Why is gender bending looked so down upon by the rest of the anime community? The last series to feature it in a major capacity was Twintails a couple years back, and even then it was just a way to make sentai twintails.

fetish-y

Because the jokes are too fucking obvious and so is the plot. Even with a parody anime like Twintails it still plays just as expected
>oh no I am a woman now
>time to look at my tits
>time to fall in love and fell confused
etc etc etc.

So are shows with lolis or gals or NTR. But you guys love them.

Agreed. There needs to be a series which does things a little better.

Because it's heavily featured in hentai, I guess, even though it's not that common outside of it, even compared to other fetish-y stuff.

>you guys
not Borg

>oh no aliens are invading
>time to run and hide
>oh no they caught me
>oh they couldn't stay here all along we win xD
You can meme-trivialize any plot. Won't make what you're doing any more substantive.

It's an odd premise, and while it has potential to be interesting, it's just as easy to botch completely and make a product that has less literary value than a fanfic that uses the same plot device (I'm not exaggerating that last bit, either). It's fetishy and it's very easy to leave things at that, or have it be a one off joke and nothing else.

The last thing that used this device that I read was Ore to Hero to Mahou Shoujo. I liked it quite a bit, and it's a shame the author doesn't want it to be translated.

>Why is gender bending looked so down upon by the rest of the anime community
It encouraged too many trannies

It's because people who make gender bending have a hard time making a premise that appeals to the broader community, and that's why it's either just a minor gag point or gets canned.

I don't see that.
There's an obvious gap between fiction magical transformation that the physical reality that your chromosomes are fucking XY that should kill any relation between the two.

>the rest of the anime community?
I don't even know what that's supposed to be. I'm certain I shouldn't care about their shitty opinions.

I bet it's because they didn't grow up fapping to Ranma.

Because transexuals have taken over and transexualism is not seen as something that won't lead to a happy future or something to get help for or something you grow out of.

It's seen as a real thing that needs to be respected and thus no one is willing to look and laugh at it or have fun with it(whatever that means).

So it's full on fetish material(like if was anything but) or wish fulfillment for transexuals or fap fuel for queers.

To be fair it was pretty sweet when Farscape did it. Wait would swapping bodies with your female crew member even really count.

How can genderbender make best use of it's premise without going into purely fetish territory?

What does "make use" mean? X thing happens. Then y thing happens. Things continue to happen until they stop happening.
You judge whether you found the accounted events entertaining or engaging after the fact.

It's a no win situation in my opinion.

Can make it jokey, go serious, or go porny.
All three of the above will end with a large vocal group shitting on it and the majority normals not being sure what to make of it because the transexuals have basically taken over the public conversation.

The only way to have it and not have to deal with bullshit is to have genderbend side character(s).

>There's an obvious gap between fiction magical transformation that the physical reality that your chromosomes are fucking XY that should kill any relation between the two.
unfortunately that's not the case

welcome to current year

wow you said nothing in a profoundly stupid way. the worst part is i bet you feel really fucking smart.

>You judge whether you found the accounted events entertaining or engaging after the fact.

HOW DO THEY MAKE USE OF GENDERBENDING FOR ENTERTAINING OR ENGAGING EVENTS

Well said, basically I was asking what's the best way to make use of genderbending while being appealing to a wider audience, genderbender fans like the issues that follow but clearly this doesn't appeal to everyone, and if you don't make enough use of the genderbending premise you may as well say why even bother genderbending at all?

why are you trying to ruin genderbending

Ranma 1/2 is my favourite.
