Post your favorite DragonBall saga. Whole franchise included.

Pic related has some of the best moments in the entire series. It will always be the peak of DragonBall for me.

This is the ideal DB saga. You may not like it, but this is what peak anime looks like.

While those are pretty great, I'm a huge fan of Frieza himself, but my favorite SAGA is probably the Twenty Second Tenkaichi Budokai

Saiyan saga because it was just before fucked up power levels became a thing, and a lot of it is rooted in nostalgia for me because I remember watching it on TV as a kid and having never seen anything like it before.

When I went back to read the manga I still think it holds up and I think Goku vs Vegeta is one of the best fights in the series.

Personally I'm a fan of Yamcha vs Tien in the 22nd

turtle hermit training and first budokai are peak comfy
Piccolo and 2nd and 3rd budokai have some of the best action in the series
Red Ribbon is pretty good
Pilaf is pretty meh compared to the others but good for establishing the cast and tone of the series

I miss regular Dragon Ball

A sense of adventure and magic, the rest of cast got to do shit how and again, finding the balls was enough of a challenge that death kind of had some weight to it and best of all Goku had a sense of decency that value his friends and human life and wasn't a complete fight obsessed retard

Yamcha vs Tien in the 22nd was probably the best fight in the whole series.

Also my favourite. Love the Saiyan arc as well though.

everything up to goku going super saiyen is god tier, its not even that the rest is bad, its just looks like garbage in comparison.

Namek arc is where the series came to its logical conclusion. It was the perfect ending to the series basically.

I have a fondness in my heart for the opening of the Buu Saga with the World Martial Arts tournament and Gohan shenanigans and I'm sad that we didn't get to see more of that.

if not for gohan, I would agree
if it ended there gohan's character arc would be nothing and there would be no point in having had so much focus on him, the logical conclusion for it then becomes the ending of cell saga which works with gohan inheriting the role of the protector of earth and goku having actually died.
and then we get buu saga which shits all over all of that

Yeah, why does Toriyama enjoy butchering his character so much?

My african-american sibling

(You)

This is the arc that got me into anime!

It was not released in the US yet, and my friend and I felt so fucking edgy scoring fansubs in 1998.

2nd Budokai.
The moment Piccolo arc starts is pretty brutal it's like it does a complete 180ยบ

The tournament arc with kid Goku vs Krillin

youtube.com/watch?v=G_HmxScD8CM

Piccolo Jr. saga for me.

I thought it was best of both world.

Honestly it's reall difficult to say. All the arcs in DB had their own charm. I like the 21st tournament arc a lot cause it had fantastic action yet it was a still a slapstick gag series with the Krillin and Bacterian fight, but Jackie Chun vs Kid Goku is one of the best fights in the series.

Respectable choice, it juggled humor, action, and world building extremely well. Lots of exotic locales, some pretty funny slapstick fights, and the cool Penguin Village Cameo.

The 23rd Budokai is pretty good but I like the low stakes of the 21st and 22nd.
I'm a big fan of the Ginyu Tokusentai and american comic books, and Gohan's whole thing was great. I was really looking forward to the tournament and what we got of it was excellent but I could do with a little less of the World Champion Mister Satan.

I agree, but at the same time I think that was an era of Dragonball that is better off left to rest. DB is easily my favorite show in the franchise, but the magic and charm of it can't really be returned to after the series already progressed to Z and Super levels of action. The progression was natural, so why force going back to the old tone? GT tried this and failed because, like I said, going from cute upbeat adventure to over the top action is much more natural than vice versa.

Maybe if we are lucky we will get a couple one-off OVAs starring kid Goku, but other than that I think it's best to just move forward

Yeah, desu, Piccolo Jr. saga would've only benefited if you took out Kami. Just have straight up a revenge story, pure and simple.

Early DB is my favorite, so everything before Goku became an adult are my favorite parts
I also like the Cell/Android saga until Cell absorbed the androids

What I'm really hoping for is Goten and Trunks adventures.
>hating Perfection
I can't find my Perfect Cell reaction images so I'll just post a Great Saiyaman

...

Say hello to the most overrated saga.

Second only to the Saiyan Saga

The Saiyan saga has the best fighting in the series, how is it overrated? This one has Goku VS Cell which redeems all of its flaws

I lost interest after Cell became the main villain, and the episodes/chapters after the Piccolo vs 17 fight were boring

>best fighting in the series
>the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd World Martial Arts Tournaments all exist

>Jackie Chun vs Kid Goku
The anime did it justice
youtube.com/watch?v=fhOqMVOXK3E

Both substitute plot progression for action. The only things that happen in the Saiyan Saga is Goku on snake way, training, and coming back to defeat Vegeta. It's not BAD, but considering it's coming right off the heels of DB, where every saga prioritized moving the plot along, it feels dull and uneventful, at least to me.

