Something I didn't expected in Patlabor TV.
Because I'm watching slowly I had forgotten that Kanuka was in Japan temporally. She was my favorite and I don't know what to expect now from the new girl that will be introduced. Never heard anyone mentioning her existence.

I watched Macross a while ago, and I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it sure as fuck wasn't a shitfest of a love triangle. In the end I was honestly rooting for Hikaru and Minmay to be together since these 2 awful pieces of shit belong to eachother.
I sure hope the rest of the series isn't like this, because the original series left a very sour taste in my mouth.
the rest of the series is bad asides from Plus and DYRL
Honestly, the original was pretty great besides the last 9 episodes
>In the end I was honestly rooting for Hikaru and Minmay to be together since these 2 awful pieces of shit belong to eachother.
Yeah, in the end Hikaru didn't deserved Misa after all that unnecessary suffering.
You're Under Arrest was a great anime in the 90s.
Ye I had a pretty positive opinion of the original series up to the final battle, but everything after the timeskip was just painful to watch, episode 34 ESPECIALLY. I think I'll watch DYRL (because that was honestly my original reason for watching Macross), finish it off with Plus and then forget about this series.
For you. I watched the OVA and found it very boring. Plus, Yoriko was infuriating.
On episode 22. Pic related seems to have completely disappeared from the show (as did the stock shoujo bullying).
It's almost easier to consider everything post time-skip a separate series. SDF had an insane production run that was budget and scheduling hell. Nothing went as planned, and it's part (not all, but part) of why the series was all over the place. Overall though I think SDF holds up pretty well, and is pretty good. It's also unfortunate that while Macross has a trend of the best girl winning, the prize is usually not worth winning.
As for the rest of Macross after SDF, definitely watch DYRL and Plus. I thought DYRL's story was dumb and shits all over everything I liked about SDF, but it's an absolutely gorgeous visual treat. The quality of the rest of the Macross is all over the place and depends wildly on who you ask.
I'm getting into the end game of G Gundam now.
>shits all over everything I liked about SDF
Can you explain this further? I really didn't like how they changed the characters from SDF, but the rest wasn't too bad.
I know it's some pointless social media shit but I saw some fucktards on Twitter getting mad at Kanashimi no Belladonna for being "objectifying" and too "cruel", just pathetic.
Also read that Sugii wanted to leave the film at Jeanne burning at the stake to leave people wondering what all of this would lead to, but Yamamoto wanted to tie it up with the French revolution end. They argued for a while and apparently the first screening(s) didn't end with the revolution and it was added afterwards.
Sugii animated these two scenes as well as the black death.
I never would have though a scene of a little girl receiving a dress with poofy sleeves would be so emotional.
"cruel" and "objectifying" are the cries of a plebeian who cant stand when a piece of work intentionally provokes thoughts and emotions more extreme than the most banal and pedestrian.
Right, that's what I thought. They don't understand the point of the film and probably have no idea that it's an adaptation and not an original work, too. These idiots expect the director and animators to respond to the "problematic" content, ignoring the historical roots and not realizing peasants' fear and suffering leading to witchcraft is an essential part of Michelet's thesis.
It's a bit hyperbolic, and honestly it's been a couple years since I last watched either. I'm fuzzy on details, but I recall really disliking the plot of the movie and how all the stuff I thought SDF did best, particularly the interplay between the Macross and the shadowing Zentradi fleet (both culturally and militarily) wasn't really in the movie. The same goes for the character relations, in particular how Hikaru's military service and Minmei's rise to stardom really changes them. The whole Meltlandi thing I found really dumb as well and much preferred the way female Zentradi worked in the series, especially post time-skip with those two rebel commanders. The plot as a whole felt really messy, and the really wacky stuff like a huge Protoculture city just being on Earth and nobody ever noticing never sat well with me.
It's also somewhat unfair to compare DYRL to SDF because too much happens in SDF to condense down into a movie. The plot has to change, and that's fine, but they changed it in such a way that I think the themes of the original series, and the stuff that really resonated with me, didn't translate well or at all. I feel the movie gets even worse if you take it completely on its own merits because then the holes in the story and just how incoherent it was because of the large time skips to hit analogous story beats to SDF make even less sense without the context of SDF.
Also I hate the Zentradi character and ship redesigns and still have a chip on my shoulder for the way that DYRL influenced their designs in the following series. Though on the other hand, the DYRL versions of the UN Spacy tech and equipment is fantastic.
Sorry for how bloggy that got.
>I saw some fucktards on Twitter getting mad at Kanashimi no Belladonna for being "objectifying" and too "cruel"
Did they not get what was the importance of Belladonna and her actions within the social structure set? Belladonna is particularly interesting in that it makes the woman figure be the power of change, a subject, goddamnit! Cruel, it is cruel, of course it is cruel, do they expect social revolution or alternative societies to go without violence?
