Only a couple days later did I realize that one was a statistic about things that could randomly happen to you, while the other was a statistic about something you can control that you can reduce your personal chance to zero for (by putting your gun in a fucking safe unlike the parents whose kids shot themselves). The study actually found that homicide victims were 2.something times more likely to own a gun then the general population and then said with zero support that this somehow means owning a gun makes you that much more likely to be a victim. Who cares about cause and effect.