Same goes for the Cell Games Saga, which sets up a structure to the fighting, but then removes it as soon as the fighting begins. Cell constructing a tournament has a ton of potential, but then as soon as it starts it takes 2 episodes for him to imediately destroy the stage, and another 2 to decide that the tournament rules aren't even worth keeping, and the plot imediately shifts to simply "beat cell".

Neither of them are bad sagas of course, but I just can't see how someone would say either are their favorites.

You know with the Black arc they had a lot of room to do shit with it. I personally think that the arc would have been better if they had also included a Vegeta Black instead of Zamasu. You would need to minimise Trunks's role or make him go SSB as well for this to work good, but otherwise it would just be a much more entertaining arc overall. Could you imagine twice the smug? Not only that but it would fix MANY of the arcs overall flaws, hell even the fusion bit would be more entertaining. Could you imagine Vegito Rose vs Vegito Blue? Vegito Blue would be just a little bit stronger due to the rivalry boost and the fight would be epic as fuck, but Vegito Rose gets angry as slowly but surely Blue starts to overpower him, so he starts charging a new attack never seen before called the Bang Bomb Attack which is a fusion between the spirit bomb and the big bang attack, and Blue (having no time to charge one of his own) would charge a Final Kamehameha instead. Initially Rose would have the upperhand but when Trunks joins in the beam struggle Blue manages to overpower the spirit bomb and successfully kill Rose, who marvels at the power of mortals and that he was right about their threat to the gods..Wham, Trunks's universe is saved but the planet is broken, and Trunks is sad about the fact that he can't fix it until Vegito suggests to use Instant Transmission to go to Namek and use their dragonballs. Wham Trunks's planet is fixed, the people are back and he also wishes back supreme kai which brings back Beerus and Whis who then offer to train Trunks and further increase his power. Vegito leaves the future timeline, introduces himself to Zeno as the friend Goku was talking about and the arc is finished.

when is Freeza going to do something?

Maybe in 2 or 3 episodes.
If this upcoming episode is about Tien, then him and Vegeta are the only guys on the U7 roster who won't have their own episodes.

When F plays in the tournament

>Buu saga

Tori commited character assassination so hard on Gohan during that lamme ass, boring as FUCK Saiyamannu shit that his only way to move forward was to just shit on Gohan.

Either that or years of drawing and thinking manga-to-manga on a weekly release basis eventually caught up to him : In an attempt to appear unpredictable and surprise readers, he ended up commiting one of the biggest mistakes you can make as a writter.

>Great Saiyaman
>boring
Him going to school was adorable and his romance with Videl was cute.

High school parts are okay, but I could live without them. I don't give a shit about the boring ass romance with Videl though.

It's literally the only relationship Toriyama bothered to give a backstory to.

fuck you bitch, tomboys a best

Buu saga only gets bad during the Kid Buu part. Especially when Goku and Vegeta are swallowed. Fuck those episodes.

And it sucked. He was right about being shit at writing romance.

Im with other user
why would I watch db for the romance subplot

Because at least he's not cobbling shit together to make babies. He bothered to explain why they were together in the first place, which is more than Vegeta and Bulma got.

>I miss regular Dragon Ball
Same but I only ever got into the manga. Is the anime for the original Dragon Ball as good as the manga?

>He bothered to explain why they were together in the first place
Who gives a shit, really? Even in real life people fall in love for the most stupid reasons, there's no need for "explanations".

>More than Vegeta and Bulma got

I thought it was pretty obvious that Bulma is just a classic slut and Vegeta is masculine enough to impregnate anything that moves.
When trunks parents were revealed the only reaction I had was "Yea that makes sense" and I never needed any more context than that.

You're crazy, The Saiyan saga has tons of action and plot development, from Piccolo and Gohan bonding, to Piccolo dying to set up the next arc, King Kai hinting there's a stronger presence than Vegeta, and saying there's no action? The fight starting from the saibaimen to ending with Vegeta is almost continuous action with like two breaks in between. Not to mention counting "Goku on Snake Way" as something that happens when it all happens off screen.

are ganos and the random freeza soilders weaker than 21st budokai goku

A lot of people give a shit. If you hated the Gohan and Videl moments, you're on the minority.

yes

>When trunks parents were revealed the only reaction I had was "Yea that makes sense" and I never needed any more context than that.
Same. Only idiots think people need a "reason" or an "explanation" to fall for each other.

Completely forgot about the Gohan subplot. That's definitely a plus for it.

I didn't say there was no action, you misunderstood. My problem with it was that action takes massive priorety over the plot. The action is great, but i wish there was more story going on around it.

(You)

It's good. There's a good deal of filler but I feel like it adds to it, especially with Goku and Chichi at the end of it after the Piccolo stuff. If you wanna watch it but don't want the filler, a recut is available on Nyaa.

If you are into shipping garbage, then of course people who don't like it will seem like a minority to you.

