Death to Iran, of course!

>To bring peace to Syria and Iraq, allow them to break apart
Years more of war between Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds in Syria and Iraq, with horrific casualties? A wider conflict drawing in the U.S., Russia, Turkey, Israel and even Iranian troops battling it out?

Security Studies Group, which I head, put forth a plan last year for Iraq and Syria that still looks like the most likely path to stability, if not exactly peace. It accepts the truth on the ground that the countries of Iraq and Syria are broken and do not represent their people in any meaningful way. So let’s stop pretending they do.

>Our plan proposes autonomy and eventual self-determination for the Sunni regions of Iraq and Syria and the Kurdish Regional Government in Iraq upon the defeat of ISIS and removal of the Assad regime in Syria.

The plan calls for a 10-year international protectorate in the Sunni parts of Iraq and Syria, policed by troops from many nations, including the U.S., to separate warring factions and end the fighting.

At the end of 10 years, we propose the people within the protectorate should be given the opportunity to vote and select one of three options for the future:

1) Turn western Iraq and eastern Syria into autonomous regions within the existing nations.

2) Turn the protectorate into an independent republic that’s not part of Iraq nor Syria.

3) Turn the protectorate into two independent republics – one in territory that’s now part of Iraq, the other in territory that’s now part of Syria.

The existing nation states of Iraq and Syria have already failed and fragmented. It is highly unlikely the Sunni and Kurdish regions of either can be successfully reintegrated with the dominant Shiite regions in each country. The populace in these regions harbors tremendous dislike of their respective central governments.

>No new information about Russians killed in Syria — Kremlin

The Kremlin has no new information about the number of Russians killed in Syria, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"We have no new information," he said, commenting on western media reports citing new numbers. "We have already said all we can say on the matter," the Kremlin spokesman added.

On February 15, Peskov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had not given orders to classify the information about the country’s citizens killed in Syria.

>Lavrov stresses that US intends to carve up parts of Syria

Washington is seeking to isolate and cut off a vast part of Syria’s territory, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with the Euronews television channel on Friday.

"They [the United States] seem to be seeking to isolate a vast part of the Syrian territory from the rest of the country in violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity," he said.

"A US taskforce and other units are illegally staying in Syria, without any invitation from Damascus (the legitimate government) or a United Nations Security Council mandate," he added.

"Obviously, the United States has some strategy, which, I think, is geared to keep its military presence in Syria forever," he noted. "They are seeking to do the same in Iraq and in Afghanistan, in spite of all their previous promises."

>Hamas condemns US bill sanctioning it over ‘human shields’
Hamas has condemned a US bill that sanctions the Islamic militant group for using civilians in Gaza as “human shields.” The House unanimously passed the Hamas Human Shields Prevention Act on Wednesday. The movement’s spokesman, Fawzi Barhoum, said Thursday that the bill sides with “the Israeli narrative.” The bill steps up US pressure against Hamas, which Washington and much of the West already considers a terrorist organization, AP said. However, as such the legislation would not add any additional sanctions on the group. Echoing Israeli complaints, the bill says Hamas routinely instructs Palestinians not to flee from Israeli airstrikes. The group wrested control of Gaza from the Western-backed Palestinian Authority in 2007. Last month, the US designated Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh as a “global terrorist.”

>Myanmar says it’s ‘ready to take back’ Rohingya – Bangladesh officials
A visiting Myanmar minister has told the president of Bangladesh that Myanmar is ready to take back Rohingya Muslims who fled from violence, presidential spokesman Joynal Abedin said on Friday. Myanmar’s home minister, Kyaw Swe, told President Abdul Hamid in Dhaka that Myanmar was ready to take back Rohingya under a deal signed by the countries late last year, AP reports. Abedin also quoted the minister as saying that Myanmar will implement the recommendations by a commission led by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Around 700,000 Rohingya refugees have arrived in Bangladesh since late August, when Myanmar’s military launched a security crackdown.