Also, watched the first season of Lupin: seems to mingle around being watered down smut and episodic adventure stuff and doesn't seem to quite fit the two. Aside from some particularly entertaining episodes, like the jewelry smuggling one, it was pretty dissapointing, while fun. The OST is the shit, though, captures some sort of mid european sex-thriller vibe perfectly.
go watch DYRL right now
RIGHT NOW
Maybe they were grossed out by the sex and violence scenes but I really don't know, I don't get it. It's not like it was even explicit. Maybe kids these days are just too thin-skinned.
But half of the point is how the patriarcal society rips through the soul of women. The violence was necessary to show a motivation of revolution. I need to rewatch it for it to be clearer, but the point wasn't in any single way pornographic. It strayed away from that claiming the intention of sincerity through the suggestive power of its images.
I don't think it has anything to do with muh patriarchy but I'm waiting on the book to be transferred to my local library so I can read it and understand his thesis properly.
>Lupin
Miyazaki and Takahata took over around episode 11 IIRC, which would explain why you picked up on the change in tone.
And that reminds me, I saw one of these morons qualifying it as smut, which is preposterous for the reasons you cited.
>Reddit writing
Women's liberation and patriarchy are strong thematic points in Belladonna of Sadness, specially from the views it holds in the relations between witchcraft and the Catholic Church. I'm talking about the film here, though, since it is obviously influenced by its own context (overall, the New Left).
>Reddit writing
Woah, spacing your paragraphs is now reddit? Go back to Sup Forums.
Been a little while since I saw it so maybe you're right.
I feel like I missing the point of the movie. the visuals are super awesome but I just dont understand this.
>It's also somewhat unfair to compare DYRL to SDF because too much happens in SDF to condense down into a movie. I felt your pain.
There's so much good in SDF that was gone in DRL, they scrapped everything for the "Idol" thing.
Anyone know a place that seeds older stuff? Haven't watched much anime since baka went private.
import blurays from japan
>She was my favorite
That's some right good taste you have there, OP.
Is Attack No.1 any good?
Been working my way through Project A-ko. It's sort of like a concentrated version of what I thought of anime as being back when I first got into it.
Being in the military turns men into beasts or something.
Yeah, I totally get what you mean.
I really enjoyed the first one, but they kinda got worse as they went along. Makes sense, though, considering the director, Katsuhiko Nishijima, dipped after the first one. He's the guy who went on to do Honoo no Tenkousei and Honoo no Labyrinth which are both great, too.
...
The anime is actually the 3rd film in the trilogy the other 2 are live action.
I have 3 episodes left of Rose of Versailles. I love Oscar! Too bad the Revolution is beginning
You could check /m/'s MEGA pastebin
Was a godsend until Mega became shit
Will Machiko Sensei ever be finished subbed?
Does R get better? I can't stand Chibi Usa.
U just gotta push through until Ikuhara
Just watched Megami Paradise, a couple of OVAs based in a PC Engine game series. Nice sakuga and some nudity too.
But Chibi Usa is the best girl.
Have you tried asking for an invite to BakaBT?
Symbolism was way too heavy handed for me. Decent film but the story was predictable if you had any knowledge of red riding hood.
What's to miss?
All those Moomin threads made me watch the show. It's awfully comfy. Did you guys know yesterday was Moomin Day?
I fell asleep in a grassy field. I think Snufkin would be proud. Everyone else however will probably tell me to get back to mowing my lawn
picked up after I watch YAUA
Watched Chibi Maruko: My Favorite Song yesterday. Was very disappointed. Besides the trippy song sequences, it was rather boring. Still cool to see it subbed though.
>it was pretty dissapointing, while fun
I'm also currently mildly entertained by Lupin III.
Haven't seen much anime since the last thread, but I saw episode 5 of Sailor Moon R, after a many years break from it. Maybe I'll get back to watching Sailor Moon again. Finish that season, at least. Then I guess I should give priority to some other mahou shoujo
...
Damn, this shit is really good, reminds me of the Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock presents
Can't believe its by the same guy who make doraemon
Didn't really care for the remake series, though
Also, how the fuck did they get away with this?
can't find this shit anywhere
you got a link for that?
Is Excel Saga cringy and annoying "lolsorandom" humour? I was slightly considering watching it, but I don't want anything like that.
For comparison, Arakawa Under the Bridge was not funny at all, and Nichijou was just painful.
Is Excel Saga anything like that?
>reminds me of the Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock presents
Picked up.
It's loud, rapid-fire Japanese humor. I'd say it's closer to something like Pani Poni Dash or Plastic Nee-san, but more parody-focused.
If that doesn't sound like your thing than maybe just stay away.
Still yet to watch DYRL but I personally loved SDF
The last 10 or so episodes kinda killed a lot of the hype but Misa was a much better girl so I'm glad she got what she wanted in the end
>not watching my 1080pee version
pleb.
Just started watching this the other day
on episode 18 currently
I love it so far
I hear it fucks you up emotionally in the later seasons, and I don't think I'm prepared at all, but right now I'm enjoying it too much to stop
I have little storage space here, have to finish this already to make space for more anime you anons recommend.
Really? I always see Leland Gaunt.
