For its changes for what I have gathered although they didn't really bother me, I wanted something different. Eva being more action like isn't that bad after all.
Although Kozo's explanation of everything was a bit too heavy handed for me.

Because it could have been totally avoided if they had just explained things to Shinji.

If you really think about it, 3.0 is inverted Eva. The characters (aside from Shinji) go from having their own emotions, desires, and anxities to being over the top shounen heroes with one dimensional personalities. Asuka goes from being tsundere to being aggressive and dominant. Rei went from being a girl who doesn't understand her own humanity to a living doll with no personality or emotions at all. The stupid shit like the whale, Kozo information dropping everything, and Kowaru stupidly falling for Gendo's obvious trick are all pretty obvious and over the top. It's not a mistake, especially by a director like Anno.

See above. 3.0 was trying to be typical mecha shounen nonsense, just from Shinji's perspective. Notice how Shinji is the only character who stays exactly the same between 2.0 and 3.0. Everyone else turns into a stereotypical shounen characters. I mean Asuka says "the curse of the Eva". Come on.

It killed EVA

Why would you think that?

Many probably just dislike it for being too different from the original unlike the two first movies.

I like the beginning, the rest of the story is too static. Its too much Shinji reacting to the situation.

The fact that everyone, including Kaworu and Shinji, seemed to believe that what happened truly was Shinji's fault.
I was fine with the entire world blaming him for it but Misato and other recurring characters who were present when Shinji started the 3rd Impact had no right to blame him for anything. Hell. Misato even lauded and praised him for fighting back and wanting to save Rei.

Everyone was just going along with that and it pissed me that no one called out the obvious bullshit.
Hell, Kaworu even says he stopped Unit 1 and so the stuff happened that later, which Shinji had nothing to do with, was what caused the actual Impact.

Everyone treated him like that, and didn't call out the obvious bullshit because they were all written to act like shounen characters. It starts to show up in 2.0 (Especially during the fight with Zeruel). By 3.0 they've gone full over the top mecha.

Misatao cheered him on BEFORE the third impact happened. It's only natural they'd blame him and be cautious when he was the sole reason the third impact took place.

How was he the sole reason though? The near awakening was stopped by Kaworu and at the time Lilith was still on the cross, there were no failures of infinity, and there were two more angels. All this happened after he merged with unit 01.

Giant flying dick, nothing happens, stupid Eva designs, no goat.

Because it created more questions than solve
And the piano scene
And how everyone was asshole to kid for fighting an angel.

As far as I remember he was the reason it even started. Him being in an Eva. Even if they didn't spite him from that, they were surely scared of him, hence the necklace. Misato could have killed him as well when she had the chance, but she pretty clearly was apprehensive about it.

>It's only natural they'd blame him
If they were one dimensional background characters who fill out the role of being part of the crowd forming opinion, you mean.
They wanted him to do it just as bad as Shinji himself wanted. So even if he's the direct cause, they have no moral right to blame him whatsoever.
Again, I would've been fine with them blaming him in public yet sympathizing with him in private but nope. That's not how it went.

That's without even taking into consideration the fact that it wasn't even Shinji who set off the actual 3rd Impact. The trigger he set off was stopped by Kaworu.

>And how everyone was asshole to kid for fighting an ange
They weren't. They were cautious, and for good reason. When they weren't getting ready for a battle they were explaining things to him. The only one who was mean was Asuka, which isn't a surprise.

They don't need a moral right. They just need trauma and blame. And yes, they are very one dimensional. 3.0 is extremely obvious with how many tropes it uses. It has extended mecha scenes powering up the ship, which has a ridiculious design and stupid amounts of flair. Misato acts like your typical GAR space captain, etc. In 1.0 they were relatively normal compared to the anime, in 2.0 they were more shounen, in 3.0 it was over the top GaoGaiGar levels of shounen. This wasn't a fluke.

>Again, I would've been fine with them blaming him in public yet sympathizing with him in private but nope. That's not how it went.
He was the trigger that caused the third impact? Do you know how traumatic surviving the end of the world would be? It's one of Misato's defining traits. She was so traumatized by the 2nd impact that she could barely cope with it. Now she lived through a third impact, as did everyone else. It's natural they would be apprehensive around Shinji. They never treated him badly, they just treated him with caution. They were even explaining the situation to him before Rei caused them to go into battle.

