Behold: arguably the greatest romance anime of all time. Not a single anime romance from the last 15 years even comes close.

>greatest romance anime of all time
What? Maison Ikkoku is full of that same shitty Rumiko-misunderstandings shit. I fucking hate that unnecessary shit in romance anime.

Holy shit stop making this fucking thread. This is at least the third one in less than 24 hours.

Naturally someone as unintelligent as yourself isn't capable of appreciating well-nuanced romance. Stick to the rubbish you watch.

I agree, user.

UH what? Because I have the ability to point out the glaring flaws with this series I'm "unintelligent"? Maybe get a little self-awareness and stop being so tribalistic about anime, user.

Kare Kano?

Is this a Shojo?

Is this a NTR?

be quiet, OP is obviously midway through his first pre-2000s romance anime, it's not like he has any actual notion of what is ''good''

That's not the Kyoukai no Kanata movie.

Not even as a joke, user.

>Kyoukai no Kanata
I think you mistyped Kara no Kyoukai.

The MC is fucking terrible

That's a funny way to spell Tamako Love Story

>UH what?
Go back to the forum you came from, idiot.

I've never left Sup Forums though?

Agreed. All romance suffer from this trope for 'tension'.

Calling stupid for realizing a shallow overused trope is just that. If you like it fine, but its not shakespeare

Kare Kano is nowhere near as good as Maison Ikkoku. The only reason most of you idiots even watch it is because Hideaki Annon directed it, and given how you mindlessly worship Evangelion, it's only natural you watch & overrate his other works.

>Calling stupid for realizing a shallow overused trope is just that
Except it isn't just shallow overuse of a trope, and that's precisely why you and him both, are retarded.

First 18 episodes of Kare Kano are ridiculously better than Maison ""misunderstandings for 90 episodes"" Ikkoku. Next thing you'll tell me you think Kimagure is a masterpiece too.

Also, you're right, Anno turned a subpar manga into gold.

>it isn't just shallow overuse of a trope
Have you even watched any anime in your life?

Gokinjo Monogatari is better. Childhood friends turn lovers without too drama.

>First 18 episodes of Kare Kano are ridiculously better than Maison ""misunderstandings for 90 episodes"" Ikkoku. Next thing you'll tell me you think Kimagure is a masterpiece too.
Spoken like a true mindless Anno-worshipping idiot. Kare Kano anime had way too much comedy in it to make the romance believable, but because you're so mindless on the director, you can only interpret that as a work of art.

Any kind of critique from someone like you will always be worthless.

>Childhood friends turn lovers without too drama.
Whoa, the pinnacle of what makes romance work! With reasoning like that, how could anyone dare argue!

Thank you for further proving the general stupidity of this board.

>Kare Kano anime had way too much comedy in it to make the romance believable,
Wow, it's almost like we didn't watch the same series at all!

Has some of the comfiest OPs and EDs ever.

youtube.com/watch?v=tkwOPVoLrnA

youtube.com/watch?v=AX6znJQYx6c

I watched it from an objective viewpoint.
You watched it from a delusional viewpoint. The only reason you watched it is because you mindlessly worship the director so much because he made Evangelion. Delusional people are not qualified to make accurate critiques.

No you obviously didn't if you couldn't see that the balance between comedy, romance and drama was executed impeccably. Also, if you had actually watched the anime, you'd know that the episodes directed by Anno are of much higher quality of those after he left.
It's quite a huge contrast.
Also, I'm not the one who's "deluded" into thinking Maison Ikkoku's endless misunderstandings actually is some high form of "nuanced art".

You're the most autistical person I've seen on Sup Forums this week. One whole week on Sup Forums and this right here is the peak autism I've witnessed, that's really saying something.

He just likes to call people names and feign superiority because he watched a single pre2000s romance anime. I'm pretty sure he's either autistic or underage, possibly both.

>person doesn't like anime made by my god
>h-he couldn't have watched it! t-there was i-i-impeccable balance between comedy, romance and drama
>i-i have no way of proving m-my case but anno made it so it must be right!
You're only further proving your own stupidity here.

>autistical
>admits to only being here a week
Trust me sunshine, you have far bigger problems than I do. If you want to fix those problems, you can start by realizing just how stupid you are for saying "autistical".

>everyone's first language is English so it's unacceptable they get a single word wrong
It's autism alright

Actually I provided a fairly detailed post summarizing exactly what you are: a mindless Anno worshipper, and you further reinforced that notion by making mindless, unsubstantiated claims about the quality of Kare Kano.
Again, idiots like you are not qualified to make assessments worth listening to. Until you can learn to understand Anno is not a flawless director, you never will be.

>is an ESL
>tries to use words he doesn't understand the meaning of, let alone the pronunciation
The absolute pinnacle of sheer idiocy.

First off, who are you quoting?
Secondly, I don't even worship Anno, in fact I don't think Kare Kano is the greatest romance anime ever made, I just think it's miles better than Maison Ikkoku, and succeeds in this is with very little episodes.
All I can see from your posting is that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
>unsubstantiated claims about the quality of Kare Kano
I literally posted two images from two scenes in the anime that demonstrate why Kare Kano's romance is """believable"""
Also when the fuck did I ever say Anno is a flawless director? You're literally making shit up to fulfill your non-existent claims.

I just checked my dictionary for the meaning of autistic just to make sure and it says it's (You)

>I literally posted two images from two scenes in the anime that demonstrate why Kare Kano's romance is """believable"""
Holy fuck, you're actually a complete idiot.
I can't believe there are actually people here stupid enough to believe literal stills prove that romance is believable. You are so impressively stupid it's funny.