The image that goes around Sup Forums is really overstating the sadness in the series. It is a lot more comfy than sad most of the time, but it still has its emotional moments.
If this is the one you're talking about then good.
So far it's just comfy witch adventures and these cute witches deserve happiness and not suffering.
is this gonna be episodic until the end? I feel like I could watch any episode at random and I still won't be missing anything.
we're late into the 2010s, I think we should have pre-2010s anime threads
>yeah, remember this washed out piece of digital shit x100
At least bad stuff looked kinda good before the 2000s.
I got it from rutracker.
I'm visiting Finland later this year, so I hope I'll also have the opportunity to fall asleep in a grassy field.
2000-2010 is a weak decade.
90s was shit
>washed out colors everywhere.
There was some nice stuff here and there.
I mean, it felt pretty gratuitous to me. My interest sorta fell off once I got past the initial shock of it all.
>want to watch an old mecha anime
>only subs available are shit
I've been stuck halfway through Sharp for over a year now
>Leland Gaunt.
Yeah, that would've been a better example
The opening and closing title sequences of the salesman coming toward and walking away from the screen and also his monologues are what reminded me of Hitchcock
meant to quote
Watched three more episodes of Sailor Moon R. It's a great walking anime, anime to watch on your phone when you go for walks. Funny and pleasant, doesn't require too much attention, it's the best type of anime for that. May have to delegate it to that purpose.
I agree. There is so much anime from the 2000s that needs more attention. And many of them can only rarely sustain threads. I would love this type of thread for 2000s anime.
Crabstick subs are deeply embedded in mecha culture.
You WILL learn to enjoy it.
There could be some use for making a "less mainstream" list of the 2000s, though. Aoi Bungaku, Shoujo Cosette, Kemono no Souja Erin, Konichiwa Anne, maybe?
do the episodes have english subs?
Nope. It's dubbed in Russian, Polish, Finnish, English and Japanese. I'm watching it in Japanese.
>In the end I was honestly rooting for Hikaru and Minmay to be together
>the original series left a very sour taste in my mouth.
Fuck you. Misa a best and SDF a masterpiece.
Inb4 Hikaru doesn't deserve her. Hikaru is a horny teenager who made the right choice in the end. Don't tell me you'd resist that Minmay pussay if you were a dumb teen.
It's exactly because Misa is best girl that she doesn't need a guy like Hikaru on her side and I don't care about your inb4 it's the goddamned truth.
Also, a German dub.

How is the TV Patlabor compared to the movies and the OVA's? It's the only thing I haven't watched yet, and all I really want is for the anime to flesh out the entire cast more.
The opening for the TV series certainly seems better than anything from the OVA for instance, so I have high hopes that this is the best Patlabor material available. The movies I don't even want to comment on, that's a different thing entirely.
Only plebs can't enjoy Lupin.
There are very few shows I'd say that of, Lupin is one of those few.
How do you walk safely if you're watching anime at the same time?
so are episodes 52-78 in there as well?
>all I really want is for the anime to flesh out the entire cast more.
You'll like it
You know how Patlabor is, boring.
But with time it grows with you. Maybe the beginning is too slow and may made you give up, I almost did, but now that I reached the second half I really want to watch till the end.
You have to persevere and see for yourself, and while I at it... very subtle romance between Noa e Shinohara.
I think i like kumagami more than TV kanuka. TV kanuka was kind of a bitch
The pedestrians and cars are separated where I walk, and I may pause the anime if I'm crossing an intersection. And if you walk somewhere with lots of people, you can walk slowly.
I also watched much of Nadia while walking. But I think Sailor Moon is a bit more suitable, because Nadia has more remarkable animation and requires more attention.
TV is more fun but less polished and quality fluctates
Still, I bet they never show off that other Patlabor division that's under Nagumo and is supposedly better than the chucklefucks like Noa or Ohta, right? I swear, this is practically done deliberately as some sort of a sick joke.
>You know how Patlabor is, boring.
I wouldn't say it's boring, OVA had plenty of interesting stuff. I know it's mostly intentional parody but it's enjoyable to watch if you know what exactly they're parodying at the time. Picture related for example was great in how it subverts expectations.
>very subtle romance between Noa e Shinohara
That shit is not subtle at all in the OVA, they're just shown together all the time and you assume that they must like each other because this is anime. No idea how it's handled in Patlabor on Television though.
It's John le Carre animated.
Ever heard of The Spy who came in from the Cold? Post WW2 spy story with an heavy emphasis on character drama.
Picked up.
Girly crap. Couldn't stand it when it was on tv.
Hikaru is a good fella, all things considered. Don't forget how young he is and what he goes through.
What the fuck is this new fad to shit on the Patlabor OVA? It's great.
>What the fuck is this new fad to shit on the Patlabor OVA? It's great.
Nobody's shitting on the OVA, user.
>it's boring
>the tv opening is better than the ova
Okay then.
Yes, although I just noticed they're only in Russian and Japanese. You can also find episodes 53-65 I think on piratebay in Italian and Japanese. Oopsie.
