Considering that YPG decided to put a certain friend of mine on halt to join Rojava because Suleymanyia Airport is closed for foreigners, how feasable would be for this certain friend to get to kurdish Iraq to meet his YPG contact and get to Rojava, but by land?
This certain friend of mine was considering crossing the turkish-iraqi kurdistan border, the closest settlement seems to be about 40-60 km away, easily crossed on foot, a day's hike at most.
How unlawful is the region? Do you people think that, were my friend to propose this to his YPG contact, he'd tell him to not do it? Do you think my friend would make it?

>Reports of scores of Russians killed in Syria are disinformation by anti-govt forces - Moscow
Media reports about alleged “dozens” or “hundreds” killed Russian military servicemen in Syria are “classic disinformation” that was launched by anti-government militants, the Russian Foreign Ministry has stated. Earlier this week, media reports claimed that a recent US airstrike in Syria left Russian servicemen dead, putting the figures anywhere from dozens to several hundred.
Those reports stemmed from anti-government fighters in Syria, who spread them accompanied by doctored images, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at her weekly news conference.
“The reports on the deaths of dozens, hundreds, of Russians is classic disinformation,” Zakharova said. “Preliminary data shows the armed confrontation, the reasons of which are currently being investigated, could have resulted in deaths of five people, presumably Russian citizens,” the spokeswoman said, adding that their citizenship still needs to be checked.
Zakharova added that those who were killed in the airstrike did not serve in the Russian armed forces and pointed out that there are a large number of foreigners fighting in Syria.

>Taliban says Afghan War could continue for 100yrs with no result, calls on US to start peace talks
The Taliban has published a letter slamming the US president’s new Afghan strategy. It urges Americans and their elected representatives to lobby Donald Trump to choose negotiations, not escalation, in war-torn Afghanistan. The 10-page letter released by Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid makes use of statistics and figures in an attempt to sway the “American people” and “peace-loving congressmen” to pressure the White House into peace talks with the group – a move which Trump has publicly opposed.
>Citing the “3,546 American and foreign soldiers” killed and the “87 percent rise” in heroin production in 2017, the letter argues that “if the policy of using force is continued for another one hundred years, the outcome will be the same ... as you have observed over the last six months since the initiation of Trump’s new strategy.”
>EU tries to revive stalled UN peace talks on Syria The European Union on Thursday sought to revive stalled United Nations peace talks for Syria. The negotiations in Geneva made little or no progress during seven years of the war, before hitting a deadlock last December, Reuters reported. Russia has been promoting peace talks in Astana with Turkey, which supports rebel groups in Syria. EU foreign ministers in Bulgaria were holding their first full discussion about Syria in almost a year. “We’ll discuss how to mobilize humanitarian support but also how to use the convening power of the EU to support the UN-led political process that is facing difficult moments in these weeks,” according to the EU’s top diplomat, Federica Mogherini. She will host an international conference on Syria in Brussels in April, trying to support the peace process and seeking more pledges of humanitarian aid.

>Turkey tells Pentagon Kurdish YPG should be removed from Syrian Democratic Forces Turkey’s Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli said on Thursday he had told his US counterpart, Jim Mattis, that the Syrian Kurdish YPG should be removed from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Washington is backing the militia in Syria in the fight against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS). Canikli held a briefing to reporters in Brussels after meeting with the US defense secretary. The Turkish minister also said he disputed Mattis’ characterization of the SDF as dominated by Arabs, saying the militia was completely controlled by the YPG, Reuters reports. Canikli’s comments were broadcast live on television in Turkey.
>Israeli military vehicle runs over land mine near Dead Sea, 7 soldiers injured Seven Israeli soldiers were lightly injured Wednesday after running over a land mine near Qasr el-Yahud, north of the Dead Sea, Haaretz reported. Five soldiers in stable condition were taken to the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem, according to the report. The soldiers had arrived at the area to fix a fence surrounding the minefield, according to the Israeli military. Their vehicle reportedly hit an old M15 anti-tank mine covered with sand. Qasr el-Yahud is on the banks of the Jordan River, where thousands of Catholics and Protestant pilgrims from around the world come to visit each year.

