Because it's a decent scifi story? It has dry execution and dips in quiality once the trinity siblings are introduced but you're in for a rude awakening if you think you'll find many better anime of that nature made after it.

00 was many millennial & Gen Z's first gendumb due to it being the first gundam broadcast in HD. It's really mediocre series with squandered potential, but some people hype ti up purely due to nostalgia.

First half of SEED is just a retread of 0079 so it's automatically better even if everything shits the bed once the Freedom enters the picture.

0079 is the best entry in the series, and it is also the shortest main series entry. If you can't stand to watch the whole series then you should just give up on gundam.

The first season of Thunderbolt was at least entertaining. Besides it's not as big a disappointment since people already spoiled that it goes downhill after that. So yes season two was shit compared to season one but everyone here already expected it so it's not like we had high hopes for it.

The 0079 movies remove all the shit pacing and stupid filler they packed into 0079, there's really no reason not to just watch the movies.
This is coming from a guy who actually watched the entirety of 0079, then the movies, lest you think I'm some movie-only fag.

Season 1 was really good though, except Saji's circlejerk. Then season 2 came in which is very mediocre if not bad then the movie came in which is a disaster.
Too bad, I really like the designs compared to other series.
I'm still salty about Gundam X.

Try watching the rest of the franchise and you'll start seeing 00 with better eyes.

The only way to have an honest opinion on gundam is to watch most of them, and find out how they work.
The most important ones to watch are 0079, Zeta, CCA, and the UC OVA series. ZZ explains the newtype bullshit that happens in CCA, but you don't necessarily need to watch it.
The best show to follow the gundam formula is Code Geass.

First season of 00 was fucking great. Easily the best AU Gundam after Turn A. Second season was pretty average but it had its moments. Movie was shit. Still a really fun ride overall though.

Its arguably the best gundam if you look at the general theme and idea of it. Also finally a no-nonsense gundam pilot, which is what I really wanted out of this series for so long, after all these years.
Season 1 is among the upper echelon's of gundam.