>That's without even taking into consideration the fact that it wasn't even Shinji who set off the actual 3rd Impact. The trigger he set off was stopped by Kaworu.
Shinji was the trigger. They say this in 3.0 and 2.0. Knowing that, it's pretty easy to guess Kowaru used him to start the 3rd impact. Anyone there would have made the connection between Kowaru's mysterious eva stabbing 01, the 3rd impact stopping, and Kowaru using 01 to start the third impact. You don't know *why* he started it again after stopping, but we know he did. Shinji was the trigger, that'd be obvious to them all.

Bad writing is what it is, not some callback to ancient tropes.

>they just treated him with caution
Ah yes, putting the blame of destroying the entire world on a kid who never even wanted to be a pilot wasn't "bad" at all.
Let's just ignore how had it not been for Shinji, the Angel would've simply started its own Impact which would've probably caused humanity in it's entirety to be extinct.
Kissing his feet and worshiping him is what would've been appropriate.

>Shinji was the trigger
Still a misconception. Forcing someone to do something doesn't mean they're the trigger. It's the one doing the forcing. The Impact that Shinji started was stopped. Anything that followed was someone else triggering it.

>Bad writing is what it is, not some callback to ancient tropes.
So you're saying it was all just chance that the characters are basically the polar opposite of what they were in 1.0? And that Shinji being the only character who stayed the same wasn't a concious choice? This isn't a fan fiction, this is a professional production directed by a Anno, with a giant budget. They had years to go over every second of the writing and storyboard. If there is one thing Anno is known for, it's how detailed his direction is. The bullshit you saw in 3.0 was completely intentional, and not bad writing at all.

>Yes, putting the blame of destroying the entire world on a kid who never even wanted to be a pilot wasn't "bad" at all.
Like I said, even if you assume they didn't blame him, they knew he was still the trigger that caused the 3rd impact. They were treating him with caution. Treating people with caution is not the same as being an asshole to them.

>Let's just ignore how had it not been for Shinji, the Angel would've simply started its own Impact which would've probably caused humanity in it's entirety to be extinct.
They wouldn't know that. They just know Shinji somehow started the 3rd impact, and then someone else stopped it. It started again, no doubt using Shinji, so they know he is capable of starting another impact.

Accidentally his send too soon.

>Still a misconception.
It's not. They explicitly state in both 2.0 and 3.0 that Shinji was the trigger. That alone makes him dangerous, even if they aren't upset at him.

>Forcing someone to do something doesn't mean they're the trigger
He was unconscious by the time the 3rd Impact started in full. It doesn't matter what Shinji thought or did, what matters is that he, when paired with Unit 01, was enough to cause the 3rd Impact to start, even without him doing anything apparently.

>This isn't a fanfiction
It doesn't need to be a fanfiction to be as bad as one. I am completely welcome to eating my own words if 4.0 ever touches back on this topic and Misato and co. get called out for their bullshit but unless and until that happens 3.0 is definitely a proponent of bad writing.

>Treating people with caution is not the same as being an asshole to them.
I agree. They were doing the latter.

>They wouldn't know that.
What do you even mean they wouldn't know that? That's exactly the fucking reason why they're killing the goddamn Angels.
Angels + Reaching Lilith = Apocalypse

>It doesn't need to be a fanfiction to be as bad as one
If you think the writing, objectively, is bad, then you need to provide examples of it. The ones you've provided are usually just misconceptions, not bad writing.

>I agree. They were doing the latter.
They absolutely weren't. The worst they said was "we don't need you" when he asked to pilot an Eva. And that was as they were preparing for a battle, typically not a great time to have a conversation. When the battle was over, they DID have a conversation, until Rei caused another battle, where they once again had to put Shinji on hold and prepare to fight. They didn't treat him badly at all, they even let him know the necklace would kill him if if it detected him causing another Impact. Katsuragi even says "You must be disorientated", which is empathy for his situation.

