There probably wont be any new on the new series until the movie retelling finishes. I can see the final scene for the final movie confirming Lelouche as the cart driver before showing and epilogue segue into the new season.

The visual quality seems to have improve a bit which is nice too.
And they said that there are new scenes so maybe they are going to introduce new elements in the main story before R3

I think that the most interesting point is whether Lelouch is alive and whether a new story will start again. Since it will be the era after "R2", the time axis itself continues as it is. There is no doubt here. First of all, I am going to do my best by giving full support to the full compilation trilogy, and next project Next Project "Resurrection Lelouch".

The quotes are from the 2016 event when R3 was announced

I think they want people to get on board with the movies and expand the base that way, like other properties have done (Madoka, Nanoha, etc), and will continue to plan and discuss the actual sequel behind the scenes, which I assume they've done low-key since last year's anniversary event.

My theory of how the films will go down, at least conceptually:

Part 1 should be around half of season 1, ending with the Narita battle.

Part 2 should be the remaining half, including Euphienator

Part 3 could be a heavily rewritten version of R2 that includes only what's absolutely necessary to set up Zero Requiem and the new sequel.

Recently watched R1 but I couldn't get past the first 2 episodes of R2.

I guess I'll watch these movies instead

It was more of the same, even when the first episodes were a rethread of the first season, and both the final arc and ending were terrific.

Unexpected that all movies would come out in a period shorter than 1 year. R3 could be here sooner than expected.

They said they would be out a few months apart, but then again they also said they would be starting in Jan 2017 so who knows.

Not really that surprising. They're reusing footage from the original for majority of the movies. We'll probably get some new animation, like every compilation movie, but most of it is re-used footage.

Macross DYRL sort of recaps the series in how they both cover enough bullet points to be interchangeable in the canon. Had more than enough differences to be looked at as their own thing too.

I love R2 because it doubles down on being a huge mess. They finally shrugged off any remaining vestige of being a "realistic" mecha show and just went full on demented.

Yeah but we didn't get nearly as much T&A in R2 as a tradeoff, not as much blood and gore, either. The move to an earlier timeslot hurt the content rating. It also seems to have hurt the storytelling. R1 could be pretty goofy but it never got anywhere near as retarded as R2 could get. Fucking Rollo, for starters.
