nuclear war, disease (zombies), and ecological catastrophe bombarded people every day.

Fantasy (in the form of isekai) is coming back specifically because the world continues to be scary for many people, so much that they'd rather run away to a world of adventure and beauty.

That's why no more space shows. No one believes humans will make it that far anymore.

Gunbuster 3 when?

The manga series is still ongoing and it's still pretty damn glorious.

>That's why no more space shows. No one believes humans will make it that far anymore.
There have been several space movies made in America recently (Interstellar and The Martian at least), and space exploration, travel and colonization are being talked about a lot.

>That's why no more space shows. No one believes humans will make it that far anymore.

I hate you for being so correct in that whole post.

>America
There's your answer.

They've always been talked about. Wake me up when someone actually puts their money where their mouth is and makes some results.

Not that user btw.

...

Well you (or him) did mention American media too.

Underrated space anime

They are VERY tonally different from classic SF though. Infected by modernism , ships are just slightly better than our current ones, still having a grim "humanity is nothing in the face of the universe" attitude.

The kind of SF we want (or that OP was asking for at the least) is full of hope. Where humans zip around the universe in beautiful and complex ships that no one can understand, meeting hundreds of intelligent species to trade with and learn from, and experience wonder, adventure, and the feeling of exploring new lands no one has ever been to before.
That isn't coming back.

>Underrated space anime

MINES: The anime

I love my space elf waifu and all that jazz, but I don't think Banner was an underrated series here on Sup Forums.

It's more of "unknown" rather than "underrated" I guess.

I've only watched a few episodes of the original but its painfully slow in the beginning.

Crest or Banner?

Crest is more about world building and establishing the two protagonists' origins; Banner is where the story actually starts.

It's based of a book so it's pretty much talking the anime. If Jinto and Lafiel's playful bantering in Crest doesn't catch your attention then nothing in the series will, probably.

how far along are the light novels nowadays?
When Banner 2 was released, the novels were like on Banner 5.

You have to be really stupid to say that there are more idol anime than isekai series. Also yuri and fujo are not settings, fuck off.

>tfw no Boba Fett animu
It hurts.

Goddamn.

Still at Banner 5, nothing new as of 2013

>tfw new season never because Hiatus of the Stars and the series is old and busted

Perhaps America shouldn't keep trying to destroy all parts of the world to feed their enormous military industry which cannot exist in a peaceful world, then the people still might have hopes about the future in the age of the Internet where information is spread freely.

At this point in time I just cherish my favorite space elf and rewatch Crest/Banner every now and then for fun.

Retard.

Is that why Interstellar or Martian did so well?

I'm enjoying this manga so far.

Lafiel is about 140% cuter in this adaptation for sure, I dig the artist's style a lot.

This manga has hentai like art.

No more Spoor. Sad.

LAMHIRH

There's no one for you to tease, Spoor lover. Go be bored elsewhere.

We get space series all the fucking time. We just had like 3 last season.

They don't want "space" space anime.

They want 3deep5u space anime with western name protagonists.

I really love this art style.

Are there even more ongoing series like CotS?

Like what? Because I don't remember anything.

I have seen 3 space anime from 1999.
From all of the 00's put together, I have seen 1 space anime, Space Patrol Luluco, and that isn't even a real space anime, just in name. And two others who just briefly, at the end, escalate into space, and those don't count either.

Not that I know of sadly.

Yeah, the art for this adaptation is excellent, she's a lot more expressive than she was depicted in the anime series.

Ugh I meant from the 10's, not the 00's.

Ships look much better too. Sort of EVE like.

This really should get a remake. Especially since few of the books never got anime.

There was less anime made then too.

Sci-fi genre in general is pretty dead. But with all those successful Hollywood movies about space maybe some authors will start doing it again.

It's true that aside from the occasional Gundam and Macross, fewer and fewer series take part in space. It's a real shame.
As much as I love Code Geass and am looking forward to R3, I also wish Sunrise would keep making original mecha anime. I unironically liked Valvrape, and Cross Ange was a while ago.

I sacrifice some people for it but I imagine whoever owns the license would rather make something new and current than old bones like Banner/Crest.

desu I don't watch a lot of anime, so it may be by chance. I also cherrypicked the year that I've seen the most space anime from. I don't know if I was really trying to say anything with this.
(Crest of the Stars, Angel Links, Soreyuke! Uchuu Senkan Yamamoto Yohko)

There are tons of remakes or series returning after over a decade these days.

And are there even any popular space light novels now?

Good, good, I was getting tired of that shitty "space tech".

Because Americans started war in Ukraine right? Or support N.Korea.

You need to remember that visions of grim future were just as common. Look at Blade Runner, Planet of the Apes or entire Cyberpunk genre.

Where are people even getting raws for this?

>who tricked and pushed faggots in the Ukraine oppositions to bypass actual democracy, do a coup and install themselves as leaders?
>who deliberately keep provoking North Korea and stopping them from pursuing any peaceful economy plan?
>who give weapons to Ukraine and bribe the leaders of the security forces so they will magically left work early and who make the rioters magically know the time to charge in to kick out an actual democratically elected leader of the Ukraine.
>who keep forcing a war in Ukraine despite the former eastern Ukraine willing to settle for peace and divide of both side of the country, seeing how the people are divided, thanks to the plots and lies of you know who.
>who keep isolating and forcing everyone to stop trading with North Korea despite knowing that's the exact method to force a country to get angry and declare war and have been proven many times, first with Japan and the next one with Vietnam.
>who disallow South Korea to seek peaceful ties with North Korea despite the Koreans wishes to bury the past?

Geez, I wonder who behind that post.

Hello Putin. Nobody believes in your shit anymore.
