Was 2001-2006 visually the absolute worst era for TV anime?

You don't know shit.

Some got BDs, though.
Overman King Gainer was one of them.

You can rescan film. Digitally the only option is to upscale unless you're going to redraw evertything.

>Was 2001-2006 visually the absolute worst era for TV anime?
Definitely.

On top of that there was no TV anime back then.
Yes and in this specific case it is pretty unfortunate because Yuuko is my waifu and I love how she looks in the manga. But the tv series just looks all murky and dull.

>Was 2001-2006 visually the absolute worst era for TV anime?

I'm pretty sure this has been agreed on since about 2007

definitely

But I still wtach all of my anime at 480p or VL versions of 720p.

Totally ripped of Shinbo's style there

I take it you haven't seen the amazing new encode of the series that recently came out in AB? Or all the omnibus manga got put up there?

Not true really. What you mean is early digital, several shows were still done in cel at that point.

Sadly my all-time favourite series is from that era. It managed to get a BD release which doesn't have terrible quality, but ultimately it's still just an upscale, so the only advantage is no major interlacing or rainbow moire effects.

Which is?

Which group? I have the Utsukushii release and it looks like shit.

>several shows were still done in cel at that point.
Like what?

Not many. Noir was one of the last.

OVA and TV series.

upscales, they look like shit

>try to rewatch Paranoia Agent
>so dark half the time I have to brighten my monitor to see anything

>tfw no 8K anime
I hate anime now

In 20 years people will probably look back on all of our 1080p and think the same thing. These shows from 2001-2006 will look worse than VHS rips do today at that point.

...

what are they doing with those eureka seven movies? That looks like its reusing a lot of old footage still in 4:3 but there are newly animated scenes too

...

Princess Tutu is releasing end of this month. I wonder how it will turn out.

what is this horror

Dekinai.

That's just the encode.

I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Can you post a screenshot?

The best looking of the bunch.

Nothing will ever be as bad as the Master Keaton """remaster""""

I'm glad King Gainer is in HD

Better, but doesn't look like a huge improvement. There's only so much you can do with a source like that though. Wish I'd have known to grab that one.

Some anime from that time got refactored upon their BD release like Pani Poni Dash.

But why did they make the xxxHolic anime so shit

I think this was also the case for Kanon 2006.

What does refactoring entail?

I just watched it in 720 and it looked fine. Akiko best girl.

No I know, that's why I think it was refactored, or at least, KyoAni/KEY still had the original digital files to remaster it at such a high quality.

Pretty big contrast to the Haruhi remasters which are much lower quality, yet still from the same year.

Do I have to read Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle if I want to read xxxHolic?

By that logic you might as well read the entirety of CardCaptor Sakura as well. For that fact you might as well read all of Clamp's works.

No, you don't have to read TRC.

Overman king Gainer and Ghost in the shell were actually produced in 1080p though.