>Granny fucker Macron wants Iran’s missile program put ‘under surveillance’ Tehran’s ballistic missile program must be placed under international surveillance, French President Emmanuel Granny fucker Macron has said. The bid positions the French leader to get tougher on Tehran while preserving the nuclear deal that US President Donald Trump has threatened to scrap, Reuters said. France, one of the signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal, wants to preserve it as nothing better has been offered, according to Granny fucker Macron. However, he said late on Tuesday the use of “Iranian-linked missiles in Yemen and Syria” needed to be addressed. “And [we need] to put Iran under surveillance over its ballistic missiles. It’s indispensable for the security of the region and so we need a mechanism of sanctions and control adapted to that,” Reuters quoted Granny fucker Macron as saying. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on February 8 that the West must ensure the nuclear deal succeeds before trying to negotiate other issues.
>Iran rejects Granny fucker Macron's call for talks on missile issue

Protest in Aleppo rejecting the US presence on Syrian soil
Thousands of Aleppo’s citizens gathered at Saadallah al-Jabiri Square to protest the illegal presence of the US on the Syrian territory.
The participants carried signboards condemning the US terrorism and its tools of armed terrorist groups, affirming the unity of the Syrian territory and their support to the Syrian Arab Army in its war against terrorism.
>Syrian Winter Wonderland: How Extremists Trick YouTub
On April 26, 2017, a YouTube user uploaded a fan-made video glorifying ISIS suicide bombers. The nearly four minute-long video montage included clips of militants in combat, extremely graphic photos of dead fighters sprawled on the ground, and––most notably––a superimposed animation of falling snow. Initially, the fluffy white flakes drifting past scenes of dead bodies and bombings may seem rather bizarre. Nonetheless, by transforming the Syrian desert into a winter wonderland, the uploader appears to have successfully circumvented YouTube’s algorithm for removing extremist content.
YouTube has since claimed that nearly 70 percent of violent extremist content is taken down within eight hours of upload, and that its content removal process uses a combination of technology and human review. Furthermore, the video was flagged as “age-restricted,” meaning that YouTube’s review team did note that it contained graphic content.” Nonetheless, the video was still accessible on YouTube with more than 3,700 views over nine months later on February 12, 2018.
>YouTube may have improved its methods to identify, flag, and remove extremist content, but extremists are also actively––and creatively––finding ways to circumvent them. For example, a video uploaded to YouTube on October 21, 2016, appeared to be a half-hour long Al Jazeera news segment. In reality, a 28-minute-long ISIS propaganda video entitled “To Where, Al-Bahrayn” played after a brief introduction stolen from an actual Al Jazeera news broadcast. The ISIS propaganda video was presented in a box as if it were a film clip being played within the Al Jazeera news segment, even going as far as keeping the Al Jazeera logo in the lower right corner. The video was still present on YouTube five days later on October 26.
>Jihadists looking to Egypt's Sinai for new home base: army
After crushing blows in Iraq and Syria, global jihadists could be eyeing Egypt's Sinai Peninsula as a new home base, the army said Thursday, as it presses an offensive in the region.
Cairo last week announced a major operation against jihadists across swathes of territory, including the volatile region which has been at the heart of a persistent Islamic State group insurgency.
The security sweep in the Sinai, Nile Delta and Western Desert near the border with Libya comes as the country prepares for polls next month in which President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is seeking re-election.
Army spokesman Tamer el-Refai said at a press conference broadcast Thursday that intelligence showed that jihadists were planning "to create a new terrorist home base in another area that could potentially be the Sinai Peninsula".
The spokesman told a tightly controlled press conference that 53 jihadists have been killed since the start of the operation, while more than 600 people have been detained.
There was no way to independently verify the figures given.
In November, Sisi ordered his armed forces chief of staff to restore security in Sinai within three months after militants killed more than 300 worshippers at a mosque.
Egypt has been under a state of emergency since April last year, after two suicide bombings at churches claimed by IS killed at least 45 people in the cities of Tanta and Alexandria.

>Tillerson says Hezbollah must be constrained
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Thursday that Hezbollah is threatening the stability of Lebanon and the wider Middle East and said the group should withdraw from foreign conflicts in Yemen and Syria.
Tillerson, speaking at a news conference in Beirut alongside Prime Minister Saad Hariri, said the Shia political, social and military group, "uses terrorism to advance its political agenda inside Lebanon, across the region, and around the world." He urged Lebanese leaders to uphold Lebanon's commitment to disassociating itself from foreign conflicts. "The international community expects all parties in Lebanon to fulfill this commitment, including Hezbollah, which should withdraw and cease its activities abroad in order to help reduce tensions in the region," Tillerson said.

