Chemicals are a factor I believe.
I think that since birth, we tend to memorize everything around us & that experience build up our views and personality. Our body answer to stimulus thus creating a reaction in the mind, where those chemicals take action. We may know the structure of the brain and know about the electric pulses going on inside our head, but the power to reason and generate thoughts with those pulses and transform them intro 'consciousness' is beyond human understanding. We can try to anticipate everything but the mind is truly unpredictable.
