Let's have a real talk about anime dubs.
Which ones work well? Are there any qualities in an anime that make it more or less acceptable to be dubbed?
>Example
KanColle got a dub recently and it's horrible.

Let's have a real talk about anime dubs
>Which ones work well?
They don't.
Posting an example of a bad dub is as redundant as posting an example of an anime that is animated
I listen to dub only to laugh at VA and forget about my pathetic life for a brief moment.
Ones with older characters (18+) are usually fine.
>I like a grandma voicing a strong macho martial artist instead of Sean Schemmel because all dubs are trash
Fuck off.
The only good dubs are these.
I agree. Most of hard-boiled themed 90s animes have good dubs. Also, code geass has superb dub
Literally who?
Also check these dubs.
>all dubs are trash
Glad to see we came to an agreement, OP.
Yes, I do. Now kill yourself
English VA for Goku.
>1 off
So close.

Its all about the voice actors behind it.
I liked a lot the FLCL dub.

HIT! HIT! HIT!
Dubs thread?
>dubs
Check mine and fuck off.
Let me show how it's suppose to do it
I think they're better for anime that take place outside of Japan
I love reading the kids on here that rip on dub only cus they think they are hardcore for only watching sub
Most dub voice actresses are cosplayers who fucked a producer.
Dubs tend to be good if the writing isn't too "Japanese" in the source material. Normally, I'd say comedy is something you can't translate but there are a few that do it pretty well.
That seems to be the collective conscious on Sup Forums.
imo English dubs are hit or miss - there is no middle ground of "meh" - it's either really good, or really bad.
I play Kancolle and I wanted to watch the english dub of the anime, but I just couldn't. I really tried.
I'll try REAL HARD to watch Episode 6 for the 6th Loli Destroyers and I'm not gonna watch it ever
Excel Saga has a great English dub, and I can't believe no one else brought it up yet.
Sure hope you're not watching English dubs then. You're obviously ESL garbage.
I am sorry I don't speak weaboo shit and would rather watch than read my anime.
>lnb4 newfags
Unlike you weebs I have a productive life
>They don't get someone with a British accent to voice as Kongou
That alone belongs in the trash
The only people who do dubbing work for anime are dumb faggots who went to a shitty liberal arts college in the hopes of being an actor, but failed because they have no talent and took any job they could find that was related to acting.
It's also why they keep changing the scripts into tumblr fanfiction.
Cowboy Bebop
Space Dandy
Baccano
FLCL
Gurren Lagann was alright
There's more that I can't remember.
Big-O dub is good too. Schwartzwald's redpills is best in English
FMA:B had a good dub
I like Evangelion's dub
Golden Boy, too.
Golden Boy's dub is cringe tier
Eva's dub made the ending even harder to understand, but was ok as far as dubs go.
EoE's dub was trash, though.
How is EoE and eva's dubs any different? they're the exact same cast. ffs, some of the best moments in EoE are when it's in english
Only good dubs I can think of are Cowboy Bebop and Baccano
Check my reoccurring integers
All of the obvious ones have been said, but the sailor moon dub is superior
>Which ones work well? Are there any qualities in an anime that make it more or less acceptable to be dubbed?
All you need is for the dubbers to give a fuck.
youtube.com
Anything that is not ultra-Japanese has a potential for a good dub, it's just most of the time it's done as a budget cash-in by a bunch of hacks.
Legend of Zorro Czech dub also comes to mind and I'm pretty sure Italian was based as well.
Of course, the EN dub is horrible as per old anime standards.
Welcome to the NHK was surprisingly good.
>All you need is for the dubbers to give a fuck.
Pretty much, just look at the voice overs for Sup Forums or western Sup Forums material, clearly there isn't a deficient in English voice talent. It's just that nobody bothers to get that talent for dubbing and just gets the same fucks over and over who can't act for shit.
Pretty much every thread about dubs has the same list of the good ones. The rest of the posts are usually just shit flinging until everyone gets bored and goes home.
I like the Major's voice in the SAC dubs. I enjoyed cromartie high school for different reasons both subs and dubs. Iirc FMA dubs were good too for everything but children and Alphonse.
Stuff like Dragon Ball and Pokemon sound so much better dubbed than subbed (atleast in german)
>That dub
Love them all they sound better than nipponese and I don't have to read because reading is hard fuck weebs

Dubs threads are against the rules
The frog dub in the 90s were fun. The VA were pretty competent, all the different shows felt like the same 3 guys voiced it (which probably were the case), and the dialogue were often translated into something completely retarded which were dub accordingly.
I like Death Note's dub, but that's most likely cause there's a lot of internal monologues and slow-paced scenes, so the VAs can just naturally act instead of matching quick lip flaps. That and I like the cast choices.
>There are people, out there, that actually like dubs.
He even thinks is better than the original, faggot probably watched the Love Live dub also.
>Yui Yuigahama
I'll french dub is probably the best and worst since a lot of them can be very hilarious and sometimes more expressive but they are the wort due to many mistranslation and cringy lines.
*I'll say
People here actually watch the anime?
Let alone the dubbed version?
They can't surpass the original, anglos can't into cute voices:
youtube.com
>kissanime
People here actually stream?
>streaming
do yourself a favor and remove yourself from the gene pool.
Nobody can quite sound like little girls as well the japanese.
Shows only about older adult characters tend work better for dubbing.
>western Sup Forums material
>good voice acting
Yes, I too love hearing Yuri Lowenthall do the exact same fucking voice every time.
I dunno, I got this image from one of the old Flying with threads.
Though I do stream shows that aren't worth watching beyond episode 2.
Dubs are getting a lot better these days. The most consistent problems I've seen are most female VAs still can't pull off a genuinely cute highschool girl voice. Male voices are usually pretty good though.
Well, they hired some 30-40 year old females to voice something twice younger than they actually are, what do you expect?
Even a lot of the younger ones just sound like a fake helium voice. Not a natural high pitched cute voice. But I think that's mostly just a cultural difference since cute is seen as bad compared to sexy in the west.
Instead lets just change the actor for Goku 12 times and shuffle the rest of the cast just as much. Oh and they all talk monotone. This is much better.
That, or just difference in physiology methinks. Do you think it'll work if they hired/trained some random asian-american to do it?
That isn't the only factor, in Japan a lot of the VAs go to schools to become better.
Sounds pretty similar desu
Bobobo was very good both in English and Spanish.
Am I the only one who thought Black Lagoon's dub was better than the original? It even made more sense canonically. I'd say characters that are supposed to be speaking English anyway make it more acceptable.
i thought noir was quite a good dub
Yes, I do think the original is better than a cheap bastardization.
