Fate/Zero

Who is the biggest, most thick-headed dipshit in the entire Fate universe and why is it Emiya Kuritsugu? He could have had a happy, fulfilling life as a family man with Iri and Ilya and decided to sacrifice his wife for some Faustian voodoo gambit made up by a bunch of senile old wizards a million years ago. If he had never participated in the holy grail war neither Irisviel, Ilyasviel or Maya would have died, Shirou could have had a normal life with his natural family, and he could have lived to a ripe old age.

Seriously, fuck Kerry.

Homunculi don't have normal lifespans at all. Iri would've died within a couple years and Ilya wouldn't have done much better. Further, the only reason he was interacting with them to begin with was because he and the Einzberns were aligned with the HGW plan. He can't oppose the Einzberns by himself effectively.

That's the whole point. He's a childish retard who has to keep killing for his goal cause once he gives up his childhood waifu and everyone he killed dying will have been for nothing. His life is one giant sunk cost fallacy.

I see what you're saying and yes Kerry is a dumb child.
But the whole reason Iri was created was to be the cup.
If he never participated Iri would have went to some Einzbern or other mercenary.

Worked for Prisma Kerry

I mean he did go, "Oh shit i have a daughter now"

I was thinking more along the lines of "Kerry gives up on being an assassin and gives the Einzberns the finger" while taking Iri and Ilya someplace where they could live a normal life.

I recently reread F/Z for some reason and he truly came across as unbearable most of the time.

I'm well aware of Prisma Ilya's existence. I'm also aware that its hot garbage.

> and decided to sacrifice his wife for some Faustian voodoo gambit

daily reminder that Iri was the one who reassured Kiritsugu about continuing the war, when the latter was at his low-point

So don't make the thread - or stupid posts - whichever applies to you

He practically shaped Iri as a person though. She was nothing before Kiritsugu and is basically a child who idolizes her parent after him.

Who's the biggest, most thick-headed dipshit on Sup Forums and why is it OP for not realizing Irisviel and Ilya are Einzberns and he was recruited and told to fuck their homonculus Irisviel specifically for the grail war?
You're an idiot.

Which is weird.
If Iri and Ilya are homoculi how the fuck did they survive long enough in Prisma?

Prisma is a shitty fanservice spin-off, I'm sure the author made some bullshit reason why they lived as long as they do just so he can have his retarded magical girl manga.

for illya though, since they didn't experiment on her as hard as they did in fsn she should be ok.

Daily reminder that Illya is the only Einzbern homunculus that can actually express real emotions.

The Fourth Holy Grail War was gonna happen no matter what. If Kerry wasn't chosen as a Master, then whoever won the Grail would've awakened Angry Manjew and brought about the end of the world.

When Kerry was first hired by the Einsberns, he immediately signed up for the chance to save the world with no care for Iri, who literally had no personality and was basically an emotionless doll. However, when Acht through Iri out in the middle of a blizzard as an endurance test Kiritsugu thought what he was doing was fucked up so he went out and saved her. Kerry then found himself empathizing with Iri and taught her about the world helped develop her personality. Before they knew it, there ended up falling in love with each other. But that was when Kerry was already in too deep and couldn't abandon the Grail War since he was already chosen as a Master.

Kerry really did want to abandon the Grail War and just live happily with Iri and Ilya, but Iri encouraged Kiritsugu to continue since he would never forgive himself for abandoning the one possible chance to save the world.

It just so happened that the Grail's power was a lie that would bring about the world's end, something that NOBODY fucking knew, not even that dipshit Old Man Acht who was responsible for summoning Avenger in the first place.

If Kerry abandoned the Grail War, then the world would have been destroyed. Ironically by stopping the Holy Grail before a wish could be granted, he actually did end up saving the world.

I don't remember this and I've read the LN

>worked in this shitty loli porn spinoff by another writer

Best Extra/Extella ship

Leysritt and Silla do...kind of.

It's only shitty because there's not enough Shirou x Ilya stuff in it/sourced by it

>fatetards

And this reason right here is why people like the OP ask the question of "why" so much.

Fate/Zero was great and all, but it left out a few major details that are key to the progression of the story, like the whole corruption of the grail thing.

It's the reason gil got to stick around.
It's the reason kirei revives.
It's the reason Kerry dies later.
It's the reason Kerry gave up his dream at the last second.
It's so important but got hardly any acknowledgement within the story itself, and thus it baffles people like the OP.

Kiritsugu did nothing wrong, and everything right.

Prisma Ilya doesn't count. And only one of them is good at pretending to have emotions.

It's almost af if Zero was a prequel meant to be read after playing the original

kek

ikr.

Sadly though, UFOTable intended Zero to be viewed first (in what later became a series) and it's primary audience are the secondaries we all know and love.

>Sadly though, UFOTable intended Zero to be viewed first (in what later became a series)
Fate/Zero anime was meant as stand alone. F/SN UBW wasn't really much of an idea until /Zero finished.
Letting Ufotable try /Zero was more or less a test to see if they could do Fate better than DEEN (if it wasn't already obvious) and Ufotable didn't want to step on DEEN's toes by being way better in every single way. That's why they still haven't announced a Fate route adaptation.

> It just so happened that the Grail's power was a lie that would bring about the world's end, something that NOBODY fucking knew, not even that dipshit Old Man Acht who was responsible for summoning Avenger in the first place.

they knew. Illya presumably knows it from them.

the thing is: the Einzberns are just so obsessed with the Grail, they just don't give a fuck.

read it again LMAO

it's from a Drama CD

>If Kerry wasn't chosen as a Master, then whoever won the Grail would've awakened Angry Manjew
This is false, though. There are plenty of ways it could have ended without any victor like the war before it did.

He's meant to be the epitome of what Archer talked about that one time. When you put ideals over people, you can only save ideals, not people in the end.

What's more important in the end, your ideals, or actually saving people. Because sometimes you gotta be human and compromise shit in order to actually create a new answer. MoS Shirou and Kiritsugu were only able to save their ideals, not people. Instead they only became killers who lost everything in the process.

Kiritsugu was unable to compromise anything, despite how he ironically did compromise his entire ideals at the very start of his journey to be a hero. He originally wanted to save everyone, but when it came down to it he killed his father, and in that moment chose "Kill the few, for the many". The second you make that choice of killing for your ideals, is when the ideals start breaking. You're no longer someone who can save everyone, you're only a punisher who can kill the lesser number.

>What's more important in the end, your ideals, or actually saving people. Because sometimes you gotta be human and compromise shit in order to actually create a new answer.
Oh my god someone who actually understands Heaven's Feel.

This is your MoS Shirou people, is this really what you looked up to all this time as the perfect answer? No one was saved with this, he only went on to create more death.

He's not even Japanese anymore.

>Bond 3: I have nothing anymore…… No, it is more correct to say I will soon have nothing. My former thoughts and ideals are dissolving. The only thing that will remain is the fact that I am good at killing.
>Bond 4: ……Did you have something to talk about, Master? Sorry, I’ve been having dizzy spells recently…… Even only five minutes ago feels like a distant dream.
>Ascension 1: Ah…… The feeling of this body crumbling down is good……
>Ascension 2: It is only the outward appearance that changes. Apart from that, nothing changes.
>Ascension 3: It feels like these worthless bonds of obligation are crumbling. Better yet, just like a sand castle, everything will be lost.
>Ascension 4: You did well, Master. Everything I was, is no longer. I have become genuine, a true nameless Heroic Spirit.
