Is the edgelord archetype literally dead?

Is the edgelord archetype literally dead?
I feel like even if we'd get a good ol' classic kind of edgelord they would never be taken seriously due to the fact that emo culture is no longer a thing.

>Is the edgelord archetype literally dead?
what the fuck was sasuke for 100

Just because we don't have any recent series with a likeable edgelord it doesn't mean the archetype is dead.

i blame sasuke

Thinking a well-written character won't be received well just because you think they're an "edgelord" is stupid.

...

>Eren
>edgelord

He's just angry

Bakugou is a edgelord done right.

>Edgelord archetype dead
>Arifureta is getting an anime
Nigga you havent seen nothing yet.

There are plenty of series with several edgelord characters, it's practically a simple character trait at this point and not an archetype.

Bakugou is a joke character.

He's the most realistic type of edgelord, the one that's a cunt thanks to insecurity.

Literally same character

Togashi's edgelords are still in HxH

Bakugou is one step above Mineta as the worst character in the series.

And you have shit taste.

These niggas been around since the 90s. I believe OP was talking about modern anime/manga that came out in the last five years not ongoing series that came out when being an edgelord was popular.

>Stereotypical school bully is a edgelord done right.
What? Did you just say that?

i stand with this guy. interesting digits too

Dude Bakugou has no reason to be an edgelord. He's only one because Hori decided he is.(even his proto design was a normal guy with normal personality)
How you think that's "edge done right" is beyond me.

>whitehaired redeyed edgelord dragging a practically naked loli around

>nice kid who wants to spend time with his little brother and his friends
>edgelord
??????

>How you think that's "edge done right" is beyond me

the only way i see it is the fact that you can see him grow out of it, he still spergs a lot but is not screaming kill and threatening everyone like he is vegeta that much anymore

>the only way i see it is the fact that you can see him grow out of it

>literally hasn't grown out of it at all

I hope edgelords are still a thing because I really love those characters. They tend to be sensitive and thoughtful unlike your typical manly brute.

>emo culture
>culture

The best ones are kinda like tsunderes but their version of dere is brutally murdering anyone who fucks with their homies.

have you been reading it? after the rescue he has calmed a fucking lot

>told your the best as a kid
>builds up ego
>sees others as weaklings
>the one you considers the weakest helps you
>makes you doubt if you're the best if you need help from weaklings
It's nice that the viewer isn't constantly reminded about this, causing others to view things from another perspective

You know that's only a figure of speech, right?

The reason edgelords are usually shit is because they almost always have no reason at all to be edgelords, like their sob story will be about something everybody experiences like a family member or friend dying tragically or something, they are never deserving of the sheer edgelordery they exhibit.

There are honestly a few brilliant edgelord characters out there, Ichise from Texhnolyze for example, but most are so badly written they are subconsciously dismissed by the audience before they even have a chance to explain why they are edgelords, because the reason is almost always fucking stupid and boring and gay.

interesting

>And you have shit taste.

says the guy defending Bakugou

First time I've heard of it as a figure of speech, after people kept using that it with anything negative on the western world.

Yeah, I love the tsundere ones. I think my favorites are ones who grown cynical facing the darkness of the world but then soon finds characters he can truly be friends with and learns to open up.

Hori can't write for shit and that's why Bakugou is shit. His and Deku's backstory is jury rigged together and only works if you ignore how dumb and improbable all the events that take place are. For comparison, Inasa's flashback was just as dumb as Baku and Deku's.

Inasa'a flashback was absolutely embarassing.

Yeah, same here. Edgelords are just simply people who are just too pure and attuned the world around them, hence their edginess

Straight Outta Deviantart

>edgelord gets a qt genki gf

this is my fetish.

Reminds me of Vincent and Yuffie

>IMG_

nah that's not edgy, he doesn't even wear anything black.

In no way would I consider Sasuke 'edge done right' but yet, I'm pretty sure having my entire family murdered isn't something that everyone has experienced. Your logic is flawed.

>edgelord gets a cute genki gf and his edgy ways are kinda fixed
>she gets brutally murdered for a dumb reason
SEEEEEEDS

Sasuke's problem isn't his motives, it's the lack of writing skills and the inconsistency of the development of his character

>Muh Seeds
Fuck, the only bad part of that show. That was so fucking stupid.

It obviously takes more than just a proper tragedy to write an edgelord properly but I'm saying the major stumbling block is the tragedy itself in most cases.
>muh parents died
>muh waifu died
>muh friends died
None of these are good enough to justify what most would consider being an edgelord, these things literally happen to everyone at some point, but for the most part edgelords are written with at one of these things as justification for being a perma-depressed psychopath.

Any recommendations?

Bakugou isn't even edgy. He's just an asshole.

he's top 3 worst characters ever written in a big franchise(anime, vidya), there's nothing going for him, he didn't get a redemption arc, and now it's too late for him to get it, his predetermined love interest is borderline retarded and it's his fault, as soon as he had a shot of returning to the village and just try to rebuild his clan, he decides to destroy the village that his brother gave his life and all his clan's lives up to protect, disrespecting his wishes and basically spitting on his grave, jesus I can keep going but this shit is too old and this is something we all know, calling sasuke a good edgelord is like calling isekais the best genre.

to be fair most people don't have their brother murder their entire family and clan for cartoonishly sociopathic reasons

>Edgelords aren't popular anymore
>Violent bitch tsundere shits are as popular as ever

