Remember, all forms of bigotry and discrimination (racism, classism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, and so on) exist due to ignorance and materialize as oppression. Oppression is due to ignorance. It comes from a conscious or subconscious failure to understand a person or societies immediate or distant history that has created and shaped them. It comes from a desire to preserve the self. The interplay of a multitude of histories is what makes sense of current events, and anger, confusion, and ultimately discrimination/oppression is the result of a failure to acknowledge that. I say this because we are all oppressors to varying degrees and it's important to remember this when we judge somebody based on look or style or intelligence or whatever. It's important to say this because sometimes certain cases of oppression aren't always blatantly obvious. We should try and be aware. Why? Because oppression is a symptom of capitalism and the survival of the fittest mentality that comes with it. Capitalism is about individualism which breeds competition, kills community, and feeds on oppression. The most obvious case of oppression that often flies under the radar, which inspired me to write this, is ableism (or mentalism?), although numerous examples that aren't cases of ableism exist, and the fact that it seems common to call people stupid or laugh at 'stupid people' when they do something differently or more inefficiently than you would.

It seems that there is a comedic culture that literally laughs at people who may actually genetically have a lower IQ or do 'dumb' things due to a variety of reasons (numerous mental health issues come to mind). You are an asshole when you do this, and it's ignorant. You are abusing a perceived position of power that only exists because the system we are operating in, that you fight against, created that position for it's own benefit. Capitalism benefits when we become oppressors. We start playing the game when we become oppressors. You also make yourself a target when you're an oppressor. It's important to note that oppressors can't be oppressed on the grounds by which they're oppressing since they've created the power dynamic they are abusing. Reverse racism is bullshit. Reverse sexism is bullshit. If you have to say reverse it's bullshit. I'm not preaching sympathy for the perpetuators of this design. Fuck them. Anyway, I say all this because I want a future that genuinely builds community and togetherness for us, not them. Things are looking bleak right now. Remember that no one is operating outside the system, so we are all inherently shitty, so be sympathetic (within reason). We need to work together and call one another on our shit and create important dialogue to change our language. Stop calling people dumb. Stop discriminating. Don't put those who are dealing with just as much if not more shit than you down. Try to be understanding. Be a good friend. Love one another. RESPECT one another. Life is short.
