Garupan did far more than Kemono Friends and didn't even have an existing fanbase to pull from.

Mildly disappointed but not particularly surprised, the manga is niche too. In fact the real surprise to me is that it got an anime at all. I mean, I really like it, it's a cool series with a really unique premise given how, for all the schoolgirl stuff, it really plays the whole multimonsterrace world politics thing 100% straight. The hybrid of everyday normal citizen life with getting to see what's going on in the background is done well. But it's also pretty damn niche, realism can be kind of unpleasant or boring or both if you're not a politcsfag, to like CnN you have to like both slice of life AND politicsjunkie AND monstergirls/boys AND historical/modern fantasy/AU war.

That's got to be a pretty fucking tiny group of people. Just from the manga all these years it's always been clear a ton of people found that not very enjoyable. I'll enjoy the single cour myself though, not the first series where I knew it'd bomb and just counted my luck that somehow somebody decided to burn money for my enjoyment.

Usually most everything non-major is skippable and if it turns out there is a unusual gem you'll notice it on Sup Forums. I'll go look up the premise of it now. I need to update some of the blogs and shit I follow, every single old one, fansub review place, etc all seem to have died so my intake about what is happening every season has been less and less.

Kakegurui is doing pretty bad for something that sells 100k in manga sells and has a bunch of spin-off manga that sell good as well. That and along with the fact that even included a event ticket for the first volume and done a lot of promotion for the series makes me wonder if season 2 is even possible.