FUCKING JAPAN

STOP WITH THE DERANGED CUNTS

Would this be a good egdelord story?
> two OP mages defeat apocalyptic beast; seal its power, one a total bro and the other a complete edgelord
>when everyone is celebrating, one of the 2 mages kills the other and absorbs his power and the apocalyptic beast's essence, becoming nigh-divine in power in the process
> declared himself God-Emperor, and says he is doing this because conflict alllowed the apocalyptic beast to escape its previous confinement, so by being civilization's immortal enemy, he will reduce the amount of conflict
>this is BS of course
>although civilization of the world is unified, two main factions emerge: those who want to accept the God-Emeperor's rule, and those who want to fight him
>among the 'war with God-Emperor faction' there is tension over who is responsible for the current situation
>eventually, as conflict with God-Emperor goes on, tension among factions reaches a breaking point; there is now a civil war between them
>Due to finally having some time to introspect and be alone God-Emperor calms down, becomes depressed and horrified at previous and current actions and what they have lead to
> Through introspection, God-Emperor's past is revealed; it is quite messed up, but I have not thought of the details yet
>God-Emperor struggles with trying to lead faction of civilization accepts his rule, clashes with destructive personality
> Eventually GE becomes so overwhelmed by situation and depressed that when he becomes aware of plot to assassinate him via poison, does not do anything to stop it
> final episode has him eating poisoned food, ambiguous wheather he lives or dies

I consider Oreki as an edgelord but some might not agree with me.
Him and Chitanda are literal sex, anyway.

>done right

He's a conceited asshole who strives to be number one and his potential to become a powerhouse paired with his audacity is feared by both friend and foe in his Universe

>Is the edgelord archetype literally dead?

Tokyou Ghoul is keeping it alive, chapter after chapter, a new edgelord arrives

He's not even an edgelord.

what is an "edgelord"?

Shigaraki?

Impossible to have an edgelord character because people will immediately want him to have character development to stop being edgy.

>implying that's bad
>implying we cant enjoy his autistic edginess before he gets a development just fine

Temporary or intermittent edginess is the only excusable edginess honestly. When it becomes a permanent trait it just gets fucking obnoxious and unrealistic.

It might be a good YA novel but it'd make a shit anime.

NOT a stereotypical school bully who flaunts his power around like a dick to feel better than all the losers and gets butthurt when he finds out that loser kid he's been bullying turns out to have a power as well.

That asshole is just pathetic.

This happens in Rave and Kenichi (the strongest disciple or something like that) the edgelord gets beaten by MC, joins his crew and fucks MCs sister

But he can still be edgy no? and if he's edgy and powerful, then he's an edgelord

To this day I think one of the best Edgelords ever written is Akito from Fruits Basket

>be late teens
>part of a family curse that somehow you end up eating all of the shit from
>already dying because of said curse
>not even leaving your room, just sitting there wasting away & waiting for death
>become an absolute asshole to everyone because you're not even living
>eventually lose all hope
>secretly just scared shitless to die alone

The only edgy character i ever liked was tomoko

How is he edgy? He's never even shown any dark cynical beliefs?

Wouldn't Kaneki qualify as a recent edgelord?

I'm trying to think of a female edgelord, do they exist?

Gon is edgier than Killua, he's just pragmatic

I unironically like edgelord like Shieldbro

Yes, but TG:re isn't over yet and I'm not touching it until all the threads have dried up

here's a tough question. is there a character edgier than gon?

AkG and its spinquel

It's more important for male characters to show their sensitive side in manga, that's why we get more male edgelords.

The overall attitude that comes with the edginess is usually very tough and manly, so obviously less suiting for females.

He's always barking like a dog, telling people to go fuck themselves.
He told Deku to kill himself.
His expressions to beating people are always ominous.
He's edgy to the point where Shigaraki, the edge king, wanted to recruit him as a villain.

That's just severe autism and being an asshole.

Being an asshole is edgy, or to put apply it more specifically, being an asshole is a common trait in edgy characters

The fact that Bakugou is actually tactical about his decisions already erases him from the edgelord possibility.

Tokiyomi is "edgy". He sulks a lot, his room is like entering a medieval Hot Topic. But even if he's pretty "emo" I think he's only edgy on the surface.
He's a good boy deep down, so even if he has his dark brooding antics, Tokiyomi is not an edgelord, or a genuine edgelord like Shigaraki and Stain.

>Bakugou is actually tactical about his decisions already erases him from the edgelord possibility.

So is Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho, and he's a classical "edgelord".

Hiei is mostly doing whatever the fuck he wants.
He has killed a lot of people for simply annoying him and he was basically a fucking murderer before he joined Yusuke's group.

...

Is there a better edgelord, or is he the peak?

that's bleeding edge my friend

He's just an asshole.

An edgelord is a character who is consumed by darkness and must walk the dark path. They feel outside the normal society who can be happy and have friends. They feel too distanced from that, their life has become one about vengeance and gaining power to achieve their ambitions.

check out Dungeon Seeker. MC is pure edge, it's terrible.

You can have a sliding scale of edginess.

This.

Bakugou is way too sociable to be an edgelord though. He doesn't walk the dark path.

Tokoyami is chuuni, that's a whole different stereotype.

Stain is the edgelord.

Wrong one

Yukio Okumurura has been so edgy for years that last chapter he literally went out on his best friend's front step after she tried to comfort him and shot himself in the head

And he's the most popular character in the series

Please, stop. I hate having to discuss why Gon isn't an edgelord every single time someone confuses his downward spiral in chimera ants and makes Gon to be an amoral character.

Edgelords are supposed to be about the dark side of the world and being consumed by it. Whether it be the absence of love or falling into despair, their life has become one of cynicism.

Bakugou is just a bully who wants everyone to suck his dick. He's still able to live a normal, sociable life.

He tells deku to kill himself

yeah, because he's a bully. I understand now that being a dick alone does not encapsulate the term edgelord

Fact is, if you can still live a normal, happy and sociable life, you're not an edgelord