>What do you even mean they wouldn't know that? That's exactly the fucking reason why they're killing the goddamn Angels.
Angels + Reaching Lilith = Apocalypse
The end of 2.0 specifically showed Lillith still on the cross. Despite this Shinji was able to start the 3rd Impact. Gendo, Kozo, and Kaiji were not surprised by this either. There is no way Ritusko and Misato would have known why the 3rd Impact was starting without Lilith. The obvious reason to them would be Shinji, which is confirmed when Gendo makes Shinji cause it again in 3.0.

Because the first two were shit compared to the original, but not actively terrible like 3.0 was.

3.0 was the best of the Rebuilds by a huge margin. 1.0 was just a simplified retelling, 2.0 was super cut down and had progressively more and more shounen shit. 3.0 takes the shounen stuff to the extreme and is basically Anti-Eva. Everything is flipped around.

WHERE'S 4.0 ANNO
YOU SAID THERE WOULD BE SAABISU

I think people hate 3.0 because it wasn't what they expected. People thought we'd be getting a continuation of the plot, not a time skip.
The time skip was a great idea in that it allowed us to see how the fight with the angels and SEELE affected the cast without Shinji there, but it also created this bizarre atmosphere where no one really knows whats going on and the film never slows down enough for you to get an explanation in full. At least that's my take on it

You'd be right

Good taste

Because its a dumb actionmovie?

Because nobody explains anything in it.

People hate Eva in general so it should be expected that any new entry will also be hated. Especially if you add on the "everything new is bad" thing that some people have.

4.0 needs to hurry the fuck up.

Didn't shinji fuck up at the end even after being told not to do the thing he was doing? That's why I hated it.

At least he's still cockteasing us

What do you think if it is confirmed that 3.0+1.0 is a sequel instead of a reboot.

Here's a better question: why do people like 1.0 and 2.0?

Well i can understand 1.0, it's basically the first part of Eva with new animation.

>new animation
The aesthetic of the original NGE shits all over the Rebuild movies and the new animation is pale in comparison to EoE.

I liked it

After watching 2.0 and 3.0 a lot of the stuff can be dismissed as stuff backported to having happened during the second impact but there is some stuff that still implies it being a sequel and the Rebuilds being sequels was my initial thought and still what I'm expecting.

Because people are too stupid to understand it.

Anno is so fucked with 4. He's tackling End of Evangelion again. Is there anything he can do that won't absolutely destroy his reputation? I have mixed feelings on it but that movie is definitely lightning in a bottle that can never be replicated. It's so beloved and hated.

>3.0 takes the shounen stuff to the extreme and is basically Anti-Eva
I fail to see how this doesn't make it worse than the first two. Just because it's supposedly "deconstructing" Eva doesn't make the plot any less stupid.

>Tfw to intelligent

We are at what now? 5th Impact?

It fell into the trap of everything needing to be bigger, flashier and louder which in terms just makes everything look cheap and uninteresting.

If it's not a sequel then fourth. We have the first and second happening like they always did, then Shinji did a (near) third impact before the time jump. Then the one happening now is fourth.

>Adding 10 new characters when you don't even have enough time to develop the original cast
T-Thanks anno.

3.0 is the only good Rebuild. 1.0 is a shitty retelling of the original and 2.0 is offensively bad with how it treats the characters.

3.0 actually tries to do something of it's own. Shinji and Kaworu have a good character dynamic which carries the film, and the film is also great visually. Otherwise it has the same problems as 2.0, 2.0 just had worse visuals and lacked something to salvage the movie like Shinji/Kaworu's relationship.

Rei had some character in 2.0 but it was completely destroyed in 3.0, Asuka is still a completely ruined version of herself just like 2.0, Misato is somebody, characters like Ritsuko and Kaiji pretty much don't matter anymore. The plot is super convoluted and makes little sense, and 4.0 has to be a mindblowing masterpiece in order to salvage the films, or heck, even be good on it's own.

I did like Kaworu and Shinji's bond over music.
I don't think I've ever seen something quite like that in Anime, and nowadays no director bothers to flesh out the male relationships.