>bumping your garbage thread from page 9 to get the last reply
What do you want me to do user, walk you through each Kare Kano episode step by step?
Why don't you try actually watching it yourself first?

Was Homura Akemi's illegitimate daughter?

I don't want you to do anything, I've only told you about 4 times any input you offer is worthless and not listening to. The cherry on top is you honestly believing a couple of images proves your point about ROMANCE in an ANIME being BELIEVABLE.

You are the biggest idiot on this board right now, bar none.

>capslock
The level of autism within you is reaching profound heights.
No I believe those two images are literally what you are asking for, and if you had any knowledge on Kare Kano in the first place you'd recognize this and those particular episodes immediately.
You obviously have never seen it though, and will continue to make these shitty Maison Ikkoku threads while perpetuating a dumb headcanon that it's the greatest ever.
>any input you offer is worthless and not listening to.
So then why do you keep replying to me?

Good to see you're still digging yourself deeper like the common idiot. Not my fault you literally thought image stills proved your point.

Guys, guys. Can't we all just agree that both MI and Kare Kano are incomparably better romances than SAfuckingO?

...

You really shouldn't engage someone who makes the same thread twice a day.

>getting this asspained
Evidently the truth pains you.

That's not SAO.

Timeless, timeless masterpiece.

Kimagure Orange Road is an honorable runner-up.

Bland trash
Watch a good romance anime like Kodomo no Omocha

>All romance suffer from this trope for 'tension'.
You're an idiot. Stories without tension are dull.
It just depends how it's done and what they actually do with it.

Sorry, but you're a moron.
I say that as someone who really likes both shows.

become meguca

>that pic
Did Yabuki rip off this design for Haruna?

>consuming anything without regard for its quality
well good for you but i have standards and one of them is that nothing good can come out of rumiko takahashi

>but i have standards
No, you're just stupid.

kk

It's not even the best romance anime in its time.

contract?

You're fucking kidding right?

Then you should know better than to say some stupid shit like that.

Lurking forever doesn't fucking matter much if you don't put the things you learn into practice ffs.

No ending, manga sucks.

Chill you faggots. Lets actually discuss fucking romance anime, and not devolve every thread into a fucking highschool gym bitchslap contest.

Also, I vote to put forth the notion that action/adventure anime that involves subtle but worthwhile payoffs of romance is better than just outright romance genre.

Anyone agree? Or am I just fucking pleb tier?

If someone doesn't die for the person they love, its a shit love story.

Stuff like Slayers, where the romance is subtle but constantly present - will always more exciting IMO than blatant romance shit.

There are 5 exceptions. 5 Centimeters Per Second, Spice and wolf, TGHLTT and of course, Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun and finally, Ef A Tale of Memories / Melodies.

And maybe that one anime where this one boy is dying from an STD, and he meets a girl who has some debilitating disease and they form a friendship and escape the hospital.

It's really grim and surreal, but you feel kind of melancholic while watching it.

>arguably the greatest romance anime of all time

Is there really anything to argue about?

Arakawa under the bridge is a good romance.

That, and this other one where a group meets up at this little diner, but this chick that frequents the diner is able to go on time traveling adventures and the boy that goes there tries to get her affections but she's, well, youve been warned right now, shes fuckin dead as shit

If anyone remembers that shit, let me know. It was unlike any romance anime I've ever seen, and I lost my HD 4 years ago and have been unable to find it.

Kimagure Orange Road is the only anime that I ever felt like I fell in love with as if it were a person. I would watch one episode a night and get kinda nervous or excited (even though the plots were often silly and predictable or corny) like I was seeing someone I was crushing on. Its just feelsy and nostalgic though I wasn't there. That ending theme song.....

Its also one of the few series I've seen where the guy actually picks a girl by the end.

Madoka is pretty much the proto-waifu.

MI, KOR, and Touch are the top-tier trifecta of romance anime, at least in my opinion. Maison Ikkoku has the best soundtrack.

Why are the last few episodes of Kare Kano complete shit? Probably the worst ending I've ever seen to a series.

Did Gainax run out of money again? Why would I care about that other obnoxious couple by that late point in the series.....

The real question is: which is the superior big white fluffy dog? Soichiro from MI or Punch from Touch?

>Maison Ikkoku has the best soundtrack.
And the best visual direction. MI is the most aesthetic anime there is.
Touch is still my favorite.

Touch just hits in a different way than MI. It's lower quality/budget in a lot of ways, but MI does suffer from being 90 something episodes with half of the plot points being based around stupid misunderstandings, which gets tedious.
Maison Ikkoku is still my favorite.

Whats so bad about it

Maison Ikkoku has one of the best soundtracks you will ever hear in an anime. Sets both the mood and the drama perfectly.

Fucking Youtube took down most of the OST again.

So on top of being a complete idiot, you're also clearly a crossboarder? Wonderful.

Your tastes are shit, Sup Forums, Marmalade Boy is top-tier.

...

that's a tight bod she's got

I guess you could say the dog gets NTR'd.

ore monogatari is the best one

...

what manga is this?

by MASAMUNE SHIROW, the george lucas of japan

I might have gone too far in a few places

...

Who was in the wrong here?

rly meks u thonk

I feel like the manga is way better, but I have a soft spot for the anime as well because that soundtrack is killer. I don't really watch rom-coms, but I think this is easily among Rumiko Takahashi's best works. Of course, I watched and read it when I was much younger with a longtime girlfriend and reading/watching it reminds me of those times. It's pure nostalgia for me, even if the manga has some objective merits. I still watch those lame-ass rips with the CGI mountain logo starting every episode whenever I really wanna feel comfy. Sorry for blogging.