>Pakistan to send military training mission to Saudi Arabia
Pakistan’s military has said it will send troops to assist Saudi Arabia on a training mission. They will not be deployed in conflict zones outside the kingdom. The announcement surprised lawmakers who on Friday sought further clarification from the government, AP reported. The military did not say how many troops are being sent to the Gulf kingdom. Three years ago, Pakistan rejected a Saudi request to send troops there as part of a Saudi-led coalition, of mostly Gulf states, fighting Shiite Houthi rebels in Yemen. Retired Pakistani Army General Raheel Sharif heads the Saudi-led alliance.

>Merkel sees no threat in new gas pipe to Russia, Poland disagrees

Germany and Poland have different views on the planned Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and Berlin does not believe it poses a threat to energy diversification, Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Friday. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has called for the US to impose sanctions on the planned pipeline. US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said last month the US government sees the project as a threat to Europe’s energy security, Reuters reported. “We had different views on the Nord Stream issue,” Merkel said after meeting Morawiecki in Berlin. “We think this is an economic project. We are also for energy diversification. We also want Ukraine to continue to have transit gas traffic, but we believe Nord Stream poses no danger to diversification,” she added.

>US seeks to double AK-47 supply to Syrian partners

The Donald Trump administration is seeking to more than double the number of assault rifles it provides to Syrian Kurds and other US-backed fighters despite rising anger from NATO ally Turkey.

Budget figures released Feb. 15 reveal that the Pentagon plans to give its Syrian partners — including the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) — more than 25,000 AK-47s, the gas-powered Soviet-era gun that has become a fixture in Syria’s seven-year civil war. The low cost and accessibility of the Kalashnikovs make them easy for US-backed troops to sustain as the Pentagon looks to hold territory won back from the Islamic State (IS) in the Euphrates River Valley.

The request more than doubles the 12,000 assault rifles the Department of Defense requested for Syrian forces in the current fiscal year, even as the US plans to dole out fewer machine guns, mortars and sniper rifles. Many of the US-supplied weapons used in Syria, including AK-47s, are sourced from Eastern European countries such as Bulgaria, Bosnia and the Czech Republic.

British ISIS fighter who was plotting a massacre on home soil is killed by a US drone in a secret UK-led mission in Syria

A British Islamic State fighter plotting attacks on this country was killed in a secret UK mission, the Daily Mail can reveal today.

Naweed Hussain was hunted down by British personnel and killed by a US drone on the orders of the RAF in the Syrian city of Raqqa last spring.

The 32-year-old from Coventry allegedly planned a massacre back in Britain while in the war-ravaged country.

It is the first time the death of a British IS fighter killed in a mission involving the UK military has been revealed by anyone other than the UK or US government.

The extremist is the third British foreign fighter to have been deliberately targeted and killed in an operation involving the UK to be named, following the deaths of Reyaad Khan and Mohammed Emwazi, known as Jihadi John, in 2015.

Hussain is one of more than 20 fighters from Britain and other countries killed in Iraq and Syria since autumn 2014 either by the RAF or in a UK-led mission because they were plotting carnage on British soil, senior security sources told the Mail. The figure could be as high as 30.

British military officers analysing intelligence found Hussain hiding in Raqqa, then an IS stronghold, last year.

He was hunted down by the UK and watched by British 'assets' during the covert operation in which he was killed, sources said.

The RAF then called in a US Predator drone which was in the best position to kill him at the time.

The drone pilot stationed in Creech Air Force Base, Nevada, struck him with a precision-guided weapon and he was confirmed dead.

>US has been arming Kurdish units in Syria, ignoring Turkey position - Lavrov

Washington has been staking on Syrian Kurds, supplying Kurdish groups with weapons and ignoring Turkey’s position, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with the Euronews television channel on Friday.

Turkey’s position, in his words, is that some of Kurd groups operating in Syria are branches of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, which is listed as a terrorist organization in a range of countries. "Turkey has repeatedly said it would do its utmost to prevent the Kurds from taking control of the border between Syria and Turkey," he said. "Despite that, the Americans have been arming, I would say, heavily arming, Kurdish units totally ignoring Turkey’s position. From the very beginning of their activities in Syria, the Americans have been staking on Kurds and turning a deaf ear to Turkey’s protests."