For me it was that now Third Impact (or 5th impact???) won't be as damaging/intense since everybody's already dead

shit taste i guess

3.0 is the best rebuild desu

pic related and other things that shit on the original

1.0: what the "reactionary" fans want eva to be
2.0: what the mecha action fans want eva to be
3.0: what the bishonen fans want eva to be
4.0: what Anno wants eva to be

not that user, but I won't argue with you there.
though seeing EVA again in a slightly different, but still same format is still kinda cool.

The things I hated about the reboot were the new berserk scene at the end, any scene with Mari in it, and the fact that they changed Asuka's last name for pretty much no reason.

That's actually a decent summary.
Though I've a feeling what Anno wants it to be is probably going to be nothing like any of us want it.

I find that the EVAS look live very "2D". Like if they were painted with thick paint, with barely any shadow or lightning. Like a paper doll.
And it abuses of the armless front sommersault flip. That again makes it feel more like a puppet than something who moves by itself.

when did this one show up? I don't remember it

The berserk shit with Mari was retarded. It served basically no purpose and doesn't really make sense that there would be a built in berserk trigger that you can use whenever you want. Mari in general in part 2 didn't really serve much purpose iirc.

>Mari in general in part 2 didn't really serve much purpose iirc
SELL MORE MERCH

I think it was during an attack on the flying ship

2.0 raised the bar too high, as it vastly improved the 2nd and best half of the original TV series. 3.0 was supposed to be an improved End of Eva and we got "dude gay piano lmao" instead.

Mari by herself serves no purpose in the rebuilds at all.
you could take her out and it would pretty much be the same except probably less annoying.
Also yeah the Berserk mode in general was stupid and can't say I'm a fan of the God-mode thing that caused the third impact either.

Maybe I'm jaded. Maybe I just want something to hate on.
But EVAs aren't fucking toys. they aren't supposed to be 'fun'.
Pic related cemented my feelings on Mari instantly.
>"oh shit it hurts"
>"oh but it's fun so who cares~"

Well I can see her being a new pilot after Shinji can't do it anymore after 2.0 but she didn't really do anything in 2.0 and it would have been pretty much identical with just Asuka, Shinji, and Rei.

Nah, the rebuilds are worse except for animation quality. I don't hate them like some people do but if I were to show someone Eva I would always show them the show over the rebuilds.

2.0 was FUCK YEAH, KICK SOME ALIEN ASS IN YOUR ROBOT! WOO YEAH SHOUT MORE! POWER OF WILLPOWER TO PIERCE THE SKIES!
I liked it being balls to the wall and Shinji fighting for his waifu like a badass...
But it sure wasn't what made EVA great.

>it wasn't what made EVA great
this 100x

>Why do people hate 3.0 again?

There's no reason for it to exist. The only reason the 'plot' happens is because people can't take 2 minutes to talk to Shinji and are angry at him for no reason. All of the 'subversion' and differences really feel like they exist for the sake of existing, the exposition isn't organic at all and really makes you wish we saw the original story instead of this plan-B abortion.

Cat mechas are stupid too.

Also, Mari.

2.0 is objectively the best rebuild because it embraced tropes. 3.0 tries too hard to be different and comes off as laughable.

youtube.com/watch?v=QqjPW1HHyAo

I didn't understand it honestly.

Is Mari the Jar jar Bings of Eva? Has anyone tried making a version without her?

Would that make it better?

>W-what's happening?!
>T-this is all different!
>I wanted the s-same exact FRIGGIN story as da original tv show!

The only part in which she's actually somewhat a part of is when she's telling shinji to do a thing at the end of 2.0
Other than that I'm fairly positive you could cut her out of pretty much every single scene of 2.0 and especially 3.0.
She actually does LESS in 3.0 than she does in 2.0

The only thing Mari exists for is to make Asuka less of a bitch due to having a lesbian friend now, that's why there's so much gay porn of them going at it with each on taking turns being the dom. Still, that "curse of eva" shit so they could remain looking teenagers physically while having the minds of adults was so fucking stupid, I'm convinced everything about Rebuilt was Anno's final fuck you to people who didn't like Eva the first time. It's funny, Eva was nothing more than an outlet for a horribly depressed man and to this very day people still can't decide on what the overall message of the series was or if the ending was suppose to be horribly depressing, horribly bittersweet or just cynical and mean spirited. There's a reason why there's never been expansions on this universe, a direct sequel to clear up things or spin offs with the cast being nothing but school kids with watered down versions of their problems like Fate.

