If the anime is going with the Japari Park = Japan (or a replica) then it looks like S1 and most likely S2 aren't taking place on the mainland.

They actually mention the "Kyoshu" name (Japari Park's Kyushu) in the final episode as the region from season 1, so it's pretty much confirmed they're sticking with it.

Season 2 could be in Japari Park's mainland though. The bridge shown at the end of season 1 connects to mainland in actual Japan.

Well it looks like island they're heading to at the end is supposed to be Shikoku. But considering how small it is they might end up traveling to the mainland at some point in S2.

My guess is they will travel around, meet new friends, solve troubles and have fun, only finding whereabouts of humans and maybe some mirai recordings at the end.
If it isn't broke don't fix it.

But we know next to nothing about Ceruleans or humans. Just that humans aren't in Japari park, and Ceruleans tend to crowd around humans. For all we know Tatsuki can decide to unearth some game lore and blind side us with it during season 2 (Like making them show signs of intelligence, evolution, or go full fanwank and have Cerval appear).

If humans are capable enough, they should have retaken Japari Park after 2nd gen. Why didn't they? Did they hide away from Ceruleans?

Is there? There's evidence that something bad went down on Japari island, but I've never seen anything that points directly to humanity being extinct. Mirai's last recording seems to indicate the opposite, they evacuated Japari park and are safe on some other landmass.

I know the show being post apocalyptic is one of the draw, but with what we know of the story it actually doesn't make sense.

It may actually be an issue of money. Yes, the park has a miracle substance that turns animals in to people and bring dead and even extinct animals back to life, but the island is also filled with bizarre blob monsters that want to eat people. Not matter how many times they're eradicated the blobs come back and will be guaranteed to be a constant threat.

I may be that the powers in charge figured that it wasn't worth the trouble and just decided to let it be. The bomber points to something ridiculous happening on the island, and it's likely not a good idea to open up a zoo/amusement park in an area where you need to send military craft of that caliber.

My guess is that Japari got the same treatment than Jurasic Park, they could take back the park easily but they won't since there is no way things are going to end well if it reopens.