"A couple of months ago, the United States suddenly announced its plans to establish 30,000-strong, mostly Kurdish, force to safeguard the border security zone between Syria and Turkey," Lavrov said. "Later on, they made clumsy attempt to disavow their own statements that facts indicate the this disavowal did not change their intentions. Then, Turkey announced what it announced (on January 20, the Turkish military launched the Olive Branch Operation near Syria’s Afrin, home to about 1.5 million Kurds and refugees from other Syrian regions)."

According to the Russian top diplomat, Turkey’s operation in Afrin was no big surprise for him. "Washington was simply turning a deaf ear to Ankara’s repeated warnings," he added.
CONT

Dangerous game
Nevertheless, he said, the United States does have a strategy in Syria. "Obviously, the United States has some strategy, which, I think, is geared to keep its military presence in Syria forever," he noted. "They are seeking to do the same in Iraq and in Afghanistan, despite all the previous promises."

The Russian minister pointed to the fact that Washington is obviously seeking to alienate a vast part of Syria’s territory. "They [the United States] seem to be seeking to alienate a vast part of the Syrian territory from the rest of the country in violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity," he said. "They are forming quasi-local authorities in a bid to establish a Kurd-based autonomy there."

"It is very dangerous to play the Kurdish card keeping in mind only own geopolitical designs in one part of this region, which the United States is currently demonstrating," Lavrov stressed. "It may entail big problems in a number of other countries with Kurdish population, which are facing the Kurdish problem."

"It is necessary to think how to ensure equal right for Kurds in the present-day national borders rather than try to disturb this region our Western colleagues have been doing throughout the entire last century," the Russian minister underscored.

>Turkey hits Kurds with toxic gas, 6 civilians injured – Syrian media

Turkish forces engaged in Operation Olive Branch against Kurdish militias in the northwest of Syria have used gas, Syrian state media SANA reports. At least six civilians have been hospitalized.

>"Six people have been admitted with symptoms of suffocation as a result of the use of projectiles with poisonous gas by the Turkish regime in the town of Aranda," SANA quotes the hospital's director, Joan Mohammed. Medics are working to determine the type of gas used, Mohammed said.

>NASRALLAH: SHOOTING DOWN ISRAELI JET 'A VERY BIG MILITARY ACHIEVEMENT'

Hassan Nasrallah praised Friday the shooting down of an Israeli fighter jet last Saturday by Syrian anti-aircraft fire, describing it as "a very big military achievement."

The leader of the Iran-backed Lebanese terrorist organization made the comments during a televised address to a Beirut rally commemmorating the death of senior Hezbollah commanders.

Nasrallah emphasized that the decision to shoot down the plane was a purely Syrian decision, taken by Syrian president Bashar al-Assad and other high-ranking Syrian officials, without Iranian influence.

The F-16 fighter jet was shot down after Israeli aircraft targeted a series of Iranian and Syrian military targets located in Syria. The strikes came in response to an Iranian drone flown from Syria into Israeli territory earlier in the day. The drone was intercepted by an Israeli Air Force Apache helicopter.

The F-16's two Israeli airmen ejected from the aircraft, parachuting to safety inside Israel.

Lads, realistically, how does this end?
SAA, Russia etc can keep hunting down ISIS/other terrorists and keep them to a minimum. Sure they'll never be completely eradicated, more will always pop up, but they can be kept to a minimum...
...however the USA is still there, digging in further, building more bases, sending in more 'advisors', literally, brazenly killing Syrians and Russians now. Israel is bombing Syria more and more from the south. They're not going away. And they're escalating even when their provocations are not answered. Threatening grave consequences if their provocations ARE answered.

Explain to a dum-dum like me how this ends, when Psycho Israel and Psycho JewSA are determined not to leave/stop.

what can they plot? Mounting some old Migs and attack Detroit?

Things are getting mighty interesting in Syria

...

Nothing. Exactly. This is why I believe that they could finance terror groups and lunch attacks on the US soil. There is nothing that can link terror groups directly to Iran/Russia. No evidence, no War. UN, NATO, Europeans will shill on us if we say we believe Russians are behinds this. This will alienate us in front of everyone. This is what Russia, Iran, NK, China want. America that is alone versus the world. It will not work but surely it will close many borders and create tension. This can escalate from small civil war to another indirect cold war.