Hes right you know

Here's your (you) as well.

While I may have misunderstood, I think the action and the plot are intertwined in that saga very closely, but with Dragon Ball being what it is, the plot at that point boils down to "Beat the Saiyans". but character wise there's a developments going on for most characters partaking in the action.

That being said I agree with you on the Cell Arc being very inconsistent.

Just read the DB threads. DB fans always need everything explained to them in the most obvious way possible, or else it's just "headcannon".

>Tenshinhan's insertions

wew

Talk about inconsistency...

My favourite arc is the current one, but I don't get something about it:

How can U7 be the second-weakest when it's already clearly established that they beat U6?
>Toei in charge of continuity / consistency

Well didn't they not really beat U6, but Hit took the fall when fighting monaka?

Don't reply to pasta.

He's the "weakest" in terms of QoL, not in terms of brute force.

>Toei
The manga will mention this and you know it.

>really hoping for is Goten and Trunks adventures.

And you're gonna get it.

>Episode 106: The attack failed!?!?! Son Goku retaliates!
>Episode 107: The young park rangers! Goten and Trunks' new responsibilities!
>Episode 108: An animal missing!?!? Goten's determination!
>Episode 109: To the battleground! Let's start the Tournament of Power's final!
>Episode 110: Universe 7 in danger! Dicasty gets suspended!
>Episode 111: For the Universe! The Tournament begins to get serious!
>Episode 112: Frieza's betrayal?! The return of Yamcha!

Tie between the 3 tournament arcs

>fucking Yamcha
aw hell yes

>no one says Buu Saga
I wouldn't have it as my first but it's a close behind Red Ribbon and the 3 original Tournament Sagas.

I honestly love the Buu saga. Gets way too much hate

23rd Budokai was a fitting end to a great manga with great fights.

DB fans are the dumbest people and take the franchise way too seriously considering the source material.

...

damn i forgot how fucking cool this looked, what ever happened to martial arts anime.

I think it's Homestuck tumblr fans, though they are tied with Tokyo Ghoul tumblr fans. At least Tokyo Ghoul's author took it as some sort of greater goal to single-handedly destroy tumblr each 3 months.

how could toriyama write and design something so beautiful and then end up with the shitfest that's super?

Because Toei doesn't listen to him and his successor Toyotaro is unable to make great finales for arcs.

...

My favorite is actually the Android/Cell Saga, and Buu saga after it. Don't hate on me but I got introduced to Dragon Ball with videogames, and the Cell Saga on Dragon Ball Sagas was the coolest thing for me and my brother back there with Gohan going Super Saiyan 2 and everything.

The Saiyan saga would actually be my favorite but it's retroactively hurt by how 3/4 character deaths are for people who are barely relevant after that point. Chiaotzu I accept since he was always a nothing character but Yamcha and especially Tien deserved better. Just one arc prior to this we had this great dynamic between Goku, Krillin, Yamcha, and Tien all being pals and it never really has that heart again.

Otherwise I love just how desperate and harrowing the whole saga feels. The scale of Buu is larger but nothing after this point compares to how horrifying the initial losses are for morale or the immense relief felt when Vegeta finally goes down.

Bump

I really like Super Buu.

Agreed. Cast, plot and character development are all excellent in that arc.

>that one girl in that one snowy village that we never see ever again

Piccolo, Saiyan and Namek story arcs

Why are anime/mangas drawn after a vacation the best ever

it's the mathematical average over the entire universe, U7 has plenty of weak lifeforms and only a few big names, that's what you get after blowing Namek up

>but muh suparsayings and powarlevels

Piccolo Daimao Arc is top tier. My favorite still has to be Namek. Having three different parties in a small planet trying to get the dragon balls for themselves was a very interesting setup. Those alliances and betrayals, Gohan and Krillin sneaking, Vegeta being smart and picking his enemies when they least expect it, the tension whenever Freezer showed up and some of the best fights of the series. It's just wonderful.

Either Piccolo Saga or Namek Saga. Evidently putting the Namekians in some sort of focus elevates the series.

I have a soft spot for the Great Saiyaman and Wedding Dress (yeah I know it's anime-only filler) arcs too.

>Wedding Dress (yeah I know it's anime-only filler)

What are the best anime-only arcs?

Because aside from the Z fighters and the villains they faced there's fuckall.

>best fighting in the series
The best dbz fight wasn't even in the saiyan saga, what are you talking about?

Gohan school saga is best

Webm unrelated.

some of the buu shit was pretty good.

Top 3 (in no particular order)
>Piccolo Daimao
the 'shit got real' saga
>Piccolo Junior
now that shit's real, have some payoff on absolutely everything thus far
>Saiyan
Further beyond FROM SPACE

Truly the golden era of Toriyama's creativity, he's even said himself that this was when he enjoyed drawing DB the most.

Other World Tournament was pretty cool.
