What is wrong with this fucking country. My girlfriend has a spine injury and every spine specialist in the city is out of network, and she pays $500 premiums. That is $6,000 a year. I just checked out of frustration what her income tax burden would be in Ontario vs where we live now (a red state mind you).

She'd be saving 2,000 by living in Canada, and actually be able to see a specialist without paying more out the ass than she already is for fucking NOTHING. What the FUCK is wrong with out healthcare system.

She got hit by a commercial vehicle who was totally at fault, which would normally be great for a settlement which would cover all of her costs except the specifics of the company policy and the case mean they have an argument that they aren't liable for the driver's usage of their vehicle, and the judge involved is a conservative judge with a history of siding with businesses on stuff like this.

We live in a country where a big corporation can hit you with a car they own which breaks your spine, then they can argue they weren't at fault because of what their driver was doing, the judge is likely to back them up, and then the laws of the state cap what the insurance company pays out at a meager amount despite the scope of the injury.

And then you pay absurd amounts to a health insurance company that fights to not give you any healthcare because you're just a cost to them, one of the biggest insurers in the state, and they don't even have a single spine specialist in network for the biggest city in that state, one of the top 10 metropolitan areas in the richest country on earth. I'd rather willingly pay the government to give me access to the entire medicare network, but that option was even taken out of Obamacare by healthcare interests because they know they couldn't compete with an insurance plan that actually gave you fucking value.

I'm actually confused about that. Our lawyer initiated that, we're trying to figure out what is going on. I know the other side felt confident because of our judge and their argument and moved for a really low settlement, so our lawyer said he was working on countering them. We weren't under the impression we were going to go to trial, but suddenly we got an email about it. The lawyer was referred to us by a family friend that is a judge, so he seems legit, but he also suddenly had health problems of his own and we were actually worried he is trying to clear his cases out to retire. Though there are other attorneys at the office so that doesn't make total sense either.