I liked Asuka's redesign. She looked even sexier than usual!

Is that why Mari can't keep her hands off her?

>20 minute long transformation sequence
>turning cool as fuck bio-gundams into a gay flying ship
I literally can't think of anything that happened in 3.0 that wasn't made to sell toys or pander to degenerate otakus. Mari literally exists for lesbian porn with Asuka. Kaworu and Shinji forsakes all ambiguity and gets really really gay really fast. And Rei, my god, they decided to remove all of her personality to fulfill the trope she's famous for, taking it to a new retarded extreme.

All this talk about Mari and Asuka porn, is it any good? Be honest. Does Asuka's crazy ass voice actor like it?

Stupid whale ship was super bad.

Asuka's VA loves asuka and no one else. Self-Waifu Paradox

>we will never see an anime with shepherd-Gendo
>Kaji's fate will never be properly fleshed out
>the Nerv staff will never work together to escape imprisonment by the world's military
all of these would have been so much more interesting to see than what we got

>Just because it's supposedly "deconstructing" Eva doesn't make the plot any less stupid.
>deconstructing a deconstruction
>not stupid

It's the continuation of eva turning into a generic modern anime. Don't let the "suffering" fool you, the characters are paper thin, the drama is terrible and the pandering is just as blatant, only it's directed to fujoshi more than waifufags this time. But there's still a lot of forced fanservice and blatant attempts to sell new asuka/rei/mari merch. They even gave you Touji's sister instead of the guy himself because he's not a cute girl they can sell.

Because it's shit senpai. 2.0 had its problems, but 3.0 got way worse. Anno couldn't think of how to followup the ending to 2.0, so he asspulls some massive timeskip and craps out a lazy, extended version of episode 24.

It brought nothing new to the table. The end of 2.0 promised that nothing would ever be the same. Instead, 3.0 slams the reset button and we get ep 24 redux. Plus, its not clear why I should care about a world in which there are maybe 1000 people left alive, all of who are assholes.

Because it's shit just like the series

3.0+1.0 is going to be the Half Life 3 of anime.

It'll have a dyson sphere?

I actually read an article or review somewhere that said the ShinjixKaworu gayness was toned down for 3.0 but I also don't think that's really true.

you are everything that's wrong with anime today

They abandoned the psychological shit for crazy science fiction action nonsense with no discernible direction.

I'm not speaking for Sup Forums. This is just my opinion

It wasn't that bad. But it did kinda shit on the development the characters had had thus far. We got to see their stronger versions deal with pretty much the same problems in a much better way. I was happy to see how misato tried inspiring shinji instead of manipulating him to pilot the eva, specially for the cube fight in 1.0. All those little bits of development were flushed down the toilet for 3.0

Playing the piano together is not gay

It was likely Selee triggering the third impact the same way it happened in EoE. It just happens offscreen between 2.0 and 3.0. Shinji isn't to blame at all, he caused a near third impact but was stopped as we saw.

Why wasn't the snow red?

what did you dislike about 2.0?

But what actually happened was that he nearly killed all of humanity because of his selfishness and FUCK YEAH KICK SOME ALIEN ASS IN YOUR ROBOT

It is exactly what eva did in neon genesis lol. Real shit consequences happened and the characters had to deal with them in 3.0

Does it even have those introspection sequences that were in the original? Because those are what sold it for me

Blood dries, it doesn't evaporate

>rebuild series is almost 10 years old now

Fuck the passage of time

>implying Shinji had any idea that he would cause third impact
>implying saving a precious friend is selfishness
Shinji literally did nothing wrong. Everyone post time-skip is a dick who can't even take the time to explain what happened to him.

I bet in the end Shinji's actions at the end of 2.0 are what save the day, Rei's soul hidden in his cassette player or whatever.

Blood does freeze though, so why is there no blood glaciers in the arctic? Literally all the ocean is blood now but the ice isn't?

Its okay made more questions than answered.
>kissanime

>liking the rebuilds
>anyone

I only watched 1.0 so far, and yes, even before than they happened in the first time.
They dont have the same impact though.
