Why the fuck do people always act surprised? The quality of Fate, and type moon shit in general, is always determined by the MC, because the universe literally revolves around him. The servants, grail war, and rivals are just inconsequential set pieces for wish fulfillment. There's nothing inherently bad about this, unless it's as badly done as fucking Sieg. The fucking writing and pacing is just so fucking bad in Apocrypha, even if you disregard the premise and the plot revolving around a shitty self insert like Sieg.

Astolfo is probably the single most straightforwardly heroic Servant in the entire roster. Most of them are fairly complex or sympathetic in their own way, as Vlad can be a monster or a patriot depending on how you interpret his legend, but Astolfo goes out of his way to do the right thing and help other people because that’s just who he is as a person.