>Mystery as 'highly unusual' radioactive substance enriched with the type of uranium used to make nuclear fuel and bombs is detected in Alaska
Experts detected the particles 4.3 miles (7 km) above the Aleutian Islands The aerosol was measured by a Nasa WB-57 high altitude research plane This is the first time in 20 years of these missions uranium-235 has been found The radioactive sample may have originated in China, Japan or North Korea == Particles enriched with uranium, used to make nuclear fuel and bombs, have been detected above Alaska - and their source remains a mystery.
The 'highly unusual' particles, containing the isotope uranium-235, were spotted in the atmosphere for the first time in 20 years of plane-based atmospheric observations.
Experts have discounted natural causes, although research suggests it originated in Asia.
They believe that the sample may have come from China, Japan or North Korea.

>Former head of MI6 says Britain has lost its influence on the world and lays the blame on Cameron for failing to order airstrikes on Syria in 2013
Britain's former top spook has warned Britain has lost its global influence - and laid some of the blame on David Cameron for failing to order airstrikes on Syria in 2013.
Sir John Sawers, ex head of MI6, said the then Prime Minister ducked his responsibility by asking Parliament to vote on whether to militarily intervene in the civil war.
MPs voted narrowly against sending planes in and Bashar al-Assad carried on raining bombs down on his people.
And it left a vacuum which allowed Putin's Russia to intervene to prop up the dictator, while ISIS terrorised vast swathes of the country for years afterward.
Sir John said: 'We have made less impact in the world in the last ten years than we did in the 30 years before that.'
The former intelligence chief said that from the 'period 1980 to 2010, Britain was quite an influential player in the world.
'I don't think since 2010 we've really had a big influence in global affairs.'
He said Mr Cameron's failure to seize the initiative and order airstrikes has contributed to a loss in Britain's influence on the world.
He told Prospect magazine: 'David Cameron's decision to refer the matter to Parliament rather than taking the responsibility on his and his government's shoulders - and then Barack Obama ducking and diving the issue in the US - that led to much greater suffering in Syria as a consequence and it opened the door for the Russian intervention.
>if we don't bomb foreign countries we lose our influence the death of the British empire is a good thing then

>has lost its global influence Now they have lost influence? The UK is entirely irrelevant to anyone's political calculations. Someone nuke em pls

Amb @NikkiHaley: Much of the violence is happening in so-called de-escalation zones. Russia was supposed to guarantee adherence to these de-escalation zones to help the political process. Instead, we see the Assad regime continue to bomb, starve, and yes, gas civilians.
The issue you you do have is you can't see outside your tiny universe of "oh but then life wouldn't make sense at all and it's totally useless' In this simple way it is useless" and as irrelevant as it can get It starts to.make sense again if you would understand the basics of order and disorder in physics. And would brake down life to its smallest parts. And what their goal actually is. And they goal simply is to stay in a state of the energetic stable state. This is how our body actually works. In its smallest part. You digest your food and you body's cutting of the atoms he needs to stay stable in its whole. But as you can imagine this doesn't work perfectly. If it would we would be imortal.
And consider this in a bigger picture like solar system the solar system will fail to someday and at some day our whole Galaxy. This will come to an end if ether everything is at the same time at the same place (this is actually the current theory of the tine before the big bang even do there was no time actually) Or every particle would be spread equally in a way it is absolutely perfect considering temperature absolut 0 mass And this is unlikely to happen.
So humanity itself is so fucking small it doesn't matter in a way it could change the outcome of the universe in anyway. We are just tge smallest weall in a clockwork that will run anyway. And jt will find a nother way if we fajl to exist. And as i said our existence is just the matter we happen to be in an ok energetic State
>not entirely sure where this meme comes from, why are we even considered a major player in global affairs? we pose no threat and hold no authority It comes from the remnants of your old imperial class, thinking their Churchill or some shit. Literally no one takes Britain seriously. No one cares what they think. THE EMPIRE IS DEAD. Russia has more effect on world affairs than the UK does. Even with an economy barley bigger than Spain.
