To give context on the scene, the blond chick got mindjacked and interprets every order as "kill everything around me" and the higher ups plan was to destroy her Object, the name of the giant mechs, killing her in the process.
The MC guy figures they can achieve the same result by forcing the Object's weapons useless while keeping the chassis from being too badly damaged which is the equivalent of destruction to the Object's AI since you cannot destroy an enemy Object without an Object class weapon so it ejects the pilot.
